Yosemite National Park Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5-7)

The most relaxing and amazing location to stay during your next trip to Yosemite is The Secret Meadows Retreat.

This A frame home is situated on it’s own fourteen acres of meadows and forest. It features one bedroom plus a loft bedroom, large living room with sofas and wood burning fireplace.

Frequented by deer and other wildlife this is an exclusive experience being offered as a rental for the first time, on a trial basis.

Driving through three gates and 300 yards down it’s private driveway will bring you to the home and the first meadow.

This is an old homestead site with just a handful of nearby cabins, all of which are far enough away to provide you with complete privacy (except for the deer, birds, and other wildlife). Adjacent to and surrounded by thousands of aces of Stanislaus National Forest which can accessed by trails and old logging roads from the Retreat.

Located just 400 yards from Hwy 120, approximate five miles west of the Big Oak Flat entrance to Yosemite National Park, in the Hardin Flat area.

This is an incredible destination that may leave you content without even venturing into Yosemite Valley, even though the Big Oak Flat entrance to Yosemite is just another ten minutes down the 120.

Nearby horseback riding, river rafting and guided tours can be arranged.

The home is cozy, with one private bedroom with queen bed and TV, a loft with one double pillow-top queen and one full (plus an amazing view over the meadow), a dining room, fully stocked kitchen and a large, fourteen x twenty four foot, family room with a big wood burning fireplace, 42” flat screen TV on Dish Network, a desk with computer, and couches which can easily sleep two more.

Includes all appliances, a washer-dryer, hot water (strong pressure), central heating (plus a pellet stove in the dining room and the wood burning fireplace in the living room).

Why The Owner chose Yosemite National Park

I have been searching (and continue searching) for extradinary properties in the best natural locations.

Secret Meadows Retreat qualifies due to:

1) It's proximity to incredible Yosemite National Park

2) It's unsurpassable privacy, peace and quiet

3) The rarity of having fourteen privately owned acres of perfect meadows and forest

4) The variety of incredible activities which can be experienced in the immediately surrounding area

What makes this cabin unique

Watching deer graze in our meadows (seasonal)

Stargazing from our fire circle

On site or nearby horseback riding, whitewater rafting (seasonal), snowshoeing (seasonal), hiking, mountain biking, waterfall viewing, fishing, boating, cliff jumping (into Rainbow Pool - 1 mile), bird watching, horseshoes, volleyball or badminton plus much, much more.

Perfect Place to get away!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from 3 nights at this amazing little gem of a property. At first I was concerned because coming from Southern California, I had booked a cabin north of Yosemite....but I am so glad I did. The drive each day into the valley (only about 40 minutes) was calming and beautiful. The cabin is literally 10 minutes from the Big Flat Yosemite gate. We stayed there with another family and there was plenty of room for everyone. Each night after exploring Yosemite, we would return to the cabin and drink hot chocolate by the fire and watch the 20 to 40 deer grazing right outside the huge windows. The beds were very comfortable and there was enough hot water in the morning for 4 adults and 2 teens to shower (and all still be toasty warm). There was plenty of room to sprawl out and find private places if you needed alone time to read or write. We did not get cell phone service, so no calls, no texts and no emails (this was great for us...gave us a mandatory four days off of work)...but you should be prepared for it. I believe Dan said there was computer hook up...but we didn't bring our laptops. He also has a landline phone and long distance calls are covered. We just gave that number out for emergencies. We can't wait to visit again. After staying here, I can't imagine staying anywhere else when visiting Yosemite.

Awesome Vacation Spot!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was awesome!! My girlfriend and I really needed a relaxing weekend and that is exactly what this place provided. The owner was more than helpful with everything and we definitely will be staying here often. There are plenty of activities including an awesome hot tub, darts, fire pit, grill, baddmiten, hiking, weights and the Yosemite gate is right around the corner. This is by far one of the best cabins I have stayed in and it's not a bad price at all. Highly recommend to anyone!!

The worst place we have ever stayed!

  • 1 of 5

We stayed here for 5 days over Labor Day in September 2014. So after the last dreadful feedback posted before this one. Yet the owner operator still wants everyone to believe that everyone is happy and that this place is great!

When we arrived this place was filthy!! The cleaners had not been since the last visitors had left and the beds were as the last visitor had got out of them. The kitchen and was filthy and still had all the grease from previous use. The place as a whole is in a very poor condition and has not been replaced or updated it would seem since the 1970's. There is not quality in this cabin or its fittings its very shody, very old and not maintained. Why then we asked ourselves would we pay so much for what you would not accept in a five star hotel for the same price. My wife and I are from the UK and when we tried calling the owner on Labor day to discuss this with him (as there is no onsite management company to call) we didn't know we needed to put a "1" in front of the number (the owner is in San Diego apparently) that is in the visitors book to call in such instances and we could not contact them over the first couple of days. During this time my wife and I had to clean the cabin from top to bottom just to be able to stay there and this is on our holiday! In addition the Hot Tub doesn't work. It isn't rocket science to operate a hot tub, turn on both pumps and the heater and bob's your uncle. This hot tub shows the temperature increasing but put your hand in the water and its the same ambient temperature as before switching it on. On day three/four we eventually got hold of the owner and explained the situation and requested our cleaning fee be refunded and asked for a refund for the hot tub not be operational. After some time the owner agreed to refund our cleaning fee and a fee for the hot tub not working. I have this in an email from the owner. However, the refund was never given even after I returned to the UK. So I emailed the owner again requesting a refund and he asked to discuss this again over the phone. After some telephone tag we got hold of each other and the owner tried to tell me that he had driven all the way from San Diego with spare parts to find the hot tub working. He also said that visitors after us had not trouble with it.He apologized about the cleaners and then asked me if I still wanted a refund! NEXT INSTALLMENT FOLLOWS AS RUN OT OF SPACE!

Owner's Response: The hot tub works perfectly and has since being down for a couple of days last Christmas, due to a freeze. You just have to push the right buttons. This is a very private, secluded property surrounded by forest and meadows, right by the Park entrance and is intended to be used by people who desire and appreciate the Yosemite experience. This is a cabin / house at Yosemite and should not be expected to be decorated like a five star hotel. The type of guests we like, and who like The Retreat, are the ones who can appreciate the beauty and tranquility. The cleaning company may, or may not, have arrived late that day, depending who you believe. These guests haggled for a significant discount over a busy Holiday yet demanded a refund on "manufactured" claims with the threat of posting this negative review. I investigated their claims and found most to be false, so I did not succumb to their demand, thus this review. Plus, to be honest, I found these Brits to be very "snooty" and I didn't want to reward them for making up stories. A large part of their dissatisfaction is that I did not leave instructions that you have to dial a "1" before dialing a long distance number from a US land line. I assumed everyone knew that, but now there is a note by the phone. I investigated their claim that the house was not cleaned prior to their arrival. The cleaning company stated the guests arrived early, were in the property when they arrived to clean, and refused the cleaning, saying they did not want to be disturbed. I gave the guests the benefit of the doubt and offered to refund their cleaning fee. They next claimed the hot tub was not working. I checked with the previous guests, who told me it was working fine through the day they left ( the same day the British arrived). I offered to instruct them on the spa controls but they insisted "of course we know how to operate a spa". They convinced me it wasn't working. Since the spa repair service was booked for at least a week and a half I bought an extra motor, heater and other parts and immediately drove up from San Diego, to make sure the hot tub would work for the next guests. I did not have to install any parts, as the hot tub was working perfectly. You just have to turn on the jets to get the heater to come on, per the factory setting in this new control panel(At least this gave me an excuse to come to Yosemite!) The cleaning company is on a tighter leash and we strive to make any repairs immediately upon being notified

"Secret Meadows Mess": Whatever You Do, Don't Stay Here!

  • 1 of 5

Until now, I’ve never written a review for anything, but want so much to spare others what we’ve gone through—and continue to go through. Before renting SMR I read the reviews but no amount of due diligence could have prepared us for the sorry condition of the house itself. I mean…we’re talking health and safety code violations here!

The owner and property manager for “Secret Meadows Retreat” has already conceded that we “shouldn’t have had to go through this”—that it wasn’t “right” that the vacation rental we'd contracted in July was in such disrepair; and yet, at the appointed time we agreed to discuss a fair solution, refused to take my calls or answer my emails. I have sent him photos and lengthy descriptions of the jammed front door that doesn’t open or close (we put a coffee table in front of it before going to bed because my kids thought this was so “sketch”); the filthy windows, walls, floors, drawers; the stained linens; the filthy and stained carpet throughout the house; the broken dinnerware; the derelict furniture (a leather lounger with it’s stuffing hanging down the arm of the chair, furniture that looks like it was scavenged); the vertical blinds you can’t open to catch a breeze because the pull chain broke years ago, and which you can’t slide open without pulling down the track mount; the broken stovetop, the burn hole on the dishwasher, the smell of smoke that permeates the master bedroom; the leaky hot tub that puddles water into mud where the dirt meets the concrete slab in the car park that is the front walkway; the Leaning Tower of Badminton Court; the insect graveyard in every single lamp fixture; windows without screens; the dirty rags sitting in brown water in the half-filled washing machine; the hair on the sink in the guest bathroom…Overall effect: if you're looking for a good-ol'-boys' hunting cabin, or the perfect site for a frat party, SMR is your own little slice of heaven!

In a recent email I learned that the housekeeping service had been blamed entirely--and that everything's all "cleaned up" and yet, when I asked to be refunded for one night AND my cleaning deposit I was told that this same cleaning service claimed we'd left a bigger mess upon leaving than they. In anticipation of this kind of sleazy response, I took before and after photos of every room at the time of our departure I'm more than happy to share. One month later I'm still trying to get my money back…just pretty dang miserable all the way around.

Owner's Response: We've hosted hundreds and hundreds of happy guests, all of whom enjoyed and appreciated the beauty, privacy and nature of Secret Meadows Retreat. Now this. I tried talking to this lady and she told me she "wished my house burned down". I've witnessed my relatives homes burning down and wouldn't wish this on anyone. I told here I wouldn't talk again unless she could promise a "civil" conversation. She wouldn't. I hired a very experienced professional public relations professional to try and see what her issues were, and how we could appease her. He gave up, telling me she was unreasonable, and .... She demanded a large monetary reward, or threatened to post this review. We tried hard, but could not have any rational discussions with her. The guests who left the day she arrived were, like all our other guests, delighted with the property and left a positive review. All the guests who stayed after this lady were likewise very happy with Secret Meadows Retreat. I was at The Retreat just two weeks prior to Ms. Martin's stay and throughly inspected the property. Everything was in order. SMR is extremely popular, and is booked every day from mid-Spring through September, so it's possible the heavy use was more than the cleaners could keep up with, so I had them perform an extra deep clean. I also had the carpets shampooed. A prior guest had spilled a beverage on a bedspread, so we bought a new one. We couldn't determine why Ms. Martin was so "distressed", but we offered her a refund for more than a nights stay. She demanded more. I don't like to succumb to extortion, especially when the person is being so nasty, so she posted this false review. Our practice is to professionally clean and maintain the property. Any time there is extra wear or damage we take care of it as soon as possible. Our intent is for every guest to have a great time and to completely enjoy their stay. However, every now and then you run across someone with troubles that are beyond our expertise.

Springtime in Yosemite

  • 4 of 5

My friend and I were looking for a restful, quiet retreat with easy access to the park and this spot delivered. During the day we had easy access to Yosemite where the falls we're beautiful and the scenery breathtaking. In the evenings we returned to this quiet, comfortable cabin. It's on a large piece of property out of sight of other cabins. When we arrived, a fox was in the meadow to welcome us. The deer were bashful but we saw them driving in and out of the area. The cabin is spacious and comfortable with a nice deck. San was attentive and ensured we had a good visit. If we ever go back to the area, this is where we'll stay. Thanks, Dan.
