Overview

Nobleboro Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 full bath, dock, sleeps 4+

Little Thumb sits on the water's edge on Damariscotta Lake, under pine and oak trees. It is surrounded by water on three sides and looks south down the long part of the lake. The cove to East is a favorite feeding place for heron and bald eagles. Dangle your feet off the private dock, and watch ducks paddle by. Let the loons lull you to sleep.

We offer weekly rentals during the summer until mid-September. We also offer monthly and extended seasonal stays. This is a seasonal cabin and is not available during the winter months.

The kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms have been totally remodeled. The kitchen has a gas stove, microwave, and center island. The bathroom has a washer and dryer. The living room has a gas fireplace and full views of the lake. There are two bedrooms with blankets, pillows, and quilts provided. Sheets and towels are not included.

The cabin sits on an island which is now attached to the East side of Damariscotta Lake by a causeway. A wetland has grown up beside it. There are only about 10 houses and it feels very private.

Walk or bike along the dirt roads. Kayak or canoe off the dock. Fish in the cove. Or just relax and enjoy the views.

Swimming: We usually can swim right off our dock. But the water off the dock is often too shallow for diving. It is deeper by the swim float. You can swim to the float or paddle there from the dock.

We keep two kayaks at the cottage, two paddles, and two life vest. You may bring your own if you are smaller or larger then average. Please let the life vests drip outside before bringing inside.

If you wish to rent additional kayaks or a canoe I will be happy to give you information about some places that rent and deliver.

There is a sand beach at Damariscotta Lake State Park, 10 minutes from the cottage.

There is a sand beach and ocean swimming at Pemaquid Beach in New Harbor, about a 1/2 hr from the cottage.

Please bring your own bottled water: The cottage uses the lake water. It is fine for washing up, showers, etc. Please use bottled water for drinking and cooking. Poland Spring has convenient 2.5 gallon jugs with spigots that can fit in the refrigerator.

Sheet sizes: We have one queen sized bed and a pair of twins.

About Natalie Norris

I'm a mother of three, two boys and a girl. We've lived in Maine since 1998. My husband I grew up and went to school in New York state and Massachusetts, in reverse order! After a short stint near the Berkshires we moved to Maine. We love to hike and kayak and explore.

Why Natalie Norris chose Nobleboro

Well, my kids wanted to be on fresh water, so I started looking at the local lakes. When I first visited this cabin it was less than basic with extension cords for wiring and a handyman web of plumbing. My realtor was very negative. But when we stepped out toward the lake I knew we had a rare gem. Almost no other house on the lake could claim to have a southerly view, and here it was!

I'm not afraid of a project and couldn't wait to start. First thing was to get the building level. It had been supported by tree stumps, many of which had rotted away and the floors were as level as six kids hiding under a sheet. After that we squared off the rooms and expanded the kitchen and bathroom. The rest of the renovation was just cosmetic and finding fun things at garage sales and rummage stores.

We enjoy watching and listening to the animals on the lake. We often see osprey, bald eagles, deer, beaver, loons, mallards, fox, turtles, bass, barred owls, red tailed hawks, etc.

And the best thing is that it is so private we feel more isolated than we really are. And we are only a few minutes from a town in either direction.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautiful views. Fishing. Kayaking. Islands. Inlets. Afternoon breezes off the lake.

Hi Natalie,

Here is a list of all the critters I saw over the span of our stay. All were observed in very close proximity to the cottage. You have a wildlife oasis there and many of these species have made it their permanent year round home. We cant wait to go back and for longer than a week because it went so fast.

Nobleboro Damariscotta Lake

Classic Maine Cottage

  • of 5
The location of this cottage is stunning. Damariscotta lake is one of the prettiest in Maine (I know, I live in Maine). This cottage makes this wonderful lake even better. Private location, well furnished, clean, tastefully renovated plus amazing views from inside and outside! Perfect.

perfect again

  • 5 of 5
This was our second time at this lovely cottage and we plan to spend two weeks next year. Such a charming lovely house. Has everything needed for a great vacation! The lilies make swimming from the dock a challenge but taking boats and the kayaks out to other spots just encourages exploring other parts of the lake. Great fishing area, we literally caught fish from the dock! Plenty of wildlife to observe, stunning sunrises, awesome outdoor fire pit to grill open fire steaks, picnic tables, right on the water...we are in love with this place!

By far the best trip my boyfriend and I ever went on. Once we arrived, we were in heaven! From the house and the spot it is located on, perfect.Took a long kayak adventure! My boyfriend caught a few big bass, right on the side of the house! We miss it there! Everyone is so nice up there, always make you feel welcomed! We got to meet Natalie, the owner and she is the sweetest lady! Again, best vacation ever and only thing that really truly stunk .... was leaving :(

Natalie, thank you so much for making our trip a comfortable stay and allowing us to enjoy our amazing kayak adventures!

Little Thumb

  • 5 of 5
Little Thumb was the perfect cottage for our Lake Damariscotta vacation. The house is located on a private cove that we thoroughly enjoyed in the kayaks that are at the house, and the dock was glorious to relax on. We hope to return next year!

Tastefully Renovated Cabin on the Lake

  • 4 of 5
The cabin was clean, tastefully decorated, and carefully designed to take full advantage its location on the lake. The kitchen was fully equipped and immaculate. Two kayaks made exploring the surrounding lake, abundant with wildlife, easy and peaceful. The surrounding dirt roads were perfect for morning walks and bike rides. The local area provided everything we love about Maine: ocean walks, beaches, hiking, good food, great book store, art, and friendly people.
Our only disappointment was our inability to swim from the dock and float. We had to take our boat out into deeper water to swim during our mid-August stay.

Notes:
This is one of the original cabins on what was formerly an island on Damariscotta Lake. The cottage 'Little Thumb' was gutted and now boasts a new kitchen, bath, gas fireplace, and expanded bedrooms. Little Thumb juts out from the main part of the island so that the lake wraps around it. It feels private and the views to the south are gorgeous! To the East you will see eagles and heron fishing on the opposite shore. There are plenty of ducks and wild birds to complete this scene of tranquility. Damariscotta lake is excellent for canoe and kayak exploration. 'Little Thumb' has two kayaks and paddles. You can also enjoy fishing and other water sports. Please wear a Personal Flotation Device/ life vest. Parents need to bring an approved PFD for each child. Because the cottage uses lake water - please bring your own bottled water for drinking and cooking. The water is fine for washing of dishes, showers, and laundry. You will need to bring your own sheets and tow
