About Karen Key Speck
We moved to Orcas Island in 1985. We rented this rental sight unseen when it was an extremely modest, one story house and lived in it for three years. When a man from Austria purchased it, he hired us to manage it as a rental. The only change he made was to change the carpeting. After about 15 years, we had the opportunity to purchase this house from him. We named it Pinecone Cabin and remodeled the downstairs and a few years later added on the second story. We decorated the house with all high quality furnishings with a pinecone theme. Folks always say the house is much larger inside than it looks. So we always smile when they and we joke about it being called a 'cabin'. We are pleased this house has come 'full circle' to us.
Karen Key Speck purchased this house in 2002
Why Karen Key Speck chose Eastsound
We have lived on Orcas Island since 1985 and always wanted to own a rental to share with other visitors.
What makes this house unique
One can enjoy a soak in the outdoor hotub. Turning off its jets, you'll hear only silence. The rental is located conveniently close to town, but is amazingly private with one immediate part-time only neighbor. The views looking north show islands, ocean, mountains and ski resort lights over 40 miles away. The weather presents an ever changing palette. Deer, eagles and raccoons are often on the property. Many have seem Orca whales and dolphins swimming by.
