Photos and Description of the Bath vacation house rental
3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, sleeps 8

This spacious and lovingly-restored 107 year-old Victorian home oozes history, since it once belonged to the man who was the namesake for the fabled 'ghost ship' Carroll A. Deering -- built just half a mile down the road at the G. G. Deering shipyard (now site of the Maine Maritime Museum). The house offers views of the Kennebec River from almost every room, as well as the covered front porch and outdoor deck. With 3BR and a convertible sofa in the family room, it comfortably sleeps 8 with plenty of room to spare. Located in the town of Bath, voted one of America's 'Dozen Distinctive Destinations' by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the house is within walking distance of the quaint downtown district and the Maine Maritime Museum, and just minutes by car from the ocean and pristine Popham Beach. Bath is also the ‘Gateway to Downeast Maine’, located within 10-20 miles of half a dozen towns featuring many unique stores, antique shops, art galleries, outlets and restaurants.

More About the House: The house has a large sunny kitchen with granite counters, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee maker; dining room, family room, and a large formal living room with a piano. Enjoy breakfast while looking out of the kitchen window at the Kennebec River. Sip your coffee on the front porch as you watch the sailboats on the river or languish lazily on the side deck. Or, for the more adventurous, launch your canoe, kayak, or boat at the public boat ramp just a quarter mile away. The house is a short walk from the Maine Maritime Museum and downtown Bath with its quaint and historic shops, and just minutes from the ocean and pristine Popham Beach.

More About the Area: Bath has been voted one of the country's 'Best Small Cities' and also one of America's 'Dozen Distinctive Destinations' by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Bath is conveniently located within 10-25 miles of many other quaint towns in 'Downeast' Maine, including Five Islands, Wiscasset, Damariscotta, Edgecomb, and Boothbay Harbor. Drive 10 minutes west to Brunswick, home of Bowdoin College, and enjoy the town’s many restaurants, taverns, shops, and movie theaters (one which boasts eclectic and artsy new films). Another 10 minutes south brings you to Freeport, Maine's premier shopping mecca, which is home to the L.L. Bean company's flagship store and dozens of other outlet stores. A little further afield is the the 'big city', Portland, while Augusta, capital of the great state of Maine, lies 30 minutes north.

Pet Policy: All inquiries about this property must include detailed information concerning any and all pets which the prospective renters intend to bring with them. Be as specific as possible: number of pets, type (cat, dog, etc.), breed, etc.

About Kevin Boylan

We are a family of academics. I am a professor of history, while my wife is a nurse practitioner and dean of nursing. We grew up in New York and New Jersey and are both graduates of Rutgers University.

Kevin Boylan purchased this house in 2005
Why Kevin Boylan chose Bath

We moved to Maine in order to escape the hurly-burly of big city life and found our dream home in Bath. It was with immense regret that we left Maine a few years later when the opportunity arose to teach at Yale University, but we could not bear the idea of selling the house.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the house from the moment we stepped into its huge, exquisite kitchen, but what really won us over was the cozy, quaint family room, and the lovely river views from the living room and master bedroom

This house is in the perfect location for my familys yearly vacatiion to maine!. Bath is the mid point to all our vacation plans! Freeport,BoothBay,Hermit Island, and of course shopping downtown!
The rooms are huge and comfotable. On rainy days during our vacation we had our Camping friends over for the day. we gathered in the large, open kitchen and had a great time!
The neigbors were very friendly and helpful especially during an unexpected medical emergency. A special thanks to them!
We all cant wait till next year!!!!

Beautiful home away from home

We brought our grandchildren from Oklahoma who enjoyed Maine immensely. The house was ideal with plenty of space for the teens to do their thing. The house is in a great location to get around Maine, convient to down town Bath, short distance to the beach, great restaurants and summer treats. The house was very comfortable like a home away from home. I highly recommend this house. Thanks Kevin

Clean house

4 of 5
Submitted: September 20, 2011 Stayed: August 2011
Our family enjoyed our stay at this rental. House was large enough for everyone to have their own space. Everything was very clean. Plenty of bathrooms for 6 people. Parking was a little tight for three cars. The kitchen lacked enough tableware for everyone. We ended up going to Renys to get a Lobster Pot. Would recommend this place to others.

House was great ! Large, clean and had everything we needed for our stay. My daughter and 3 grandaughters and I had a great time. Bath is a great area as we wanted to visit Popham Beach and gather sand dollars. We had a great time walking the beach and the sandbars! Bath is a great location for shooting off to other areas such as Freeport, Boothbay Harbor and Bailey's Island. Everything you needed was found in the house as far as cooking and cleaning--it was great. I would highly recommend this a vacation rental.

Gorgeous house with lots of historic character

I stayed at the house in August 2011 for a week and had a delightful time. The house is gigantic and immaculate, just as the pictures indicate. The kitchen is updated and a joy to cook in! Bath is a lovely little town and a great jumping off point for so many things in coastal Maine. I had an awesome time, and I really appreciated the peace and quiet. Thanks much, Kevin!
