SECOND TIME IS A CHARM

  • 5 of 5
We had such a great time last year that our same group returned this year. Again, we had such a wonderful time. Melissa added a beach pass this year, which just added even more to our stay. It was wonderful, the views are stunning and peaceful. Having a private road that is quiet and safe is so great for the kids and adults alike. With the beach pass we were able to go to any state beach, so we visited three. We discovered farmer's markets, fresh veggie stands and fish markets. Dave's coffee is great on Route 1 and the Mini-Super. The kitchen is fantastic for meals, and having your early morning coffee while staring at the views from the kitchen is just amazing. There is ample cookware, ample seating for our group of 11, plenty of bathrooms and space. The deck is huge and the dock is great for boating and lake great for kayaking and clamming. The outside shower is a lifesaver after going to the beach. I was very sad when we had to leave, I would love to stay forever. Again, thank you Melissa for opening your home to us.

"FAMILY HOUSE" SAYS IT ALL!

"Family House" says it all!
  • 5 of 5
The decision to rent this house for two weeks was made one winter afternoon, somewhat hastily, in fear that another house that would accommodate our family would be difficult to find. My parents, who are in their mid 80’s and living in Arizona, were hoping to escape the mid-summer desert heat and rent a space that would accommodate visits from their four children/spouses and their 8 grandchildren (plus two significant others.) My mother got the green light from two of us and within hours of her initial internet search the deposit was made. There was some skepticism about the decision. “You can’t swim off the dock?” “No air conditioning?” The photos and description made the place sound ideal so we tried to keep an open mind. We were very pleased to discover that the Hawk’s Nest was everything we were hoping it would be and more!
As soon as we arrived we immediately felt like we were “home.” The natural wood and tile, and the eclectic décor gives the house a very comfortable, warm feel. Everything we needed was available – the only thing lacking was of course the A.C. but the open, airy space and a nice breeze off the pond kept different rooms cool throughout the day. We were grateful for the box fans we had brought with us during daylight hours in the kitchen and living room, but once the sun began to set the entire house was cool and comfortable. The space itself was wonderful. On Saturday we had our entire family of 20 people together, ranging in ages from 14 – 87 and we never felt crowded, yet we were all able to interact – we made good use of the kitchen, dining room, living room and deck. Throughout the two weeks, we four “children” and our families came and went, overlapping on occasion. The five bedrooms and four bathrooms afforded a comfortable stay for all. The master bedroom, being at the far end of the house, provided a quiet haven for “Grandma and Grandpa” while the children and adult grandchildren enjoyed catching up with each other late into the night.
The property is beautiful – safe and secluded and teeming with wildlife. We watched rabbits, woodchucks, fishers and chipmunks in the yard. Egrets, herons, Mallards, Canada geese, swans (with signets), osprey and kingfishers entertained us in the pond. My parents took a walk each morning on the quiet roads of the compound and were delighted to discover a book sale at the local church across the street. Everyone they crossed paths with was extremely friendly and welcomin

VACATION OASIS!

  • 4 of 5
What a perfect spot for a large family getaway. Plenty to do whether it's boating, fishing, kayaking, playing tennis or golfing right out your back door.
Beautiful views of Ninigret pond and the golf course from a large deck which gets plenty of sunshine. Nice breeze off the water kept the house relatively comfortable even with the heat of summer.
Home is situated on private land owned for many years by the Arnold family. There is a lot of history and nostalgia to enjoy on this property and home.
Melissa was very accommodating and available for any questions. She is very knowledgeable about the area and things to do.
The house had plenty of room for family and guests including the five bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
We enjoyed all aspects of our vacation spent at the hawks nest and will likely return for another visit!

PEACEFUL BLISS

  • 5 of 5
I want to sincerely thank Melissa and her family for providing such a peaceful retreat from the outside world. We arrived with five kids ranging from 3-13, five adults (that became six when another visitor came) and a dog in tow. There are three separate wings in the house, which provided plenty of space for everyone to have their own rooms. My stepdaughter and her friend loved the loft, which was bright and airy. My husband and I were in the bedroom at the front of the house with a King Bed. It was wonderful, with a lovely breeze at night. We brought fans from home, which helped the seabreeze cool off the house. The kitchen is large with wonderful views of the salt pond through the sliding glass doors. I was up early every day and enjoyed the peaceful views with my coffee. The dog loved the large weeping willow tree at the side of the house, and slept in the shade quite often. The Kayaks were a wonderful addition as well. Our family "unplugged" for the entire week, and didn't miss it one bit. The road is very private and surprisingly large. The kids were able to explore the area on their bikes, as well as the golf course. The neighbors were all extremely nice with great suggestions of what to do in the area. The Mini-Super down the road is a great place to find fresh fish, meat and wonderful desserts. Thanks, Melissa for the tip! My brother and law and the kids went clamming, and came back with what must have been 15 lbs of mussels and 7 lbs of clams, just be prepared to spend a couple of hours cleaning them. the house was very quiet and the kids slept late, even with the noise from the toddler and breakfast making. We went to the beach as well, but be prepared to pay $20 per weekday and $28 on the weekend day to park. However, we discovered that after 4pm you don't have to pay to get into the beach. My husband doesnt like the beach and he was content to look at the views, play games and grill to his heart's delight. The only bad thing about the trip was that we had to come home. We will definitely return. It is a fantastic home, great for adults and kids alike.

A MOTHERS DREAM VACATION

  • 5 of 5
Having "kids" who live in the UK, it is not often that we ALL get to be together as a complete family unit. Well . . . this amazing place not only allowed all 9 of us to be together but share in making some awesome memories. We had absolutely amazing weather in which to enjoy the wonders of nature all around us . . . From just sitting on the deck soaking in the sun to kayaking to playing on the awesome golf course to biking the serene countryside to walking . . . whew! The list goes on!

Our sons enjoy cooking and they found every pot/pan/kitchen utensil needed in the well stocked kitchen, to make some fabulous meals! Fresh Lobsters - $10 apiece, found in a little market right up the road! Food was awesome and my fondest memory, to have the nine of us, all gathered around the table, sharing our day.

We found the beach to be quite close, but were shocked that we had to pay $20 for parking to get on the beach! Even though the weather was in the 90's that day, the water still was too cold for swimming.

We found the place to be exactly as advertised, if not more. We found the neighbors and all we met, to be so friendly and helpful! Our sons (ones who live in the UK) kept thanking me for finding the "perfect spot". Even our 2 grandchildren (ages 22 & 23) enjoyed themselves and didn't seem to get "too bored". lol

I would highly recommend this place if you just want a relaxing place to be with family and basically, 'get away from it all.' We did eat out a couple of times and found the Ocean Mist Restaurant/Bar (about 10 minutes from the house) to have excellent food.

As I stated in the Review Title . . . This truly was a Mom's dream to be with ALL her kids / grandkids - under one roof - for a whole week. Thank you Eagles Nest, for allowing this to happen!
