We are so pleased that our first time in ANP was in Joan's beautiful place.
We just left the place today and we already missed it and looking forward to come back.
I was myself, husband and my 6 years boy and 4 year girl so the house fitted us just perfectly.
Joan is nice and friendly, she keeps her place impeccable, intact, so clean, so cozy, so nice,........etc. Overlooking the harbor, in very quite street, two minutes from a restaurant named seafood Ketch we did not get the chance to checked it out, but heard all good about it and was always busy, also just by Rich's take out place where we bought fresh lobster for very good price and cooked in the big Lobster Pot in Joan's kitchen that is stocked with everything you might need to enjoy your time and make the stay effortless and so is the new washer and dryer in the premises.
We stayed almost off season and glad we did to witness the Fall foliage and the scenic views that ANP is about. the house is very convenient to ANP and Bar Harbor, is also just few minutes drive or nice walk to Bass harbor historical light house where we did witness breathtaking moments in a light house standing there for the wind, the rain, the hot and cold weather, just so peaceful and speechless. Will strongly recommend Joan's Place for anyone looking for life time trip.
Thank you Joan for making our stay so memorable, will be back, free up the schedule for us please!
I almost feel like the prior reviewer--I am afraid to give away this jewel to everyone out there! But I have to be honest and do right by the very kind and super-flexible owner Joan. We had a great stay for several days and nights in this super clean, extremely well taken care of house! I loved that there are no carpets as I have kids (we had 2 adults and 2 kids) with allergies. The house is very nicely painted, has brand new beds, bedding and mattresses--very comfortable! Beautiful, well equipped kitchen for all of your needs and is located in a beautiful, quiet street of Bass Harbor, where you enjoy the view of the water right from your window and patio. It was VERY convenient for our day trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Located walking distance from a restaurant and has new washer and dryer, which was also great with 2 little boys! We LOVED our stay. We have a few more places on our list to visit before we come back but we will definitely return here and recommend to all who ask. Please note, just as another reviewer noted, the place only has one small TV, so if you are looking for HDTV and surround system you won't find it here, but we actually enjoyed that too. The small TV with a VCR was perfect to entertain the kids at breakfast after which we were out for the rest of the day and returned for late dinners at home... What else do you need in such a beautiful place? As I mentioned Joan was super accommodating, super nice and flexible. We took some pictures and would love to share them (once I figure out how to upload to here)! (Joan, sorry it took us a while to post our review).
I almost hate to write this review, as the secret will be out, but this was one of the best vacation stays we have experienced. The home itself is beautifully kept, and the location is fantastic. We took our young children with us (ages 5 and 8) for a week and had a fantastic time. We were able to purchase live lobsters from the pier within walking distance, and cook up fresh lobster in our "home away from home" any night we wished. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom is beautiful and the kitchen, fully stocked with anything you might need. We definitely will be back!
The previous reviews are spot-on. For a week long vacation for myself, my wife, and my 6 yr old son, and 4 yr old daughter, this property well exceeded our expectations. The home is very clean, very tidy, more than adequately furnished -- perfect for a family bonding vacation. The owner Joan has much to be proud of with all the modernization work she has put into this home, which has been with her family for generations. My son and I played small soccer and whiffle ball games in the back yard. The Sunset View picture is your view from the deck -- see if you can figure out what time the fishing boat straight out from you departs every morning (I could not!!!). 2 restaurants are within walking distance, and Thurston's across the harbor was a family favorite. A piece of advice for potential renters... If you expect lavish and spacious elegance in every corner, you might be disappointed. This is a fisherman's family home in a fishing village converted to a cozy vacation rental. If you keep that in mind, you too will appreciate the quality, cleanliness, and furnishings this home has to offer.
This townhouse is a very well kept, clean, well fitted comfortable home. Very spacious as well. Indeed very nice views of Bass Harbor bay area and harbor. Landlord is very helpful and hospitable.
We really enjoyed our stay in Bass Harbor. The house was very clean and bright. Was just perfect for my wife and me. Just a short walk to harbor, where you can buy your fresh caught Lobster to cook in pot at house. Lobster is very cheap to buy and so easy to fix....which saves a lot of money. The owner was very gracious to us as well as her son whom is a lobster fisherman. If you are looking for a cool, relaxing time this is the place to go. Bring your own kayak and you can kayak in ocean no problem. Not far from Bar Harbor, about 20 minutes. Wish I could go back every summer.
The quiet side of Mount Desert Island .Overlooking the working harbor of Bass Harbor and Bernard. Watch the lobster men with there catch. Watch the seals come up to wharf and eat the bait.
Other Activities: Kayaking
