!!!!!!! ATTENTION, PLEASE NOTE !!!!!!! For some reason, the 3 main mapping sites (google, yahoo, mapquest) and all gps units i am aware of, show the INCORRECT location for my property. My property is on the southeast portion of the main part of Long Lake. If you contact me, I can guide you to bringing up a satellite photo of the location. We will email detailed directions to guests and we suggest you rely on our directions rather than mapping sites or gps devices. UPDATE--currently, mapquest IS correct within a few hundred yards.

Thank you for a wonderful experience at your lake home. This house was spotless and the lake is clean and clear. We had excellent fishing, catching a wide variety of fish. The pontoon rental made exploring the lake a breeze, but the lake is small enough that you could easily get around with the kayaks and row boat too! The home is well appointed with anything you need to cook up a meal, play a game, or relax at the fire pit. The overall set up here is awesome! The owners were extremely helpful and communication was excellent. We definitely recommend this property highly! Thank you again for sharing your wonderful vacation home.
The house is awesome! Great location and views. The fall colors were beautiful and made for excellent photographs. This place is exceptional for families with plenty of room for everyone and loads of privacy. Activities abound for all, fishing, swimming, hiking, relaxing by the fire pit, star gazing, horeshoes, ping-pong etc.both indoors and out. Very clean and very well appointed. Thanks Mike and Mary, we'll be back!
Four of us guys rented this gorgeous home while doing a few days of deer hunting, since we decided not to rough it this season. Mike bent over backwards accommodating us on short notice and really went the extra mile in his dealings with us and with great communication. Upon arrival, we found everything was better than advertised. The weather was mild enough for us to do a little kayaking, which we thoroughly enjoyed on this absolutely clear and pristine lake. Two of us decided to book this for future family summer vacations and we can't wait.
We have stayed at several homes from homeaway.com. over the years, as well as several from other vacation home sites. This one hands down tops them all. The communication with the owners is the best I have ever experienced, and it is obvious they aim to please. This home is beautiful, very well equipped, laid out perfectly for us, and in a very private, spectacularly beautiful setting. We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful paddling on the supplied kayaks, the lakeside campfires and horseshoe games, and the fishing and quiet sunset cruises on the very nice pontoon boat we opted to rent. During the one rainy day, we enjoyed the ping pong table and a great trip to the free shipwreck museum.
This was also our first time on Long Lake. What a jewel! It is the clearest and most peaceful all sports lake we have ever encountered. We were impressed that it still has long stretches of wooded shoreline. Watching and listening to the loons was one of our favorite things, along with kayaking to the island, through the canal to the south section of the lake, or to the north cove.
Our search for the ideal, annual vacation spot has ended here, as we look forward to many future stays!!
A great experience and superb communication from the owners regarding the rental process from start to finish. The property has wonderful amenities and was very comfortable for our family of four that includes two young boys. Very safe for the kids and plenty to keep them busy. Most days were spent just splashing on the beach, floating in the kayaks and doing some fishing - which was excellent as well.
We would highly recommend the property to anyone including families with children and have already booked for the 2015 season.
Thanks again Mike and Mary!
We have rented many lake homes in both Indiana and Michigan and all four of us felt that yours by far was the best experience we have had. The comfort of the furnishings, especially in the living room, made the few rainy days quite relaxing. We loved how your home is situated with the mature trees giving it the feel of being secluded from the neighbors.
We also enjoyed using the fire pit most evenings, thanks to your ample supply of good firewood and kindling. It was especially nice that the lake is relatively quiet with few water-skiers and jetskiis which we have found annoying at some of the other rentals we had in the past.
We loved hearing the loon calls and actually seeing them frequently since normally we have found them to be a little reclusive. The woodpeckers, hummingbirds and unusual black squirrels kept us entertained constantly and placement of the windows in the house made it easy to enjoy the nature from any room.
The town of Hillman welcomes visitors with the coziness, quaintness, and spectacular natural beauty that typifies Northern Michigan. It is home to several of the most beautiful, pristine inland lakes in Michigan, Long Lake being the foremost. This small town also boasts a fantastic golf resort, whose property is home to a huge trophy bull elk herd. It is a short drive to Ocqueoc Falls, the only waterfalls in the Lower Peninsula, and other natural sites. Outdoorsman paradise! Snowmobile, ATV, hunt, boat, fish, kayak. 25 minutes to the historic Lake Huron Great Lakes harbor town of Alpena, home to the annual summer Brown Trout Festival, the new interactive National Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, and a marina with numerous Great Lakes charter boats for a day of trophy brown trout, salmon, or walleye fishing. Alpena is on Lake Huron's Thunder Bay, home to the biggest concentration of freshwater shipwrecks in the world, making it an acclaimed scuba diving mecca.
Other Activities: ice fishing, great lakes fishing & diving charters, horse drawn elk viewing and gourmet dinner sleigh rides, snowmobiling.
Golf: 5 minutes to the Thunder Bay Golf Resort and free elk herd viewing.
