My wife and her family have been visiting Ogunquit for over 30 years and we could not have found a better place to stay than the Island House. Our week at the house was fabulous! The ocean views from every room in the house, including the very large wrap around porch, are spectacular. Everyone in our group (of seven) loved the house and its location, and it was great for both the adults and kids. The adults in our group spent many afternoons before dinner having a glass of wine on the porch or on the lawn overlooking Perkins Cove. The kids loved the bunk beds in their bedroom and being able to have the internet access throughout the house. Listening to the early morning sounds of lobster boats leaving the Cove or being able to watch the sunrise from our bedroom was fabulous. Shops and restaurants are right around the corner, but seem far away once you drive past the gate up to the house. We loved our time at the Island House and will be back in the future.
We spent a week at The Island House and it was not at all what it is described to be. It is clearly misrepresented. The photos you see must have been taken when the renovation was completed in 2003. We arrived to an unclean house that even Ralph the owner agreed.
Dirty windows, inside and out, crumbs from previous renters on furniture. Rugs and upholstery that was stained. Oven was dirty inside and out, Ralph the owner, also agreed and said it hasn't been done in quite some time because the electric clean smells. Really! The gas grill was caked with grease inside and out.
Hot tub was not serviced until two days after we arrived.
Gas fireplace wasn't working. Ralph sent a repairman who was able to partially fix it (a part needed to be ordered).
Several light bulbs were out including the MBR shower so we had to shower in the dark.
Linens and towels are included and said to be new this season - clearly they weren't and have been around for years. I put the really bad upholstery and rugs in a closet before the rest of my family arrived.
Washer and dryers needed to be cleaned as there was residue and dirt all over, smelled foul and take a long time to wash and dry. If one is to wash all linens before you leave, you better start the afternoon before as I did and I still wasn't finished when the cleaners arrived 15 minutes early our day of departure.
There was none of the instruction regarding the house that others talk about from Ralph. He was very pleasant but gave no instruction on operation. In fact, he asked if I had the instruction sheet he sent. No, he had never sent one nor did he then provide one.
The house has great bones and a beautiful location. But be warned, it is not a Five Star property nor is it worth the price I paid for the week.
We had a wonderful week at The Island House. The home is warm and welcoming from the moment you step in the front door. It is well appointed and perfect for a large family or group of friends.
The living room was a wonderful respite, and with the cozy fireplace was the perfect place to end your day. It was especially nice to be able to enjoy the sunrise, with several decks to choose from. Bedrooms are well appointed and comfortable, kitchen is well appointed, and the dining room is a great place to enjoy breakfast and gather for dinner.
The listing was quite accurate and the home is very well maintained. The entire process, from beginning to end was a pleasure and Ralph was a delight to speak to. I would highly recommend this property for a week away.
The home is within walking distance to many restaurants and shop, but is located at the quiet end of Perkins Cove. I look forward to visiting again in the future.
My now husband and I have enjoyed visiting Perkins Cove for years on our weekend visits to Maine. We've always admired the Island House from the tour boats that we've taken out of Perkins Cove. When we were thinking of where we wanted to host our small wedding, we thought what better than somewhere in Perkins Cove. We were so excited to find the page for the Island House and had a smooth experience in contacting the owner for details and questions about hosting a wedding on site. We got lucky as we had one of the most gorgeous weekends! Our group of friends and family thoroughly enjoyed their stay in this magnificent home. It has charm and character and everything on site that you'd need. The kitchen was a joy and was the center of activity in between long stretches on the porch overlooking the cove. The bedrooms were gorgeous, spacious, and comfortable. The view from the master suite deck is amazing. Coffee on the deck in the AM was a treat. In regards to our wedding, we hosted 40 guests on site for a lawn ceremony, appetizers and cocktails. We chose to walk to Barnacle Billy's for our dinner but there are many catering options locally that would work. We returned to the house for cake, dancing, and social time. Everyone enjoyed the flow, the views, and the charm. Parking was easy as there are many options for guests in Perkins Cove. Many of our guests stayed at the nearby Yardarm Village Inn and loved the service there. It was within walking distance of our function. Ralph the owner was most helpful and available for questions. We will never forget the wonderful days spent at the Island House. We'll look forward to returning to Perkins Cove each year and reminiscing about this wonderful experience!
My extended family rented this house over the July 4th week this summer and had a wonderful time. Ralph, the owner, was on site to meet us and explain things and responsive to any questions we had during the week. The house is located on a small hill at the far end of Perkins Cove on a court with a few other houses. It had plenty of space including a huge kitchen with dining space for all 12 of us, a large covered porch to watch the boats go by, a large grill and 5+ modern bathrooms. We loved the location and being able to walk down the small hill to the shops and restaurants at Perkins Cove and the Marginal Way. One hint: If you plan to go to the beach (by car or by trolley, which has a stop in Perkins Cove), bring beach towels and chairs. We truly enjoyed our time at the Island House and hope to be back again soon!
The island house is located on a small island at the very end of Perkins Cove Ogunquit..For those who have not been to Ogunquit, it is a beautiful, quaint and upscale coastal town a couple of hours north of Boston. The town boasts a beautiful large all sand beach, a variety of interesting shops, and a number of impressive art galleries.
You can also enjoy dozens of outstanding restaurants and places to grab a cocktail. But if you rent this house, you probably won't because there is no better view in Oqunquit, and no place more inviting than the many decks on this home where every evening we enjoyed drinks and takeout from the comfort of this home. Believe it or not, a restaurant, even the best of them, seemed a step down.
The home itself is beautiful inside and out. The owner pays great attention to detail. The gardens are exquisite, the beds and furniture modern and comfortable, and the kitchen is a cooks dream. The house is stocked with all basic necessities and more. (paper towels, laundry detergent in both laundry rooms etc) Even the art, hanging on the walls is quite special.
Three of the five bedrooms have bathrooms, the master bedroom has a sliding glass door leading to a huge and private ocean view deck. THe master bath has both a Jacuzzi tub and a multi-jet walk-in shower. I have stayed in Ogunquit many times and in a number of fine inns and hotels and the master bedroom at the Island House easily beats them all - by a lot!
Oh and by the way, we held our wedding the day after we arrived. Twenty-five people joined us for a wonderful day. The house is absolutely a perfect place to hold a wedding and a perfect place to honeymoon. The owner suggested a caterer who was perfect. The house easily sleeps a dozen people and our young adult children and a few special friends spent some time with us after the wedding. During the day we walked on the Marginal Way (Google it - you will love it), or strolled the 100 yards or so into Perkins Cove to grab a lobster roll, or an iced coffee and muffin and then perused the shops. I also grabbed a couple of rounds of golf at the Cape Neddick Golf Course less than 5 miles away.
Elegant, romantic, relaxing and something special, the Island House is as good as it gets.
The Island House is located in a small gated community at the very end of quaint Perkins Cove. Although adjacent to Perkins Cove it is buffered by award winning garden, Enjoy the proximity. Walking distance to six delicious restaurants, three cafes, candy store for the kids, beaches, the marginal way, shopping, arts & crafts shops, art galleries, clothing boutiques, charter fishing, sailing, boating, moon lit cruises. No need to drive. No need for a designated driver.
Golf: There are golf courses open to the public just a few miles from the Island House. Also the Par 3 at Merriland Farms. Eat fresh blueberries between holes. Great fun for the family. Kids love out performing their parents.
