Master suite with private entry and porch. Upper & lower large waterfront decks, 2.5 car attached garage. One acre treed, secluded lot. 140' of private, gradually sloping, clean white bottom water frontage. Lakefront firepit & horseshoe pit. 5 mins. to the Thunder Bay Golf Resort and horse drawn elk viewing sleigh rides. Also, FREE elk herd viewing!! Long Lake is a pristine, clear, 300 acre natural spring fed lake which is home to loons, small & large mouth bass, walleye, perch, blue gill and trout, . Uncrowded, with long stretches of undeveloped shoreline, yet is an all sports lake with boat launch. Close to the historic Lake Huron harbor town of Alpena. Close to renowned fishing at Fletcher's Floodwaters, Hubbard Lake, and others. Close to Ocqueoc Falls and other sights.

My property is on the southeast portion of the main part of Long Lake. If you contact me, I can guide you to bringing up a satellite photo of the location. We will email detailed directions to guests and we suggest you rely on our directions rather than mapping sites or gps devices. UPDATE--currently, mapquest IS correct within a few hundred yards.

The town of Hillman welcomes visitors with the coziness, quaintness, and spectacular natural beauty that typifies Northern Michigan. It is home to several of the most beautiful, pristine inland lakes in Michigan, Long Lake being the foremost. This small town also boasts a fantastic golf resort, whose property is home to a huge trophy bull elk herd. It is a short drive to Ocqueoc Falls, the only waterfalls in the Lower Peninsula, and other natural sites. Outdoorsman paradise! Snowmobile, ATV, hunt, boat, fish, kayak. 25 minutes to the historic Lake Huron Great Lakes harbor town of Alpena, home to the annual summer Brown Trout Festival, the new interactive National Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, and a marina with numerous Great Lakes charter boats for a day of trophy brown trout, salmon, or walleye fishing. Alpena is on Lake Huron's Thunder Bay, home to the biggest concentration of freshwater shipwrecks in the world, making it an acclaimed scuba diving mecca.

  • RESERVATIONS 12 WEEKS OR MORE IN ADVANCE:
    25% of rate as NON-REFUNDABLE CONFIRMATION DEPOSIT due 3 business days after tentative hold to convert to confirmed reservation. 75% balance, tax, cleaning fee, and REFUNDABLE $400 SECURITY DEPOSIT due 10 weeks prior to arrival. Refund of all advance money EXCEPT the 25% CONFIRMATION DEPOSIT given for cancellation up to 8 weeks prior to arrival. For cancellation after the 8 week deadline, an additional 5% of base rate is kept for each day after the deadline, up to 65% of base rate. Security deposit is fully refunded for any and all cancellations. Completed rentals receive back $400 SECURITY deposit within 10 days, subject to damages or excessive cleaning.
    RESERVATIONS 10 WEEKS OR LESS IN ADVANCE: All money due within 3 business days of a verbal hold.
    CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT TIMES:
    WEEKLY--Saturday is the changeover day barring other arrangement--5pm check in, 11 am check out.
    WEEKENDS--Friday--5pm check in, Sunday--3pm check out.
  • Prior to beginning of stay, names of all overnight guests and description of all expected motor vehicles and watercraft must be supplied in writing by email or letter. In the week prior to beginning of stay, guests will be provided with directions, and any other information pertinent to their stay (access to keys, etc.)

Beautiful house on a beautiful lake! We spent a relaxing week on Long Lake. It was our first trip to Michigan and we truly enjoyed ourselves. The house was accurately depicted in the photos. The home was immaculately clean, the kitchen well equipped and very comfortable throughout . It was evident the owners intent was to make guests feel at home. The owners were very informative of the area. We would not hesitate to recommend this home. We would also suggest the pontoon to enjoy the lake at it fullest

Relax and Unwind

Words are hard to express the experience we had up at this Hillman Retreat. The owners were friendly and provided us with all the gadgets of the home as well as the fun outside. We used the rowboat and our fishing boat everyday sometimes 3times a day with 6 adults all loving to fish. The kayaks were handy if someone didn't want to fish and the lake was clean and beautiful with a nice breeze coming off the lake. We wound down in the living room with the great view in the evening or early morning. Played cards around the dining table and enjoyed the two decks and docks for sunbathing. We played yard games and enjoyed the firepit at night. We even brought our bikes to enjoy. I have already recommended this place to alot of my friends at work . We will definitely be back!

Has been awhile, but always have fond memories!

We cannot begin to express not only how much we enjoyed every aspect of this home, but the wonderful hospitaility bestowed upon us by the owners by changing their own schedule and allowing us to stay in their beautiful home. This trip was very important based on the need to visit with family in the area and everything from being able to prepare home cooked family meals (in a wonderful kitchen) along with the time we spent enjoying all the amenities of nature right outside (which actually felt like inside with the wonderful windows throughout the home,) allowed us to share time with our family in a peaceful and lovely setting.

The house has a fabulous floor plan, everything you need to enjoy the outdoors, again, a fabulous kitchen - - BUT it mostly has a place in our hearts for the time we shared together and the wonderful memories created along with receiving the kind generosity of the owners to share their home with our family. It will always be the place we will return to, as we truly felt at home! Thank you!

Relaxing Family Vacation

We loved this place! Our family of five plus our niece (kids ages b/w 7 to 16) thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful, comfortable, well equipped house, clean lake, and some other surprises perfect for the kids. The lake was awesome to kayak on especially for beginners. Here's a tip - do not kayak through the tall reeds of grass in the water because there are lots of spiders in there! Almost every night we had a campfire, tons of smores, and the kids caught frogs.The millions of stars at night were just awesome. We didn't see an eagle on our trip but lots of other wildlife and birds right outside the house. The loons were really cool and eerie to hear at night. We made several day trips to different beaches on Lake Huron which was beautiful and clean. Take water shoes because the composition of the beaches is unpredictable. Most have a combination of rocks and sand. Our favorite beach was at Hoeft state park which has sand dunes, miles of beach walking, and a beautiful pavilion/picnic area with clean bathrooms. It felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. We really enjoyed northern MI and this beach house will definitely stay on our list of favorites. The owners are wonderful and very helpful. The house, lake, and surroundings were very peaceful and relaxing. The house and kitchen were well equipped but you might need to take an iron if you need to press any clothes because we couldn't find one in the house. There is a nice ice cream shop in Hillman that we all enjoyed too! Great place!!

Perfect End to Summer 2011

Our family enjoyed a very relaxing end of summer 2011 week at this property. We were thrilled with all of the amenities that were offered. It made it very easy to relax and have fun with our family. The home and property is very well maintained. The view of the lake was incredible. It was much better than the pictures could have ever displayed. We did not have to worry about bringing extra supplies such as linens, pillows, kitchen utensils/cookware or other common household items. It was available for us to use and in good condition. We also enjoyed using the kayaks and other water toys. Our 7 year old kayaked for the first time and had a blast. Of course everyone loved to fish off of the dock. Our children enjoyed bonus time with their Papa, Uncle, and Daddy learning how to cast and reel in the “Big One”. We actually took very few side trips because we truly enjoyed being at the home. There was a binder filled with brochures, etc. about different local excursions that was very useful. We did take the time to go to Ocqueoc Falls. It was about an hour drive from the property. It’s a short walk down a trail to the falls and you are able to play in the falls. Our family enjoyed that adventure.

The homeowners were very hospitable. There was clear and timely communication so you felt secure in your vacation investment. They were accommodating to us as well, which was very much appreciated. We would love to rent this property again in the future because of the condition of the home, the abundant amenities, and how easy it was to work with the property owners. Thank you!
