I grew up in Michigan and spent summers in NW Michigan. Unfortunately, in the early 80's, the Michigan economy necessitated that I move to Denver first, then to Texas. I still try to get 'home' as often as I can to see the magnificent beauty of NW Michigan.

Jim purchased this house in 2004

Growing up in Michigan, our family used to vacation on Long Lake. I, like my brothers and parents, formed many fond memories on this beautiful lake. My hope in buying the cottage, was to provide the opportunity for my wife and children to form similar memories on Long Lake and NW Michigan.

The area of the lake that the cottage is on, is in a well protected cove and therefore typically very calm water. This calm water also is a plus as the local 'Loon' population very often is seen and heard out in front of the cottage. The cottage is well covered by trees so the cottage usually stays cool with breezes off of the lake.

Beautiful View - Beautiful Setting

The view of the lake, the location and the deck surrounding the home is wonderful, comfortorable and inviting! However, I do have to take "issue" with the home being professionally decorated. The furnishings in the living room and dining room were very worn and dated. The couch's fabric was stained and worn through and the kitchen chairs were uncomfortable at best. It was difficult to get through a meal sitting on them unless putting a pillow under you. The carpet was stained throughout the house and needs to be replaced. The kitchen dishes were a hodgepodge and many of the utensils and mugs, etc were not clean and needed to be rewashed carefully. The master bedroom bath needs a major update - especially the shower. The grout is stained, etc. a definite must to wear sandles while showering!! The outside area, the deck, beach and windows looked like they had not been cleaned for the season so we did some clean up ourselves.

The home itself is very spacious, three of the bedrooms are spacious and furnished with nice linens and towels. The main bath is in good shape.

We could not use the water for a day as a neighbor informed us that some chemicals were applied in the water to rid the area of an invasive plant. We did use the boat - which is very nice - and were able to enjoy the wate that dayr. It is a nice sandy, clean lake that was not crowded with alot of boat traffic. Our 2 year old grandson enjoyed the sandy bottom and gradual slope The owner was easy to work with and responded quickly to communication. Once the furnishings are updated and flooring changed this would get an excellent place to vacation!

Owner's Response: Jeff, sorry that the cottage did not live up to your expectations. I have revised some of the wording on description to help future renters with what to expect. I have already been in touch with my cleaners and will work on looking into cupboards between stays for cleanliness of dishes, etc. They will also clean windows towards lake, I will spray with insecticide as the indoor lights attract a myriad of different ones. Unfortunately, between the time that I visit in the Spring to now, it seems that the carpet got spotted. Between the cleaner and myself (I travel there next week), we will address the carpet and all of the other issues that can be dealt with between stays. Related to the water, that was unfortunate. The Long Lake Association does a good, and aggressive job, in containing the small amounts of "milfoil" weed that has been brought into the lake inadvertently by boaters. This year, they did happen to see a patch out front so received the OK from the cottage owners to treat early so as not to spread further. Long Lake continues to be one of the cleanest lakes in NW Michigan due to these types of efforts. Unfortunately, it came during your stay. I will review all of the furniture and will make the appropriate changes after the season. Thanks for bringing these items to my attention. Jim

GREAT PROPERTY!!!

Property was as described online. We had an incredible week at this home! We lived on the dock & on the boat. Caught some fish for our fish fry, listened to the loons, saw ducks & geese with their babies right off the dock! Jim was great to work with, he answered all our many questions before our trip. On the last day the boat didn't start & Jim did everything he could to try to get it fixed. We had other plans anyway, so it really wasn't a big deal. We really enjoyed how close we were to all the area attractions! We also liked how clean all the sheets & towels smelled, you don't get that everywhere you go! This is a great place to rent, and we will be back!

Great location,

Owner is great to deal with, great location.
But unfortunately the lake gave our entire party, swimmers itch, after the third day there. It would have been nice to know of this potential prior to booking. So I would say this is not ideal for little kids, since they cant go in the shallow warm water, without the potential of getting the rash. So now we had three days left, but had no desire to swim in the lake.
The cottage is in an ideal location, private. Just a few things of note on the inside, Bigger TV's on the inside would be nice, and carpet was dirty/dust, could use a machine wash. For the amount of money we paid for a week, we expected the inside to to be a little cleaner. But again the Deck is incredible, to bad about the water, and the owner is great to deal with. S.Rangi
Owner's Response: Thanks for the post. Sorry for the swimmers itch. It was identified as a potential and included in move-in instructions, but that doesn't help you now. This unseasonably warm summer might have something to do with it, but more likely prior feeding of the ducks. I will be sure to make it more clear to future residents. I will also reach out to cleaners and will have them make a special cleaning now that we are 2/3rds of way through the summer. Thanks again for the review. Jim

The owner (Jim) went out of his way to make our vaction seem like a dream. We arrived to find the property to be everything that is qouted on his vrbo site. We found the property clean and well taken care of. We had one small issue and Jim was very quick to responed to our needs. After my vacation I came home feeling relaxed and refreshed ready to start thinking of booking again with Jim.
