Lake McDonald Boathouse
Location: In Glacier National Park, Montana, USA (20 miles from Glacier International Airport, (FCA.)
Accommodations: Cabin, Sleeps 4 (four), one bedroom with King Size Bed and loft with two twin beds;
Enjoy your vacation in historic Glacier National Park while staying on the shores of beautiful Lake McDonald. This newly built, privately owned cabin is the perfect place to re-energize after a day of hiking the trails of the Park or floating the rapids with a guided tour on the Flathead River.
Awaken to the priceless view of Logan Pass and the famed Going-to-the-Sun Road. The cabin sleeps 4, with sleeping areas on the 2nd floor. The cabin is not handicap accessible.
The property has its own beach with a boat dock for sunning or swimming. A public boat launch is a short distance away in the village of Apgar. The cozy living room will assure your relaxation after serving up a meal in the full kitchen or on the outdoor barbeque.
Scenic golfing (18 holes) is available 2 miles down the road in West Glacier, or, if you choose, drive a scenic route to Columbia Falls, Kalispell, Whitefish or Bigfork where you will find World Class Championship Golf Courses, all within 30 minutes from the 'Boathouse.' Several fine restaurants are available in Apgar, within walking distance, or in West Glacier. There are also small general stores in these two locations.
The Visitor’s Center in Apgar can assist you in planning your activities. If you prefer not to drive, you may choose to utilize the shuttle system for your tour through the Park.
After you have explored Glacier Park, you can travel west on highway 2 to find many more fun filled activities, all within a 30 minute drive. Whatever the days’ adventures bring, find rest and relaxation at the Lake McDonald 'Boathouse.'
The owners and their family will probably be occupying cabin #1 next to the 'Boathouse' but will respect the renter’s privacy. No smoking on the premises will be allowed.
Come and stay at the Boathouse and witness the history and grandeur of Glacier National Park!
My name is Kitty Dowaliby. I'm Mike and Sally Dowaliby's daughter-in-law and I am acting as manager for reservations for their beautiful property.
The owner's family homesteaded on land further north on Lake McDonald prior to it becoming a National Park. A devastating fire destroyed the original home so the family was able to acquire the present land. The original house on the current land was taken down to accommodate the current homes.
Our cabin is located in Glacier Park and has a phenomenal view of Logan Pass and the Going-to-the-Sun Road. We enjoy the 'hidden away' private cabin but we have access to restaurants, shopping and golf in Apgar and West Glacier and other activities located in surrounding towns.
This is a magical place. We are filled with inspiration and appreciation for the natural beauty of the lake, mountains, birds, fish, bears, goats, sheep marmots, snakes, clouds and sky! Thank you for building The Boathouse and renting it to us. We will be back!
Our stay in The Boathouse turned out to be one of the nicest surprises ever in Glacier! Owners are terrific and went out of their way to make us comfortable! Everything is at your feet! I could stare at that view forever! Beats the Ritz-Carlton in any city any day!
The Boathouse has it all! It is very clean, nicely furnished, thoughtfully supplied and well situated in both a beautiful and convenient location in the spectacular Glacier National Park. There was plenty of space in the common areas for our party of two couples. Both the master bedroom and the loft room were spacious and private. The family members we met were all very friendly, warm and welcoming and the property manager (also a family member) was extremely responsive and helpful. We absolutely loved our week at the Boathouse and look forward to returning in the future.
The boathouse is a piece of heaven in glacier national park. Everything you need is there. House is clean and comfortable. Best of all are the views from the house, sitting on the dock and watching the deer right in the driveway. Easy walk to apgar village. Absolutely perfect!
My wife and I spent 1 week at the Boathouse. We were very comfortable there. Being located within Glacier NP meant for shorter drives to trailheads. We also liked going to ranger talks at the campgrounds in the evening and we were a few minutes from Apgar campground and Fish Creek campground. The beach area on Lake McDonald right out the back door was beautiful and very relaxing in the afternoon and early evening. I liked the touch of providing bear spray canisters for the guests. We carried them on hikes but did not use them. This saved us from having to buy them.
As already mentioned, I'm pretty sure there's not better accommodations available in the whole park. We loved being within walking distance of Apgar and a short drive from hikes and everything else on the West side. When it rained for the last 2 days of our stay, no one complained about having to curl up with a book & cup of hot cocoa on the couch or window seat and watch the rain falling on the lake -- can't imagine what we would have done in a hotel room for that long! We're definitely planning to come back and use the Boathouse as home base again to do the hikes we weren't able to do this time.
Perfect, beautiful location right on Lake McDonald!!! It was quiet, clean and restful within easy driving distance to all that West Glacier has to offer. Highly recommended. Owner's home is very close, but they were friendly and very respectful of our privacy.
