A Little Bit of Heaven:
This beautiful home was built as a retirement home for my wife and myself only 9 years ago. We absolutely love this area and the quiet it provides. Within minutes there are several restaurants, stores, and all the necessities of life. My wife and I love to go out for daily drives in the summer because there is always a beautiful view around every corner. The small towns of Deer Isle and Stonington are true Maine towns. The lobster fishermen and the other local residents are real people without airs. If you want a real Maine experience, this is the place!!
The right of way to the water allows you private access to the shore where you can beachcomb or collect a dinner of blue mussels.
There is a public sand beach only minutes away where you can stake a private spot to watch the sunset or swim in the refreshing waters.
There are seven to ten walking trails on the islands which offer new and exciting views.
Local Wildlife:
You may just want to sit in the living room watching the deer graze in the yard, or the goldfinches at the feeder. Or, you may walk down the right of way to the beach and watch the Eagles soar over the water or the osprey as they build and tend their nest at the top of the Sedgwick/Deer Isle Bridge.
A day out:
Deer Isle and Little Deer Isle are home to many artists. This includes potters, painters, metal workers, glass workers, jewelers, rug makers, etc. Many homes are also galleries of the fine work these artists complete and offer for sale. You would find it hard to see all there is in only one week.
Rt. 15 is the primary road around the islands and it, along with its many sideroads provide day after day of sightseeing and pleasure. It is about 13 miles as the crow flies from the bridge to the other end (Stonington) and there is a view at every turn.
There are about 5 restaurants on the islands, each offering their own unique atmosphere and menu. There are 2 grocery stores and several small shops.
Blue Hill is only a 15 minute drive away and offers its own flavor of Maine.
