Historic old house(Katrina survivor) just off 2nd Street(actually a block closer to the beach than the wonderful 2nd street area).
This is an old-fashioned getaway where the main purpose is to relax. The house is located in the historic Second Street area.
While this area was heavily damaged during Katrina---much of the neighborhood charm is coming back with the construction of bright new homes and beautiful landscaping.
There are several great restaurants in walking distance including Salute and the rebuilt Chimneys restaurant. Also, the beautiful Almanett House Jazz Club is one block away---you can see it from the front porch. I've listed their websites next to the map below---take a look.
This house is perfect for morning walks, sipping coffee and cocktails at sunset.
The covered deck is a spacious 10 x 26 feet with 2 outdoor ceiling fans. This is the bottom floor unit of a 3 unit building. From the deck is an expansive view of the Mississippi Sound/Gulf of Mexico.
Ryan House is a very quiet and peaceful setting and beats the heck out of staying in a Motel!

I'm back at work today...sitting at my desk and wishing I was still sitting on the big front porch at Ryan House! Your home was perfect for our needs. It was cozy, but still felt spacious enough for our family of five to spread out a little bit. We had everything we needed to prepare several meals in the kitchen. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and beautifully appointed. Every detail, from the plantings outside to the paintings on the walls, was lovely! Thank you for allowing us to use your beautiful home!

We have owned this property more than a decade---it's named after our first born daughter Ryan. Ryan House, has a lot of charm and history. The house was originally built in the 30's and has weathered the 2 worst Hurricanes in U.S. history, Camille and Katrina(Andrew for Florida folks). We have renovated the house twice---one time was planned and the second was following Katrina. We have saved a lot of the character of the structure and added modern amenities. The main feature we love is the porch and those endless breezes.
The Owner purchased this house in 2000
The Gulf Coast is the best place to be. From New Orleans to Destin, there is always something to see and new discoveries to be made. This location is central to all of the exciting things on the coast. The casinos are fun-the beaches, boating and local cuisine can't be beat.
The main benefit of being on the coast is to relax. We are across the street from the beach. This means you are only a boat ride away from exploring Ship Island. Island View Casino is just a few minutes away offering a great buffet. We also like the outlet mall just up Highway 49.
Close to everything, especially the gulf coast
SO much more room than a motel/hotel & more economical
Great vanity lighting & generous counter space in bathroom.
Large updated kitchen with a TV on the wall. AWESOME!
Great AC & quiet, ceiling fans everywhere
We very much enjoyed our stay. It was a great, short break in our long journey from AZ to meet family at Disney World & then travel on to Daytona Beach during our August vacation.
Your home was another gold star in our VRBO experiences.
Thanks so much,
My family and I - total of 4 - just returned from a 4 night stay at Ryan House and had a great time. I found the home clean, tastefully decorated and very bright and cheerful. It was still cool and we weren't able to go to the beach very much, but that seemed not to be a problem - we still had a great view from the front porch. I recommend this home to anyone that wants a great view, great breeze and relaxation. I WOULD rent this home again - the owners were very nice and easy to deal with. Thank you so much for sharing your home with my family!
I just returned from a 5 night stay in the house and I must say, I had a hard time leaving. My mother never wanted to leave each day we were there. She felt so relaxed. The pictures speak exactly to how beautiful and cozy the house was. It was so tastfully decorated and I cannot say enough about the beauty of the big porch with all of the surrounding plants. I could have taken the hardwood floors with me when I left. Even though the remnants of Katrina were still around, the beauty of the house overshadowed that. There is a wonderful Italian restaurant Salute within a block of the house. There were other people above us but I barely knew they were there. The owners are very nice and easy to work with and I recommend this house to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation.
We just returned from a 5 night stay at this wonderful little piece of heaven. It has so much to offer! It was peaceful, very clean, tastefully decorated, and is situated in a great location. We loved the layout and the porch was awesome for enjoying the views and the breezes. The owners are very pleasant and easy to work with. I've been spreading the word about this marvelous place and look forward to our next stay.
P.S. - Salute serves really good Italian food and is within walking distance.
My sister and I rented this house so that we could be within walking distance of the Gulfport Music Festival, Gulfport Harbor. Everything about this house was PERFECT! We were within a block and a half of the harbor, walking distance to local restrauants and the beach. When we were not at the festival we were enjoying the front porch (constant breeze, wonderful landscaping and view of the gulf). The house was well decorated, spacious, very clean and had everything that we needed for our stay. There were renters in the upstairs as well and we hardly knew they were there. We would not have changed a thing about it. We were sad when we had to pack and leave! The owners were prompt with their response to our questions prior to renting. The price of this rental, for what you get, is an AMAZING bargin! Don't miss it! We will certainly be renting it again for our next "staycation".
I should mention, for the benefit of others, one challenge, parking during big events. Parking is on the street in front of the house. It would NEVER be a concern unless it was during a huge event like this festival when the public is allowed to park along any side street. We did not move our cars the first day but did the second and ended up having to park a block away.
Thank you for opening your home! We will be coming back!
Ryan House is a lovely home, with a great location: the beach, several restaurants and the Gulfport Transit Center are all within blocks. Yes, you can still see the remenants of Katrina in the neighborhood, but you can also see the love and care that is going into the revitalization of the area. We enjoyed Salute, the Italian restaurant about 2 1/2 blocks away, and were lucky enough to have booked our vacation during "Cruisin' the Coast." We could have sat on the front porch and watched the cars, but it was just as easy to walk to Beach Blvd. to get a front row seat. (But do take the opportunity to sit on the porch and have your morning coffee, or an evening iced tea!)
We loved that the House was so centrally located, allowing for day trips into Biloxi and New Orleans. Don't want to drive? Check out the bus schedules on the bookshelf, since trolleys and buses run through Gulfport and to Biloxi very regularly. Take the trolley to Biloxi, then catch the Casino Hopper.
Also check out the Gulfport Outlet Mall located on Highway 49 just off I-10. Just remember that you have to get all those purchases back into your luggage or car trunk.
Best of all, the owners of the house are great! We had some minor maintenence problems that were addressed without disruption to our vacation.
