Brewster House Rental Photos and Description

Authentic Cape Cod Saltbox with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and detached cottage for 2

The Elisha Howland Saltbox provides your opportunity to experience the unmatched essence of a true 'Olde Cape Cod' home. We offer a restored antique Saltbox with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and room for two more guests in the detached cottage, which is a separate rental. (see below)

Our 1824 home is located in one of the most historic areas of Brewster. Small on size but big on charm, you will see many of the original features, such as the 'ladder' stairs, the old floorboards, the wavy glass windows carefully preserved, and a working replica of the original fireplace. Lovingly brought back to life, this restored antique home truly is a home away from home, complemented with all the modern comforts - fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, basement washer and dryer, cable TV, DVD player, and wifi. We are open year round and welcome you for a visit, whether it's for a weekend, a week, a month or more. We welcome weekend guests during the winter, spring, and fall, and occasionally can accommodate stays of less than one week during the summer.

Located in a quiet residential area of the Sea Captain's town of Brewster, our home has a spacious yard featuring two flower gardens and a shade garden with a stone patio and sitting area. Adjacent to the patio is a water feature with a gurgling stream, making a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a cup of morning coffee or perhaps a glass of wine at the end of the day.

The detached cottage is a separate rental, which may be rented for additional charge by the week or for a shorter period, with a two night minimum stay. We are delighted to offer this space to our guests who rent the main house, to be used by families who would like to bring a grandparent or two, or by couples who enjoy vacationing together, but also want to respect each other's space. The cottage offers a queen bed, small sitting area with microwave, dorm-style refrigerator, TV, and a full bathroom with shower. There is a screened porch with a patio table for two. The weekly cottage rate is half the rate for the main house. Please note that the cottage is not available as a separate and primary rental.

About Jane

Jane is a Brewster native, whose family heritage dates back to the earliest Pilgrim days. Her ancestors were among the first Pilgrims to settle in Brewster. She knows the Cape and New England well, and is always delighted to help with your trip planning.

Jane purchased this house in 2002

Why Jane chose Brewster

We were thrilled when we were offered this property by the previous owner's family. It was their family's treasured Cape Escape for the past 50 or so years. Originally, the home was owned by the same family from the time it was built to approximately the 1930s.

What makes this house unique

Our home provides a rare glimpse into a simpler life in Brewster almost 200 years ago - but without the hardships that were endured in the olden days.

Comfortable and cozy property for a winter stay

  • 5 of 5

I have spent many summers in New England and I wanted to see it during winter time and I rented this property for a month.

The excellent reviews written before were right in everything they said and I agree that the house is in fact much better than what the photos show. It´s in perfect shape, is comfortable and overall cozy.

Just a few things to add that might be helpful:

The house is located at two hours from Boston Logan airport, there are excellent services available in the area; supermarkets, pharmacies, SPAs, medical services, restaurants, shopping malls, etc.

Cape Cod has many sightseeing places to visit and in average most of them are at no more than half an hour driving from the SaltBox.

The small forest around the house is a beauty and very silent at night for people that has a light sleep.

The house has a reliable broadband internet service, a land line phone and Cable TV with hundreds of channels available. It´s fairly equipped and has a space full basement with a wash machine and dryer.

During my stay in Cape Cod there were many snow storms and the weather was cold which was not a problem due the excellent heating system that the house has.

The local snow removal service worked fast and efficiently regardless the all time record snowfalls. No matter how big the storm was, every morning I found the entrance of the house, parkway and roads clean of snow.

Jane, the owner of this property, is a welcoming host, truthfully cares about her tenants and has a great sense of humor.

I love New England and Cape Cod is in winter as beautiful as is in summer. I´ll always remember its beautiful snowy landscapes and my stay at the Elisha Howland Saltbox.

Owner's Response: It was a delight and privilege to host our guest from the Virgin Islands.... through two blizzards, extreme cold, and record snow falls. And we used to say that it rarely snows on Cape Cod!

Old Time charm with all modern convenience

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here with my girl friend for two weeks this Fall. It is a delightful cottage for two.

There is a full modern kitchen and heating/ventilation system. The fully functional fire place in the living room is a bonus. This was our first time in Cape Cod and if we were to come back would be sure to stay here. There were supplies of coffee, tea and all household liquids.

Charming inside and out!

  • 5 of 5

Rented both the house and cottage of our annual visit to the Cape. We were beyond impressed with the cleanliness and charm of both. It was perfect for both my family and my in-laws who enjoyed to privacy of the cottage. The home had everything we needed for a great week and a great vacation. The quaintness of the house allowed us to spend a lot of quality time together. The kids also loved to "ship's" stairs up to the 2nd floor bedrooms and bath. The house was close enough to everything in Brewster while still being just far away enough to enjoy some peace and quite. Jane was a pleasure to deal with and we hope to stay again next year.

Vintage Beauty in the Cape...

  • 5 of 5

This beautifully renovated saltbox is both cozy and perfectly located for a vacation on Cape Cod! We had all the comforts of home, in addition, to the charm of yesteryear. Our family had a wonderful time and plan to return next year, but to stay longer. Jane was very helpful with giving us information on all the areas we wanted to visit during our stay. The property is a beauty within itself! The home and landscaping are meticulously cared for and it shows as soon as you pull into the crushed seashell driveway. We highly recommend this rental home for your vacation accommodations on the cape!

Thanks Jane!

Charming Cape Cod Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed from April 23, till April 28 2012

This was our first visit to Cape Cod and the Charming Cottage made our stay all the more pleasant. The cottage was very clean and Jane was very helpful in providing information about the area. Again, we would like to say, how nice the cottage was and everything you need was provided. Should we return to Cape Cod, we would definitely stay here. If you are looking for a quaint, cottage in the heart of Cape Cod, this is it. We drove around site seeing and the location was great, close to several good dining options and in the middle of the Cape so you can drive anywhere in a few hours to see all there is to see. Even saw some whales from shore. Neighborhood was very pretty and quiet. Again, we would like to thank Jane for keeping such a spectacular and immaculate cottage with such great hospitality, and giving us the opportunity to stay there.

our favorite little house!

  • 5 of 5

This little house was perfect for our spring getaway. The pictures don't even do it justice. The house was immaculately clean and nicely decorated. Bed was comfy. Our favorite part was the fireplace. The restoration of the house has clearly been a labor of love, and it shows in how much the place is cared for. The neighborhood was quiet, yet centrally located. Jane was a wonderful host. The best rates we could find - very reasonable, and doesn't pile on the fees like other places we looked at. It's not a matter of if, but when we'll be back! Ten stars! ~Carla and Jeff, New York, NY
