The house was very comfortable for our large group. Melissa let us in a little early due to our wedding ceremony scheduled for 5:30. The kitchen was well equipped.Almost everything else you would need, was provided. The setting was very peaceful overlooking the pond. We went to the local beaches, Block Island, Mohegan Sun, and visited many local restaurants.
the perfect spot for our family
to gather, relax, enjoy the beach, a variety of water sports, successful clamming, great food at area restaurants, as well as suppers on the deck, and a wonderful family reunion.
I recommend Hawks Nest without reservation.
The house, the pond, the land and the people in this place were perfect for us. We first visited in September and decided that we would be married in this beautiful, serene setting. We spent hours on the deck just looking out over the pond, watching the swans and listening to all the birds.
The house was clean and comfortable, perfect for our family and wedding guests. The golf course is beautiful and very challenging. We enjoyed walking to the shops, restaurants and beaches nearby, but most of all we sat on the deck and took in the pond. Kayaking around the pond was a wonderful discovery. We were so happy with our experience there that we've reserved the same two weeks next June.
We loved our week on Ninigret Pond! Melissa was a terrific and attentive host, the house is comfortable and well-appointed, the property is amazing, and the whole area was the perfect playground for our family. Thank you, Melissa!
We had such a great time last year that our same group returned this year. Again, we had such a wonderful time. Melissa added a beach pass this year, which just added even more to our stay. It was wonderful, the views are stunning and peaceful. Having a private road that is quiet and safe is so great for the kids and adults alike. With the beach pass we were able to go to any state beach, so we visited three. We discovered farmer's markets, fresh veggie stands and fish markets. Dave's coffee is great on Route 1 and the Mini-Super. The kitchen is fantastic for meals, and having your early morning coffee while staring at the views from the kitchen is just amazing. There is ample cookware, ample seating for our group of 11, plenty of bathrooms and space. The deck is huge and the dock is great for boating and lake great for kayaking and clamming. The outside shower is a lifesaver after going to the beach. I was very sad when we had to leave, I would love to stay forever. Again, thank you Melissa for opening your home to us.
The decision to rent this house for two weeks was made one winter afternoon, somewhat hastily, in fear that another house that would accommodate our family would be difficult to find. My parents, who are in their mid 80’s and living in Arizona, were hoping to escape the mid-summer desert heat and rent a space that would accommodate visits from their four children/spouses and their 8 grandchildren (plus two significant others.) My mother got the green light from two of us and within hours of her initial internet search the deposit was made. There was some skepticism about the decision. “You can’t swim off the dock?” “No air conditioning?” The photos and description made the place sound ideal so we tried to keep an open mind. We were very pleased to discover that the Hawk’s Nest was everything we were hoping it would be and more!
As soon as we arrived we immediately felt like we were “home.” The natural wood and tile, and the eclectic décor gives the house a very comfortable, warm feel. Everything we needed was available – the only thing lacking was of course the A.C. but the open, airy space and a nice breeze off the pond kept different rooms cool throughout the day. We were grateful for the box fans we had brought with us during daylight hours in the kitchen and living room, but once the sun began to set the entire house was cool and comfortable. The space itself was wonderful. On Saturday we had our entire family of 20 people together, ranging in ages from 14 – 87 and we never felt crowded, yet we were all able to interact – we made good use of the kitchen, dining room, living room and deck. Throughout the two weeks, we four “children” and our families came and went, overlapping on occasion. The five bedrooms and four bathrooms afforded a comfortable stay for all. The master bedroom, being at the far end of the house, provided a quiet haven for “Grandma and Grandpa” while the children and adult grandchildren enjoyed catching up with each other late into the night.
The property is beautiful – safe and secluded and teeming with wildlife. We watched rabbits, woodchucks, fishers and chipmunks in the yard. Egrets, herons, Mallards, Canada geese, swans (with signets), osprey and kingfishers entertained us in the pond. My parents took a walk each morning on the quiet roads of the compound and were delighted to discover a book sale at the local church across the street. Everyone they crossed paths with was extremely friendly and welcomin
Ninigret Pond is the most pristine and least crowded coastal area in South County!
