'TIMELESS' 18TH CENTURY VILLA AMIDST VINEYARDS NEAR ROME

Frascati Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 4+ Bedrooms, 3 Full Baths (Sleeps 10)

Over the past 20 years, travelers have enjoyed a unique vacation experience staying in our lovingly maintained 18th Century villa and ancestral home, Casale Sonnino. The Villa is built upon 2000 year old foundations and set amidst thirty acres of working vineyards and olive groves, 40 minutes from the heart of Rome. Featured in 'Gourmet Magazine' and 'The Boston Globe', in articles written by enchanted guests, the Casale Sonnino has been called 'home' by families, groups of friends and fine artists with their paint brushes. Many return year after year to enjoy the small town Italian hospitality, excellent local restaurants and authentic country living, yet be close to all that Rome has to offer.

Indeed, the Casale Sonnino is your perfect home base for exploring the beautiful hill towns of the Castelli Romani, touring the central Italian countryside from Florence to the Amalfi Coast and, of course, basking in the art, antiquities, history and the thriving 'dolce vita' that is Rome.

More About the Property: The Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Vatican Basilica and Museum, Piazza Navona, the Borghese Gallery with the famed Bernini Statues, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and, of course, designer shopping near the Piazza di Spagna are less than 1 hour away. When you sip your wine or espresso on the Casale’s terrace at sunset, the whole city sparkles before you.

Our guests have often commented that the Casale is a 'timeless place'. After a busy day of touring, you can rest comfortably surrounded by antiques as well as the modern day amenities of home. You can prepare your own meals in the fully stocked kitchen or have your dinner catered by our own local chef. Most of our guests prefer dining out at one of the many local restaurants - we'll tell you about our favorites when you arrive.

For families with children, the Casale is a 'place out of time'. Guests of all ages can pick figs, grapes and berries, explore the maze of caves from the 12th Century buried below the vineyards, visit world class museums and learn about history layer by layer. When staying at the Casale, you can leave the high-tech video whirlwind behind and slow the pace down. At night, you can play ping pong, foosball, cards or read a good book. When blissful sleep washes over, you can dream about the interesting places you have seen and the adventures that filled your days.

The Casale Sonnino sleeps up to ten, six to eight persons most comfortably, in five bedrooms and three full baths.

Housekeeping, daily breakfast, laundry service (surcharge for large groups), utilities and wifi are included in the weekly rate. Tour guide and cook service are available upon request. Heat is extra based upon consumption.

Over the past 30 years, we have hosted hundreds of artists, groups of friends and families who come to relax, paint, tour the countryside and hear stories about the Casale, the land and its owners through the last 2000 years. When you come into our home, you are sure to experience a special camaraderie and an unforgettable sojourn in 'La Bella Italia'.

A HIDDEN GEM

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I are experienced travelers. We have used hotels for our base, while touring areas within the vicinity. We thought it was a convenient and easy approach to vacation in a foreign country. Then we heard about Casale Sonnino from Claire the owner of this gorgeous gem.
The difference was like night and day. First this is a Villa, not a hotel room. There were 5 rooms down stairs(kitchen, dinning room, living room, den and tv room) and at least 5 bed rooms. We were greeted by George ( Claire's brother )who runs the day to day operation at the Villa, and taken to our rooms.
Then treated to a beautiful lunch and history of the Villa. George couldn't have been more accommodating. He explained the train service and towns that were in driving distance of our home away from home. Because that is how we all felt at home.
Each morning we awoke to the smell of fresh coffee and breakfast made by the young women at the Villa. Cleaning and laundry service were also done by the same women.
After a long day of site seeing it was a pleasure to come home to Casale Sonnino and relax around the fire with a glass of wine or cup of coffee and talk about what we saw or what to due the next day. George also took us for a tour of the tunnels under the Villa. The history was very interesting.
This is truly a gem that should not be overlooked if you plan on going to Rome. The hospitality and friendly staff make you feel like it's your home and they are there just to help. Not one of us wanted to leave.

THE BEST WAY TO ENJOY YOUR VACATION ( A GEM )

  • 5 of 5
This review is to correct the rating of this Vila. The previous review # 237093 list this property at 3 out of 5. It should have said 5 out of 5 . I have notified home away about this and for some reason the posting didn't change.
I am sorry for this mistake and have spoken to the owner of the Vila to accept my apology. I have asked home away again to correct this mistake and have posted this message to let other travelers know how great this gem is

WARM, FAMILY-FRIENDLY HOSPITALITY.

  • 4 of 5
The family and housekeepers are generous with their time and support. The vineyards and groves are an ideal place for children to run and play, and the outdoor table perfect for adults to sip wine. The women who make breakfast can cook dinner, upon request, which we recommend. The location makes day trips to many wonderful places easy. Definitely rent a car as the trains are tricky. Beautiful home, views and people!

A CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S FOR THE AGES!

A Christmas and New Year's for the ages!
  • 5 of 5
Casale Sonnino is one of the many treasures to which we were treated during a marvelous Christmas week in Rome. We were greated with a festive decorations and a wonderful breakfast upon our arrival and the delicious breakfasts continued throughout our stay. The women who prepared the meals, made the beds, and tidied our rooms each day were warm, delighful and helpful. George is the second treasure - he provided useful information about where and when to visit various places, and was always available to assist. We had Christmas Eve dinner at home and he made sure it was a memorable feast. Frascati, the nearby town is a wonderful place to shop, eat and walk around. We loved spending afternoons there and had some of our best meals there at Pinnochio. New Year's Eve can't be described. Another memorable feast, and the view of Rome from the Casale is unbelievable. At midnight the whole city lit up with fireworks and the floating candles from Frascati made it like a fairytale! My 9 year-old daughter and 11 and 13 year-old nieces were in awe of the spectacle. My sister and I had visited Rome with our parents 30 + years ago and had Mont Blanc for dessert and never forgot it. When we came down from the terrace overlooking the city, George had had a spectacular Mont Blanc made for dessert. It is an easy trip into Rome, though over the holidays, train service is spotty, so we drove in for the most part and had no trouble getting into Rome, or parking there. Highly recommended!

A MEMORABLE HOLIDAY

  • 5 of 5
My son was getting married in Rome and I wanted to follow this special day with a family holiday. There were four children in our party, so I was looking for a house with a hill top location, not far from Rome where the weather would be cooler.
Casale Sonnino was perfect. There was a simmering breeze and enchanting shady gardens.
The beautiful historic house was spacious with a well equipped kitchen. The dilemma was always where to eat, outside in the garden or in the dining room or on the roof terrace. The roof terrace certainly won in the evenings where it was a delight to eat watching the amazing sunsets.
The location proved to be excellent. Monte Porzio Catone was more than adequate, for us there was a bonus of a cafe with a children's play area so we could have a coffee enjoying the stunning views. The local train station at Colle Mattia was only 3 to 4 minutes away in the car and within 30 minutes you were in Rome for just 2 euros! You do need to buy the train tickets from a tabaccheria or from George as we did.
It was a working farm and George had his office next to the kitchen which meant that there were a lot of comings and goings but it also meant that George was on hand if needed. His knowledge of the area was impressive, he shared with us an excellent list of nearby restaurants.
The other staff were friendly and cheery. Titziana and Giovanna cooked us a sumptuous welcome lunch and prepared our breakfasts each morning which was a real treat not to mention laundering our clothes. My grand daughter had her 5th birthday during our stay and without our knowledge they decorated the breakfast table with balloons and bubbles and a delicious birthday cake.
The night before we left we treated ourselves to an evening meal cooked by the staff, it was a memorable meal to end a memorable holiday.

LOVED EXPLORING THE HILL TOWNS

  • 5 of 5
Breathtaking view, warm and welcoming!
The Casale Sonnino was an experience unlike any other, with the vineyards, the feel of true Roman living and the food!!! We stayed for a week and enjoyed the local wine and restaurants, and loved exploring the hill towns around the Casale. We even took the metro into Rome and it was quick and easy, and inexpensive! Highly recommend a trip for families, groups or couples, it's a once in a lifetime way to travel!
