|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Our cabin is nestled in the majestic mountain terrain of Gallatin National Forest and is just twelve miles from Gardiner, a year round gateway to Yellowstone National Park. It is the perfect distance to be able to enjoy Yellowstone but be able to get away from the crowds. From The Lazy M Yellowstone National Park is a scenic 20-25 minute drive. Our cabin is 30 minutes from Chico Hot Springs, an hour from Livingston, and hour and a half from Bozeman Airport.
The cabin is adjacent to Cinnabar Creek, which is great for small trout fishing, and has a magnificent porch with Adirondack chairs to enjoy the beautiful mountain view. If you want to just sit back and relax you can spend hours sitting on the porch next to the creek drinking coffee or wine while reading one of our many books or just enjoying the peaceful environment. Watch deer, elk, and big horn sheep in the meadow out the front door, along the creek or on the nearby bluffs. Bears have also been seen from the porch and along the road. If you are really lucky you may even see a mountain lion. During the evening hours make sure to keep an ear open for howling wolves.
There is a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, pull out sleeper sofa in main cabin and a Tulikivi Fireplace.
This is a mountain cabin in the heart of Montana’s wilderness. While it has most of the amenities of home, it is still a rustic cabin. We have books, travel guides and games in the cabin, along with wireless internet (due to the cabin's remote location the speed is slow). There is no TV or phone in the cabin.
Paul and Emily purchased our property in 1994 after looking for a number of years. Emily's great grandfather had owned a general store next to the Crow Indian reservation in the 1890's. Her grandmother grew up in Anaconda, Montana. We have always enjoyed the landscape and dry mountain air of Montana. Paul and Emily had vacationed for many years in Yellowstone National Park before we purchased the LazyM. Day to day operation of the LazyM is done by Paul and Emily's daughter Laurel
Emily Sherman, Paul & Laurel Koller purchased this cabin in 1994
We choose this location because of it's proximity to Yellowstone Park and the beautiful scenery of Paradise Valley while allowing us quiet seclusion when needed. We enjoy hiking, fishing and both downhill and cross country skiing.
Sitting on the porch or deck you have a wonderful view of Cinnabar mountain. At night you can sleep with the sound of the creek flowing by and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Our cabin was built in the 1950's and we have tried to preserve it's original charm. We have white pine floors in the main cabin and rustic kitchen cabinets.
We really enjoyed the cabin. It was perfect for our plans. We felt right at home here. We will pass on this onformation to anyone coming to Yellowstone. Have a great Montana summer.
We'd been looking forward to this vacation for a year and we were not disappointed! The cabin had everything we needed, with the added bonus of allowing our dogs! We cooked every meal at the cabin which has a well equipped kitchen. It was comfortable, cozy and quiet. An exceptional base camp for adventure in Yellowstone Nat'l Park. Spent our days hiking and the quiet evenings enjoying the cabin's library of books.
The cabin was adequately sized for me and my 2 boys to stay. With the pull-out couch it was very comfy and roomy. The cabin was warm and cozy and had everything that we needed to eat in for all the meals. We chose to go horse-back riding up the road from the cabin, and it was a GREAT experience. Beautiful area with tons of wildlife to check out. The drive to Yellowstone was fairly short, however the drive to Old Faithful and the south-end attractions was far. With the road construction, it took about 2 hours. However, we ended up that direction only 1 day out of the 4 so it did not impact our trip too much. Being so close to Mammoth hot springs and Gardiner provided lots of outdoor fun.
Must see from the cabin in order of distance:
- Horseback riding
- Mammoth Hot springs
- Lower Yellowstone Falls
- Old Faithful and the geisers along the way
The area and cabin were kid-friendly, but there wasn't much area for the kids to go out exploring. There is a creek beside the cabin (not big enough to be concerned) and a road on the other side. They explored the yard, but are used to being able to hike around. I would still recommend it for kids however.
Tha Lazy M is the perfect place to stay for visiting Yellowstone, hiking the local trails, and exploring Montana towns. The cabin is clean, fully equipt, and really comfortable to kick back in. The babbling brook on the side adds to the experience. The Gardiner locals are so nice and friendly. So are the local dogs. There are yummy restaurants and food markets. The pubs are great for conversations with elderly locals with tons of stories. We will definitely be back.
Our first morning in the cabin, sitting on the porch on a chilly September morning, soaking up the sun and hearing only the sound of the creek.... we did not want to go and explore Yellowstone. We just wanted to sit there. And in the evenings, tired after exploring Yellowstone, we looked forward to coming back to the cabin to relax. So peaceful. It was perfect for us. The dogs loved it, too.
Even though there is supposed to be internet access (albeit slow), we could not connect ~ which made our stay even more perfect.
My family and I stayed at the Lazy M in August, 2014. The cabin was great and we loved staying there! It was in such a beautiful setting especially hearing the creek run by the cabin and the watching the sunrise between the mountains. Not far from the North entrance of Yellowstone. The cabin is well maintained and there was enough space for all 4 of us.
We had a wonderful stay. The setting is beautiful. The cabin is comfortable; the kitchen well-stocked. Laurel was so helpful and responsive to my multiple inquiries. Was tough to leave.
The LazyM is located 4 miles off Highway 89 near Gardiner, Montana (Yellowstone's North Entrance). This is the ideal location for day trips into Yellowstone National Park, while being able to return to quiet seclusion of sitting on the deck overlooking Cinnabar Creek. Hiking, Horseback riding, skiing, are all available nearby. Whitewater rafting and world class fishing on the Yellowstone are just a 10 minute drive.
Other Activities: Wildlife Viewing from the property as well as in Yellowstone.
Ski: For downhill skiing Bridger Bowl is 80 miles away from the cabin. Lots of cross country skiing in the area.
