However, Ashtabula County is a haven for travelers looking for an affordable family vacation site. While relaxing at our home you must discover the harbor district of Ashtabula with quaint shops, Maritime and Underground Railroad Museums, and views of the Ashtabula Harbor Light. Also nearby Geneva-on-the-Lake, features summer-time fun at this historic resort district, featuring amusement park rides, miniature golf, go-karts, waterslides, nostalgic dinners, and more. Inland discover the 16 covered bridges, both historic and new. Ashtabula County also produces over 65 percent of Ohio's grapes and has developed a hard-earned reputation for developing some outstanding domestic wines; sample them at our 18 wineries. And Cleveland is just an hour drive to enjoy museums, baseball, and more great sights.

As partners, the Pearson's and the Trice's decided to purchase this property not to offer as a vacation rental property, but to someday build family homes on beautiful Lake Erie. In planning for some summer family lodging, we decided to offer up the property for others to enjoy the soft summer breezes and spectacular sunsets which occur all summer long.
This property is unique because it has been created to host our family during the summer, however we offer it to you and your family for you to also enjoy. This means that the decor and accommodations are prepared as our home not just any summer rental. You will enjoy all the amenities of home while at this summer retreat. Plenty of yard to play all the summer fun games and a beach with swimming that will thrill the child in everyone!
A last minute rental, the owners were very accommodating and easy to work with. The residence was perfect. Very clean, spacious and well appointed. Thank you!!
We arrived at Lakehurst Bungalow on Friday, July 26, 2013. We were three families (5 adults and 2 children) traveling together from Las Vegas, Nevada for a family reunion in Ashtabula/Geneva-on-the-Lake. The layout in the home was perfect for our needs. There is a downstairs bedroom with 2 twin beds that was perfect for my parents so they didn’t have to go up and down the stairs. We loved the extra-large family room (which is a converted garage). The family room/garage doors open to provide a large screened in area, which was wonderful as the weather was perfect! The living room and family room also have sofa beds which were great for our cousins who spent a few nights with us. There is plenty of room!! We were a little confused on the “beach access”, because when we attempted to go down the stairway to the beach, a resident of another property said that they were his stairs and we couldn’t use them. The next day, we spoke to the owner who said that the “walkway” directly next to the stairs was our beach access and the beautiful colorful Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake were ours to use as well (which we did not know). I also liked the fact that the property is a few miles from Geneva-on-the-Lake because, as the mother of 2 boys, it would have cost me a few hundred dollars more in Arcade/Mini Golf, etc., if we stayed right on the Strip and I didn’t have to drive them there for the fun!! Some of our family stayed at a cottage right on the Strip and it was so loud that they couldn't sleep. Our Lakehurst Bungalow was peaceful, quiet and relaxing. We would definitely stay at this property again and are already making plans for our next reunion in 2 years!!
Our ext extended family stayed at the Lakeside Bungalow. We loved the house layout, the great outside space, the beach. On our wish list: large trash containers for the kitchen and breezeway, another rack for the oven, more blankets since it unexpectedly got quite chilly, more light in the kitchen, more than one pancake flipper. Other than those few things, the bungalow was very well appointed and comfortable.
We have stayed at several VRBO rentals and this is the only one I have not had a great experience at. The description for the house says that it's wonderful to fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of the water (Lake Eerie); we never could hear the water from the house - it's across a few yards and down a hill. One night there was a party around the campfire outside our window until after 3am - music and clanking bottles from other renters on the property I guess.
While we were there the yard was swampy, so it was hard to get to the lake/firepit. There were also TONS of mayflies but those eased up in the evening.
Note that the description features a garage and a dining room with a view of the lake - they are the same thing. Garage converted to dining/party room, just so you know.
No satellite contrary to the description, and no wireless internet; the password is posted but there is no way to enter the password. Also no napkins or laundry soap as listed. We called 2-3 times to see if we were missing something/doing something wrong with the internet but by the time we got a call back we had bought we needed and given up on being able to use the internet. The place was pretty clean - some grime/hair in the tub and bathroom floors, not a big deal.
Don't get me wrong - I don't need satellite or internet or anything, would rather enjoy the beautiful surroundings! It was just frustrating to have been expecting those things, paid for them, and not had them - plus the (unpreventable of course) disappointment of not being able to use the yard much b/c of the mayflies and wetness. We had several other (less expensive) options so I wish I would have known before I booked the place! :(
On a positive note: the beach was fun for the kids - some litter including a tire, and dead fish around the fishing area but it was still nice for the kids to dig around in the sand and look for seashells. The temperature was pleasant, no a/c needed. Lots of space for hanging out inside, beautiful sunsets. Nice to have plenty of bathrooms for everyone.
House is very comfortable. Early 60's decor. No AC (wasn't a problem the week we were there). Double garage has been converted into a den. First floor bedroom has twin beds. Convertible couch in living room is a queen. Couch in garage converts to king size. Three upstairs bedrooms have queen beds. Two and a half bathrooms (half bath is off master bedroom). Basic cable TV (no ESPN, CNN etc). Huge yard, firepit, great lake view, walk down to the beach. Alesandros restaurant is a quarter mile down the road. It's excellent. State park lodge restaurant is very good too.
I will be leaving the Bungalow tomorrow morning after a wonderful week. The house had everything we needed to make our stay perfect. My friend is leaving for Wisconsin in a few months so we decided to have a "Bon Voyage" of sorts. She came with her 4 kids and I was here with mine and it was a fabulouse time from beginning to end. The kids loved searching for "sea glass" on the private beach and the older boys spent time just shooting hoops right in the drive way. There was plenty of space for the kids to play and relax. I can't even begin to do justice in describing the AMAZING views and even more amazing sunsets. Breath taking for sure.
I spent a lot of time talking with Rick, one of the owners and I can't even say enough good things about him. He was personable and kind. He made every effort to see that our time here was enjoyable. I hope to be back again real soon. Thank you so much for a trip that will certainly be a favorite memory forever.
