So smitten was Lord Byron with Dubrovnik that he eulogized the one-time city-state as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. George Bernard Shaw was not slow to praise this superlative inducing paradise either, proclaiming that ‘those who seek paradise on earth should seek it in Dubrovnik.’

Backed by steep limestone crags to the rear and fronted by the sublimely blue waters of the Adriatic, this perfectly preserved gem is encompassed within sturdy medieval walls, which house a cocktail of baroque churches and palaces.

They are called the Elaphite islands because of the Greek word elafos, meaning deer - in ancient times the islands were apparently home to a large deer population. There are actually six islands in the group, and they were particularly famous as the most skillful mariners came from there.

Location cannot be beat

Friends who have traveled to Dubrovnik in the past told me that my lodging options were to either pay a ton of money to stay in a hotel close to the old city, or less money to stay a long way away from the old city. This place proves that is not at all the case. The location is fantastic; less than five minutes walk to just about any place in the old city. The pictures in the listing are spot on, and the place was immaculately clean when we arrived.

I also want to second a previous reviewer's comments about Marijana. Super easy to deal with before hand, and she made making arrangements a breeze. We got to Dubrovnik by bus, and she even came and got us at the bus station and walked us up to the apartment to make sure we didn't get lost.

My friend and I stayed at the Primavera apartment from June 12 to June 19. We went to Dubrovnik for my brother's wedding (he got married at the Sponza Palace) and needless to say, we had an amazing time in Dubrovnik and of course at his wedding!
The apartment is literally at the heart of old town - just a short block and a half away from the main drag (they call it the Stradum.) Keep in mind, old town is strictly pedestrian; you have to walk in from one of the 3 gates. You'll most likely enter from the main Pile gate; in any case, it's about a 5 minute walk from any of these gates.
The apartment is very comfortable and we especially liked the bathtub. The pictures are pretty much right on. There is free wifi in the city, but the reception in the apartment wasn't strong - we ended up using the free pass the owner gave us for the internet cafe around the corner. Frankly, we didn't have time to go on the net - we were having too much fun exploring and enjoying the city!
Marijana, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. She responded to my emails almost right away, which surprised me considering the time difference between California and Croatia.
Make sure to eat at the restaurant right outside the door to the apartment building (I forgot the name of it...), but you can't miss it. I highly recommend you eat there for your first meal! It helped us get situated and the food is to die for! By the way, I hope you like European style pizza; there are pizzerias everywhere in Croatia! Also, make sure to go to the bar/pub called Cold Drinks - and go there during the day (you'll understand why when you go :-)
The only other pointer I can give you is to not miss hiking on the ramparts - you'll have the best views of old town Dubrovnik from the these walls. Just make sure to go first thing in the morning before the large crowds coming from the cruise ships descend upon Dubrovnik (they usually start flooding the old town at around 10 in the morning.)
