ANTIQUE CAPE CODDER'S HOME - AUGUST 30 TO SEPTEMBER 6 AVAILABLE!

Brewster House Rental Photos and Description

Authentic Cape Cod Saltbox with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and detached cottage for 2

The Elisha Howland Saltbox provides your opportunity to experience the unmatched essence of a true 'Olde Cape Cod' home. We offer a restored antique Saltbox with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and room for two more guests in the detached cottage.

Our 1824 home is located in one of the most historic areas of Brewster. Small on size but big on charm, you will see many of the original features, such as the 'ladder' stairs, the old floorboards, the wavy glass windows carefully preserved, and a working replica of the original fireplace. Lovingly brought back to life, this restored antique home truly is a home away from home, complemented with all the modern comforts - fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, basement washer and dryer, cable TV, DVD player, and wifi. We are open year round and welcome you for a visit, whether it's for a weekend, a week, a month or more. We welcome weekend guests during the winter, spring, and fall, and occasionally can accommodate stays of less than one week during the summer.

Located in a quiet residential area of the Sea Captain's town of Brewster, our home has a spacious yard featuring two flower gardens and a shade garden with a stone patio and sitting area. Adjacent to the patio is a water feature with a gurgling stream, making a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a cup of morning coffee or perhaps a glass of wine at the end of the day.

The detached cottage is a separate rental, which may be rented by the week or for a shorter period, with a two night minimum stay. We are delighted to offer this space to our guests who rent the main house, to be used by families who would like to bring a grandparent or two, or by couples who enjoy vacationing together, but also want to respect each other's space. The cottage offers a queen bed, small sitting area with microwave, dorm-style refrigerator, TV, and a full bathroom with shower. There is a screened porch with a patio table for two. The cottage rate is half the rate for the main house. Please note that the cottage is not available as a separate rental.

Jane is a Brewster native, whose family heritage dates back to the earliest Pilgrim days. Her ancestors were among the first Pilgrims to settle in Brewster. She knows the Cape and New England well, and is always delighted to help with your trip planning.

Jane purchased this house in 2002

We were thrilled when we were offered this property by the previous owner's family. It was their family's treasured Cape Escape for the past 50 or so years. Originally, the home was owned by the same family from the time it was built to approximately the 1930s.

Our home provides a rare glimpse into a simpler life in Brewster almost 200 years ago - but without the hardships that were endured in the olden days.

Charming inside and out!

  • 5 of 5
Rented both the house and cottage of our annual visit to the Cape. We were beyond impressed with the cleanliness and charm of both. It was perfect for both my family and my in-laws who enjoyed to privacy of the cottage. The home had everything we needed for a great week and a great vacation. The quaintness of the house allowed us to spend a lot of quality time together. The kids also loved to "ship's" stairs up to the 2nd floor bedrooms and bath. The house was close enough to everything in Brewster while still being just far away enough to enjoy some peace and quite. Jane was a pleasure to deal with and we hope to stay again next year.

Vintage Beauty in the Cape...

  • 5 of 5
This beautifully renovated saltbox is both cozy and perfectly located for a vacation on Cape Cod! We had all the comforts of home, in addition, to the charm of yesteryear. Our family had a wonderful time and plan to return next year, but to stay longer. Jane was very helpful with giving us information on all the areas we wanted to visit during our stay. The property is a beauty within itself! The home and landscaping are meticulously cared for and it shows as soon as you pull into the crushed seashell driveway. We highly recommend this rental home for your vacation accommodations on the cape!

Thanks Jane!

Charming Cape Cod Cottage

  • 5 of 5
We stayed from April 23, till April 28 2012
This was our first visit to Cape Cod and the Charming Cottage made our stay all the more pleasant. The cottage was very clean and Jane was very helpful in providing information about the area. Again, we would like to say, how nice the cottage was and everything you need was provided. Should we return to Cape Cod, we would definitely stay here. If you are looking for a quaint, cottage in the heart of Cape Cod, this is it. We drove around site seeing and the location was great, close to several good dining options and in the middle of the Cape so you can drive anywhere in a few hours to see all there is to see. Even saw some whales from shore. Neighborhood was very pretty and quiet. Again, we would like to thank Jane for keeping such a spectacular and immaculate cottage with such great hospitality, and giving us the opportunity to stay there.

our favorite little house!

  • 5 of 5
This little house was perfect for our spring getaway. The pictures don't even do it justice. The house was immaculately clean and nicely decorated. Bed was comfy. Our favorite part was the fireplace. The restoration of the house has clearly been a labor of love, and it shows in how much the place is cared for. The neighborhood was quiet, yet centrally located. Jane was a wonderful host. The best rates we could find - very reasonable, and doesn't pile on the fees like other places we looked at. It's not a matter of if, but when we'll be back! Ten stars! ~Carla and Jeff, New York, NY

The Quintessential Cape Cod Cottage

  • 5 of 5
I fell in love with this charming house before I even got out of the car. I loved the oyster shell driveway, the beautiful and well-kept gardens, the private yard with two seating areas, the window boxes, the stone wall...
The home was a bit larger than I thought it would be. I looked at the bedrooms before my daughter got there, to decide which was my favorite. I chose the bedroom up the ladder stairs. The two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs felt like a cozy retreat, and very private. The stairs were a little hard to maneuver the first day, but I caught on. You have to go up and down sideways. The rope "banister" became on of my favorite features. The house was neat and clean. I live in a historic house, so I immediately felt at home with the wide board floors, wrought iron latches, and many other authentic details. This house has character with a capital C! By the second day, I had such a sense of peace that I made a reservation for a fall weekend. Jane is a wonderful hostess, and very prompt with her correspondence. I can't wait to go back!

The PERFECT weekend getaway !!!!

  • 5 of 5
These photos on this website does not even begin to really show how quaint this adorable cape cottage really is. Not only is the home fully equipped with all the modern essentials it is so close to downtown and beautiful beaches. Breakwater beach at low tide was an adventure of small pools of hermit crabs and coral rocks. The owner of the home Jane stopped by during a morning run and was very friendly. The restoration of the home was truly amazing and really helped us appreciate our stay. We enjoyed walking through the yard and Jane's lovely gardens. Our family really loved it and look forward to returning next year.
