We would like to share a little history of how Terrapin Creek Lodge came to be.
In July 2005, during a family reunion in northern Alabama, the Bragg family first saw the house and 5 acres on Terrapin Creek we now call Terrapin Creek Lodge. Because we thought the property was unique and beautiful, we began pursuing its purchase as a vacation home for family reunions and holidays. Through various twists and turns, we were finally able to obtain it in September 2007.
At the time of purchase, the house needed extensive work and the cabins (and bathhouse) needed completion. We lovingly renovated the property with quality and warmth as a place where we wanted to live. We used natural materials and handmade furnishings whenever possible.
During construction, we were constantly told: “This would be a great place for a reunion, family vacation, church camp or wedding.” “This is a beautiful and peaceful place, will you rent it?” “This is such a warm and beautiful place – the handwork of God is everywhere.” It seemed that friends, neighbors and almost everyone we met asked to use it.
During the renovation, we let family, friends, and our family’s church use it. The overwhelming, positive feedback has convinced us that it is a place to be shared. Consequently, it is being made available for individuals, groups, families, businesses, churches and others who we hope will appreciate and care for it as we do.

Beautiful, peaceful, natural
I am a youth minister, and we use Terrapin Creek Lodge for our High School retreat for our High School teens. First, the staff at Terrapin is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and cooperative. Melissa, Mark, and Patsy are really nice and willing to help you with your event at the lodge. The facilities our incredibly nice. The cabins are nice with most having heat/air. The main lodge is beautiful. The scenery with the creek running along next to the facility makes a very tranquil and intimate setting. The fireplace area is super for hanging around a camp fire with friends. I would recommend Terrapin Creek for weddings, retreats, reunions, or a romantic getaway for your special someone!! This place is AWESOME!!
WHAT A GREAT PLACE TO STAY! Having recently stayed a week at Terrapin Creek Lodge, I can HIGHLY recommend it. It is a WONDERFUL PLACE and GREAT VALUE. It is on a beautiful 5-acre property with magnificent views of the creek & mountains. The home is very well and lovingly done and high quality – with hand made furniture, art & accents. It has an extremely well equipped, large kitchen and a gorgeous huge dining room overlooking the creek. We watched canoers and wildlife sitting in the dining room and on the decks. We cooked hotdogs and s’mores on the fireplaces... It was a lot of fun to float Terrapin Creek – a real, secret treasure. We also took trips to Little River Canyon (just 30 minutes away) that was fun. We really enjoyed having old-fashioned fun – swinging on the swings over the creek, playing games at night.and spending quality time together. Terrapin Creek Lodge has to be one of THE best places to stay in Alabama or the South, hands down. What fun we had! We look forward to another stay at Terrapin Creek Lodge...
The Lodge was a perfect fit for our Annual Sister's Trip. There are five of us who plan a trip every year to a different location. This year we wanted to work on our memories, our genealogy records and pictures without a lot of distractions and without putting everything up while working on them. We had unbelievable amount of room to work and spread out. There was more than enough bedding, a fully furnished kitchen, flower pots everywhere, herbs growing, swings over the creek, two outdoor fireplaces, tables indoor and out, Internet connection, and great views. We enjoyed watching the canoe's and kayak's floating down the creek, many of the people called out to us. The Lodge more than exceeded our expectations. We loved it and can't say enough good things about it.
Thanks Patsy and Melissa, this was a vacation we will never forget.
I would highly recommend this place for any type of social gathering. The fishing in Terrapin Creek & Weiss Lake is great, along with cycling the Chief Ladiga Trail and hiking in Little River Canyon & Pinhoti Recreation Area . The lodge itself is beautiful with the gorgeous decks, outdoor fireplaces, and the big dining room that overlooks the water.
This place is an incredible place to go! We were headed to Weiss Lake for a fishing trip and couldn't find just the right place at a decent price...this was it! My kids had so much fun and the scenery is absolutely beautiful and inviting! It will be our annual place-to-stay!
