We spent a week at Crene after having booked on the internet from Australia. Before our arrival, the owners, David and Samantha, were extremely helpful about local information, as well as being very flexible when I was dithering about our exact dates!
Upon our arrival, everything was done to make us feel at home and to provide helpful extras, such as a big drying rack for our copious amounts of dirty washing! The gite was very spacious and airy, spotlessly clean, and had lots of extra touches which made it both practical and welcoming. The description of the property had been very accurate; we were delighted to find it was as picturesque as portrayed on the website, which is apparently not always the case!
The kitchen and family room are exceptional, providing a large, comfortable area to relax in after a long day out. We found the facilities in the kitchen great, with everything you could possibly need being provided. We went out virtually every day, but if the weather had been bad, it would have been an extremely pleasant spot to lounge around relaxing, looking out on a picturesque landscape from the comfort of the armchairs, with a wide range of books, games and television channels to enjoy!
Having two bathrooms was very handy, as it meant our family of 4 could spread ourselves nicely between them without getting in each other's way as we got ready to go out in the morning. This would also be ideal for two couples travelling together and wanting some privacy.
There is a huge variety of places to see within easy reach of Crene. Loches itself is a pretty market town and we made the most of its proximity to other beautiful spots in the Loire area, such as Villandry, Tours, Chinon, Saumur, Montresor etc . One gastronomic highlight for us was "Le Domaine de la Giraudiere", a marvellous farmhouse restaurant just outside Villandry. The food was wonderful; it's a great place to eat after exploring the chateau, which is well worth seeing.
We would definitely recommend Crene farmhouse as a marvellous place to stay, being extremely comfortable, clean and spacious. David and Samantha and their family will make you very welcome, as well as having lots of ideas for things to do. We had a very happy holiday there and will definitely go back if we get the opportunity.
