Wonderful Island Retreat
We absolutely loved our stay at the Island House! It was the perfect place to hold our family reunion, and couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to call home for the week. It started out with a very warm and gracious welcome by the owner, Ralph, who gave us a personalized tour of the home and took the time to share with us his favorite activities and restaurants in the area. The location of the home is ideal, and we enjoyed spending early mornings and evenings watching the boats come in and out of the cove (including President Bush's boat), and going to sleep with the windows open and the sound of the waves crashing outside. Although the home is close to a busy marina and shopping area, as soon as you walk past the gate into the neighborhood, it is very quiet and peaceful. One of the things we quickly learned was that Ogunquit is a walking town, so apart from a trip to the store the first day, we left our car in the driveway and walked everywhere into town and along the Marginal Way to the beach. Some of the highlights were: seeing South Pacific at the Ogunquit Playhouse (I would highly recommend going to see a show there), buying lobsters from Goat in Perkins Cove and cooking a lobster dinner at the house, sampling the goodies at Bread and Roses bakery in town, breakfast at Amore Cafe, going to the beach, and taking the Finest Kind lobstering cruise. Most of all, we enjoyed spending time in the spacious, comfortable home with family, and would love to return to the house again next summer.
