WHITEFISH CHAIN & OX LAKE - FRONTAGE ON BOTH FROM ONE PROPERTY

Crosslake House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8, maximum allowed)

This property is located between Ox Lake and Loon Lake of the Whitefish Chain. The lake home faces Ox Lake.

We have docks on both lakes so that you can have easy boating access to either. Co. Rd. 66 passes through the west side of this large property. Ox Lake is a 254 acre, 72 ft deep, extreme clear lake with no public access.

You can can use our private boat launch to access it's pristine beauty and fantastic fishing for bass and pan fish. You can also use our kayak, canoe, paddleboat, or rowboat to explore the lake. Ox has a pine studded island that eagles are currently nesting on - bring your camera!

From the Loon lake dock, you can explore the 13 lakes of the Whitefish Chain with its bars, restaurants, and water sports.

Back at the lake home you can gather around the 17 ft tall, fieldstone fireplace in the great room or enjoy the peaceful outdoors on more than 800 sq. ft. of decks. The new lakeside deck is 58 ft wide and has views you will never forget. The lakeside firepit is also a favorite spot.

There are 7 sliding glass doors and lots of windows in this 3000 sq. ft home so you can enjoy nature from the inside too! The 4 season porch is a wonderful room for casual meals or curling up with a book. The large master bedroom (14X18) has it own sliding glass door to the deck. All bedrooms have queen sized beds. Ask about special fishing guide rates for renters!

In the early 80's I visited the Whitefish Chain area and decided that I wanted to spend as much of my free time there as possible. My favorite lakes were Trout and Ox lakes because they were the clearest lakes in the area. I bought my 1st cabin in 1982. It faced Ox Lake and also had a dock on Loon lake. Ox lake has no public access so it is still very pristine and is loaded with fish. I also kept a boat on Loon lake so I could enjoy everything that the Whitefish Chain had to offer.

The Owner purchased this house in 1993

Having had a cabin on Ox Lake for many years, I decided that I wanted to build a lake home. I waited 5 years for the perfect piece of land to become available. It is a 450 ft deep lot with Ox Lake on one end and Loon Lake on the other. Route 66 runs through the Loon Lake end of the land. The home was built facing Ox Lake to enjoy the large Norway Pines, Eagles, and serenity offer by that lake. My dock on Loon Lake gives me access to the Whitefish Chain and all of it's fun.

You will be amazed by the clarity of Ox Lake. It's like boating on an aquarium. If you choose to, you can canoe to the north end of the lake, portage over the beaver dam, & you are on Little Ox Lake. This is a small 60 ft deep lake with NO CABINS! Great fishing in a wilderness setting. You have free use of our canoe and boat launch. On the Loon lake side you have dockage and use of a boat lift that will fit boats to 17 ft. This property is large, beautiful and very quiet.

4 YEARS STRAIGHT AND STILL FANTASTIC

  • 5 of 5
We have had a group of 6-8 family and friends stay here for the past 4 years and everyone continues to be impressed. As others have said, Dick is available when you need him and is nowhere to be found when you want your privacy. There are ample ammenities in the home and when it comes to grilling out or having a fish fry. We have never boated on the Whitefish Chain while staying here, only boating on Ox Lake. That lake is fantastic for fishing with amazing water clarity. For those who eat fish, they taste very clean and we have filleted plenty of fish to take home and to give to others. You can catch really good size bass and sunnies right off the dock, but we bring our boat up and catch a lot of largemouth bass and for the past 3 years have pulled in a northern between 8.5-9 lbs. You can't ask for a better rental property and Dick is the best any of our group has ever worked with.
The only thing that would put it over the top would be to have a newer TV with an HDMI hookup so we could use our Apple TV or computer to play movies on a rainy day. ;-)
Thanks again Dick for another wonderful year and more memories!

AN UNBELIEVABLE VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I and our sons, daughter and daughter-in-law spent two incredible weeks at this property this summer. The property is exceptional and exceeded the posted description! The owner was absolutely wonderful--attentive to our needs with a brief orientation when we arrived and then available as needed throughout our stay. The entire family loves to fish and everyday we did so with lots of action. It remindied us of the fishing contests we had when the kids were little--only now, the fish were bigger and more plentiful! This place was perfect, nestled into a quiet and serene setting but close enough to all the action in Crosslake. The lake is quiet and often we had it to ourselves. We ran, hiked or biked daily. We golfed at five different area golf courses and the gals had their share of fun shopping the area boutiques. When we weren't dining in or having a fish-fry, we walked to one of several area establishments for dinner or drinks. We would definitely recommend to others. We plan on return trips.

RELAXING WEEK!

  • 5 of 5
Our family (2 teenage daughters 15 & 13) stayed at this lake home from Aug 23 to Aug 30. This property is as great as the description. It has everything you need to relax and make your stay comfortable. The owner lives next door and is available, if needed, to answer questions but isn't intrusive and is a great individual.

We brought our boat and docked it on the Loon Lake side (full access to the chain) without problems or issues. You do have a short walk and have to cross a county highway (neither of which are a big deal) to get to the Loon Lake dock. The channel from Loon to Island is shallow but as long as your draft is 20 inches or less you'll be fine. If you have an opportunity, use the canoe, kayak or row boat that's made available to explore Ox Lake. It's quiet and a trip around the island will not disappoint. We had several bonfires and used the grill often. The home has two tv's, neither of which were turned on for the entire week (imagine that with two teenagers).

This was our first experience on the Whitefish chain and we'll be back on the chain and at this home.

5 CONSECUTIVE YEARS AND COUNTING

  • 5 of 5
Our family (4 adults and 3 children) just completed the fifth annual visit to this home and we can't wait for #6. We echo the raves of other reviewers regarding the perfectness of this location for a family vacation, especially the comments about the owner and his attention to the details of the property and the quality of his guests' experience. The pontoon sunset cruise he offers is lovely, and for a very reasonable rate he will take you (including kids) fishing as well. It is hard to imagine finding a more ideal lake-in-the-woods location which is why we have never tried.

IDEAL PROPERTY AND OWNER

  • 5 of 5
This place was the perfect place to stay! The home - not a cabin - is wonderfully designed and equipped, well kept, and very comfortable . It lacks nothing for a relaxing stay. The property has privacy and a fantastic view of the Ox Lake in a serene setting. The dock is a great place to chill and go for a swim. Watching the morning sunrise from the lower steps down by the dock is a must - you don't even have to look at the horizon, but can just watch the day start in the glass top imaging of the lake itself. It's an easy canoe paddle to the eagle's nest on the nearby island.
The setting of this home allows you to escape your daily work life, but if you need to "connect" periodically, you can do so through the wi-fi and TV. The town of Crosslake is a quaint little town but has all you will need - grocery store, hardware store, some good nearby restaurants when you don't feel like making your own meal, and jet ski/pontoon rentals for use on the Whitefish chain of lakes. You get the best of most everything staying here. We spent days boating on the chain of lakes ( of which Ox Lake is not connected and part), and then "retired" at the end of the day to enjoy the peacefulness and quiet of Ox Lake.
The beds and furniture in the house are clean and comfortable, as are the 3 bathrooms. There is not a bad room in the house. Nobody will feel cheated with their accommodations. Every home has it's idiosyncrasies and this house has one that became a standing joke during our stay. The stainless steel refrigerator has side-by-side split doors. When closing one door, be sure to also hold the other door closed, otherwise it will open slightly upon closing the other half. I can't count how many times we were summoned to the kitchen by the "door open" chimes on the refrigerator.
Dick, the owner, is a heck of a person. So friendly. So nice. So helpful. So informative. So respectful of your time and privacy, but never out of contact. Great sense of humor. We accepted his invite for a "happy hour" cruise on his pontoon, where he shared his knowledge about the history of the Lake, saw the sights, and drank some wine.
We have stayed in numerous VRBO properties over the past 5 years all around the U.S, and this one is in the top two. This will be our first choice when returning to the Crosslake area!

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!

  • 5 of 5
We rented this beautiful lake home for a week last October. It is on a small private lake with access to a much larger chain of lakes. We loved the quiet solitude and had great fun catching the biggest bluegills ever! Dick, the owner, lives next door and was always willing to help but was never intrusive.
It was one of the best vacation weeks we have ever had! Fishing or relaxing during the day and talks around the fire pit at night.
