Retired Professor and Dean

Roger Jenkins purchased this chateau / country house in 1990

I was born in this small rural community and have been privileged to travel around the world with my work. I have found no place in the world I think is overall more enjoyable and impressive than the mountains, streams, and quiet natural beauty of this community.

Because Penland School has, over the years, spawned so many artists who have relocated to this area, there are literally hundreds of artists located within an hour of the property.

With the most impressive mountain views from the front porch while sitting in a red rocking chair, you find yourself wrapped in natural beauty on this private, gated, 27 acre farm. Not many places provide the unique opportunity to walk from your bed to a beautiful trout stream on property and land a 18 inch brown trout within minutes, then, In season, you walk a few hundred hards and enjoy blueberries, rasberries, and blackberries.

We just returned to North Georgia after a wonderful stay at the Red Roof Farmhouse. Even though we live in the mountains of North Georgia, there is just something special about the Western North Carolina Mountains, and this area is no exception. Very rural, very peaceful, wonderful people – just an exceptionally warm and cozy place to be. The farmhouse met all of our expectations – immaculate, cozy, all the amenities you could ask for and plenty of room, not to mention the incredible views. We made easy day trips to Asheville and Boone and just had a wonderful time. We would not hesitate to make another trip to this wonderful place!

Our family of four stayed at Red Roof Farm house at the end of December.
Stunning views, peaceful location, rushing streams...House is immaculately clean, stocked with thoughtful amenities, fully equipped kitchen... all one has to so is bring one's cloths, personal toiletries and groceries you want to cook and you'll be all set!! We took the kids hiking up Appalachian trail from Carver's Gap, which is a scenic drive not far from the farm house. Bakersville is a charming one-traffic-light town with friendly locals. Owner Roger is most kind and generous type of owner who wish to provide the best for his guests. I could go on and on, but you'll have to go for yourself to experience the place. We will be back!!

Owner's Response: These guests were gracious, thoughtful, and took superb care of the home and its furnishings.
Would welcome them back with open arms! Thanks.

It was a girls weekend and we had a blast! The day we arrived they had snow on the mountain right across the road from them. Every morning we sat on the front porch and drake coffee. It was beautiful. Everything you needed was there.
As we left we all felt so renewed and ready to go back to the real world. Very relaxing. The owner brought us home made brownies that were the best ever. We rode through the mountains to see the beautiful trees. We did not see a bear but did see deer. Lots of mountain places are convenient to this location, also we did a full day of shopping. This is my second time to stay here and will do it again as often as I can.

Red Roof Farmhouse Review

My 3 sisters and I chose this property for our annual fall reunion. The listing is just as described and more. The property was clean and the appointments in the home are well above average. It is a rural location with beautiful scenery and stellar accommodations within driving distance of Asheville, Waynesville to the west and Blowing Rock and Boone to the east and the Blue Ridge Parkway to the South. I would suggest Maggie's Galley in Waynesville, NC (1.5 hour drive) and Little Switzerland on the Blue Ridge Parkway (45 minute drive) as dining suggestions. We also ordered from the local take-out diner in Buladean and it was delicious. The property owner and his brother are very accommodating and were helpful with every question. All in all a perfect weekend. I would recommend this property to everyone I know.

Owner's Response: We could not have asked for more gracious and appreciative guests who treated the home and property as if it were their own. Thanks so much.
