First of all, people renting it are VERY nice and do a lot to satisfy your needs.
The place is very quiet and personal (it's in a residental area). We loved being away from lobbies, elevators and many floor buildings, i.e. hotels, and we liked the opportunity to cook ouselves. We fell welcome right after stepping in.
The place stands as described: bedroom, bathroom and kitchen (with all applyances). Kitchen is integrated with a living room. Aircondition is only in the bedroom, but there is both a ceiling fan and standing fan (can be moved) in the living room, although in the middle of the day/afternoon it becomes very hot anyway. Beach chairs, cooler box are provided, so go to the beach:)
Location was great for us. If you just want to see the ocean or catch a sunset, it's 3 min. walk away. And if you want to sit down and get better surroundings, go to the beach park 10min. away. We spent most of our time there. This park was not at all crowded (perhaps sandy beaches are further away), but we wanted to sit in the shadow under the trees and just overlook the ocean, so for us it was just perfect. Don't worry, you can also swim, and there is some sand to lie on.
Free high speed wireless internet. No phone in the house, but you can either use coin phones at grocery stores (10-15min away) or call tour operators from Skype.
2 grocery stores are within 15min. walking distance. One just across the street from the beach park. Buy your lunch and come back to the ocean to eat it. Tehre are no beach front restaurants around anyway.
Now a few facts. There are bugs in Hawaii due to climate. People renting this place use a monthly insect inspection that sprays the place every month (or every 2nd, I'm not sure), but there are of course no guarantees that they don't come in.
Tip: do the road to Hana first, then your trip to Haleakala crater will appear to be easy driving:) There are many mountain curves, and you do get high, so bring a warm jacket for Haleakala if you go there for sunrise or sunset (which was very very beautifull). Watch out for cows on the way down from Haleakala! They walk unattached and some were alsmost on the road, so drive carefully!
Tip: Luau at Marriot in Wailea (we chose it because it was closest) is very commercialised. If you can, try to find smth. more original. The show/dances were nice, but everything else was too commercialised. The food was just average as well.
Good luck in Maui. It's nice and hot.
