Alaska Northern Sands is a non-smoking property, in the Suite, in the Ocean View Room and outside on the grounds. Alaska Northern Sands has the best location in Juneau for activities – No other vacation rental or bed and breakfast is as centrally located for so many activities.

About The Owner

Tom arrived in Juneau in 1977 and Debbie arrived three years later. They completed their new home along with the Alaska Northern Sands Suite and the Ocean View Room on the Auke Bay beach in August of 2005.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2005
Why The Owner chose Juneau

We were extremely fortunate to be able to build our home and the Alaska Northern Sands vacation rental on the Auke Bay beach. It is unique because of its spectacular views, proximate access to the Juneau International Airport, the Alaska Marine Highway ferry terminal, and shopping as well as the relative quite of the surrounding neighborhood.

What makes this apartment unique

Be sure to bring your binoculars for the best viewing of wildlife and the spectacular scenery! From your accommodations, the gazebo or on the beach you just might see, Eagles – regularly year round, right in front of your Suite; Salmon – regularly jumping in July & August; Orcas – occasionally in summer, usually in the distance; Humpback whales – occasionally in summer, sometimes as close as 100 yards off shore. And although rarely, we have even seen them breach in front of the house; Otters – occasionally year round; Seals – occasionally year round; Sea Lions - often in winter; Ducks – regularly in fall and winter; Deer – occasionally year round; Blue Herons– occasionally in summer. Enjoy the soothing sounds of the AKNS waterfall and pond from the Suite or the veranda. Walk down to the beach for some Alaska beachcombing. Or just relax and enjoy the view and the sounds of the ocean waves from our oceanfront gazebo.

Our stay here was delightful. Before we ever entered the suite we were overwhelmed by the beauty of the landscaping and welcomed by Denali -- the resident dog. For the first two days we also rented the studio for our son. Both facilities were well equipped and spotlessly clean. The views from every window were awesome. We could sit on the deck and look across the bay to the ferry terminal and see the ferries coming and going. Since we were departing on the ferry we were glad to be fairly close. This property is close to Mendenhall Glacier and only miles from town. The owners had information about hikes and scenic attractions in the aparment which was very useful in deciding where to go and what to do. I would highly recommend it to any one traveling to Juneau.

The view is WOW. It is just as described. The owner meet us at the airport and led us to the rental. He personally went over use of all equipment. Owners are easily accessible if needed as live on location. Everything was available such as coffee and laundry detergent. Easy to get to all attractions. Thank you for comfortable relaxing stay.

Your jaw will drop as you pull up to this beautiful location. The interior will surprise you with the cleanliness and decor. Thier dog Denali is sooo friendly my daughter loved him. Tom and Deb will help you with your questions. I highly recomend staying here.

Absolute Perfection

My husband and I stayed in the Suite in early July and we had a totally relaxing time there. There is a magnificent, 180-degree view; everything that can be seen is beautiful---the water, the mountains, the boats, the flowers in the yard, and the bald eagles that fly around the property. There is a stylish and spacious balcony from which to enjoy the fabulous view. The inside of the Suite is extremely comfortable and immaculate. There is plenty of space in each area and the gorgeous view can be enjoyed from the bedroom, living room, and kitchen. All of the kitchen appliances are of top quality and everything in the unit worked perfectly. The bed was really comfortable and the linens were even made of luxurious bamboo!
The owners are extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating. It is obvious that the 2 rental units and the extensive and beautiful landscaping is a labor of love for them and fortunate travelers who come upon this gem get to enjoy the fruits of their dedication to perfection. And, their dog, Denali, is the most mellow and gentle dog ever! I definitely recommend this property to anyone who desires a wonderful and stress-free stay.
The Mendenhall Glacier and Lake is really close by; we had a great time there hiking one day and then kayaking near newly-formed icebergs another day after a rare jokulhlaup (glacial outburst flood) occurred.
We also went for a scenic drive "out the road" with a very enjoyable stop at the Shrine of St. Therese. Auke Lake is also very close by for a beautiful walk.
This segment of our Alaskan vacation was absolutely perfect due to the owners' hard work and dedication to perfection.

The property is beautiful even in the rain. Very comfortable, clean and spacious. Owners very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed are stay and would have liked it to be longer. We would definetly recommend to friends and relatives.
