Outstanding rental, highly recommended

We had a very enjoyable stay at the “Lighthouse” in Ocean Beach. The owner, Paul, and his property manager Joanne, were both warm and professional in all our interactions. Paul was in touch with us even before our flight landed to arrange to meet us at the house and show us around. His attention to detail was much appreciated: he provided a quick reference sheet with all the relevant household and contact information and a neatly organized binder full of local brochures and guides. Upon check-out we were met at the house by Joanne, who ensured everything went smoothly with our stay.
Looking around the house, my first impression was, “wow.” This is the kind of place I’d like to live in! It is a beautifully-designed modern house with stunning views and is outfitted with quality furnishings, art, appliances and electronics. It is a clean and inviting space that required only our groceries to feel like home. The quiet residential atmosphere overlooking OB and Mission Bay is very pleasant.
The house sits on a rise just a few blocks from the shops on the main street of Ocean Beach, the pier and beach itself. It’s a short walk of four blocks down the hill to the funky neighbourhood cafes and shops, or to the beach. However, a car is necessary to see the rest of San Diego since transit from OB is not very convenient. OB is a short drive from everywhere we wanted to go: Mission Beach, SeaWorld, La Jolla, Old Town, downtown/gaslamp quarter, shopping malls, and airport. Point Loma offers some more nearby dining options, and the owners are very helpful in suggesting places that we liked.
Seeing the sights is nice, but it’s a treat to come home to this house (or stay and relax all day in it). We enjoyed the outdoor hot tub, gourmet kitchen, and the breathtaking views and fresh sea breeze from nearly every room. And it’s great to have many different spaces, indoors and out, if some want to read or nap while others are talking or cooking. We grilled on the gas BBQ on the deck, enjoyed the great selection of music on the whole-house Sonos music system and relaxed on the comfy sofa inside while watching the nightly fireworks in Mission Bay.
In summary, we found this house to be a great base for exploring San Diego. There’s a funky neighbourhood in walking distance, and everything else is within easy driving distance… but the house is so pleasant and well-appointed, you may not even want to leave!
