Schoodic Point: Acadia National Park:
The cottage is only a few minutes from Schoodic Point, a beautiful part of Acadia National Park. There are picnic areas, a dock where you can fish or look for sand dollars, and hiking trails. Biking is also great around this area. It is far less populated than the Bar Harbor area and is very relaxing.
The cottage waterfront...:
The house overlooks Birch Harbor, a small sheltered harbor with a few lobster boats and lots of scenery. Walks along the water are wonderful with the rocks and seaweed making for classic Maine views. The tidal range is about 6-8 feet here so there is always something new to see in the ever-changing landscape. Carry-in boat access is available right from shore - perfect for kayaks or canoes. Boat rental is possible at local businesses if you don't have one. The blueberry picking is excellent on the ledges around the cottage - perfect for muffins or just eating them plain!
Our Family:
My aunt originally built this cottage on Birch Harbor back in the mid 1970s. The redwood construction has been perfect for a Maine getaway. She was a snow bird - spending winters in Florida and her summers in Maine at the cottage. She loved the blueberries and would make us fresh muffins whenever we visited as kids. We would take trips down to the lobster pound and buy lobsters off the boat. It was at the cottage that we learned the wonders of the sea by collecting sea creature from the tidal flats and putting them in the tide pool - only to be washed away at the next tide. Her kindness has allowed us to keep visiting the cottage and now to share it with others. I hope you choose to stay at our little retreat and that you will come to love it as we do.
