Very nicely appointed Eastern Long Island rental

This house has the charm and comfort of a house that has been enjoyed by other families. The kitchen is large and easy to use - allowed us to easily prepare all meals for 7 days: (1 meal out on day #1; 1 take-out meal on the final day.) The owner was very hospitable and helpful - a very pleasant rental experience. With great weather, it was possible to ride our bikes to get produce, ride or kayak to several local beaches, visit wineries, and most of all, cook, read, and relax.
THE HOUSE is tastefully and adequately furnished (living room sofas are very "mushy," but hopefully, you will not be sitting inside). inside eating area seats 6-8; outdoor wrought iron deck table squeezes 6 - there is xtra room and furniture for guests not seated at the round table. Bedrooms are very comfortable (need bedside lights for both sides of Queen beds) - one bedroom has a small balcony overlooking deck and dock. Beds are very comfortable; bathrooms are in good condition; very adequate linens are supplied by the owner - a big plus, I think. Nice to have a basement with relatively new and working washer & dryer - indoor and outdoor clothes line avail.
THE LOCATION is the best part of renting this house - it is a lovely neighborhood - probably more residents are full-time than summer people. Beautiful wooded backyard leads to private (shallow) dock - inlet leads to Goose Creek and other Peconic Bay tributaries. The neighborhood is not "yuppified" - some homes are quite new and obviously upscale; others are little cottages in various states of repair. Issue is the Southold Park District - many nice beaches are in that district and this home is NOT. If you go to those beaches in a car, be sure to pay the daily charge and park where instructed to avoid a nasty ticket ("Private Beach" near house is used as a boat landing and dog park)
THE COMMUNITY offers all the services you could want as a renter (or full-time resident). People we met were all extraordinarily friendly and welcoming (exception is a man from the Wayside Market - sarcastic, sharp-tongued, and impatient. Eat fish instead - Southold Fish Market is outstanding!) Long Island is very conscious of PRIVACY - become aware of rules where you want to spend recreational and beach time.
We would love to return to the house in the future; the owner does a wonderful job managing this house on behalf of her siblings.
