The powdery black sparkling volcanic sand beach awaits you....
We loved the proximity to world class surfing spots: such as Sunzal,El Zonte. Conchalio to name a few as well of acces to many nice restaurants nearby, the enclosed gated community provides privacy and security 24 hours a day.
We stayed with 2 families at this House. The house is in great condition, super clean. The pool, outdoor shower, and outdoor dining space are just what we needed. The "private" beach down a series of steep steps with Iguanas running through the brush was a great way to reach nature quickly. The cost is on the high-end of what you can find in El Salvador but you get great value... having an in-house assistant for cooking, cleaning, and advice is a great luxury. The bedrooms are clean, the beds are great and they all have separate air-con units. There are great surf options about 2km east and west! There is an upscale restaurant nearby, you can buy tortillas off the street a few km away... but then retreat to the safety (armed guards) and comfort of the gated community. Normally we stay quite a bit lower on the price/luxury scale but for integrating some travellers new to Central america and having the softest possible landing from the us..this was a great spot.. only trouble is moving on.. other places were a let down after this!

This is a beautiful and comfortable home away from home on the Salvadoran coast. The house is clean and well appointed, with a nice pool to relax by. There is a walk down steps to get to the pretty, black sand private beach that is part of the community. A little steep climbing back up, but great exercise! I highly recommend this home as a great place to bring the family to relax and enjoy the fine fresh seafood (and surfing) in the area.
My family has been to at least 10 countries in south and central America over the past 15 years, but this holiday to El Salvador has been the most relaxing and enjoyable one. The holiday home is so lovely constructed and designed that you fall in love on first sight - the pool, the deck to see the morning rise, and the lunch place. It was so lovely to be able walk down to the beach within 5 min and enjoyed the peaceful morning swim. The owner, Martha, is extremely helpful and provided everything we needed. Most importantly, the lovely and kind lady who comes to the house everyday to prepare such wonderful meals for us to try. She has made our holiday very special. To sum up. Two reasons why this is the most relaxing holiday my family even had (1) Mathar's house - a true heaven on earth (2) the lovely cook, a local lady who has helped us to integrate our holiday with the local life. We went shopping with her to morning markets for fish and veg to plan the dinner. Another highlight of the holiday was the opportunity to visit a local church, invited by our lovely cook, to participate her church's Christmas eve celebrating with lovely music through which you could truly appreciated the kindness and happiness of those local people lived nearby. We will definitely come back this place with friends
There were six of us, three couples, that stayed in Marta's wonderful home in Xandau. Each couple had their own room with private bathroom. There is also a comfortable trundle in the living room with a community bathroom. The pool is beautiful and cleaned daily. The stairs down to the beach are right in front of the house and lead down to a rocky beach with a surf break that wasn't too strong when we were there. There is a community pool down by the beach front that is large and made for a great change of scene when leaving paradise. It was about a 15 minute drive into La Libertad, where the main grocery store is, and a 7 minute drive into El Tunco. When we needed to rent a car, it was brought to us. When we needed to get picked up from the airport, done. Marta provided every resource that was needed included a cell phone with all important contact numbers. With the wifi we were able to stay connected as well. Xanadu is as it connotes, a paradise. Highly suggested!
We were a group of women who were doing humanitarian work. This was the perfect place to home to every night. Jesse cooked us a wonderful breakfast and looked after us. Marta even recommended a driver for us who was sooooo helpful. Thank you for a wonderful experience
Overall experience, Our family & friends really enjoyed and very satisfied and exceeded our expectations of the service provided by the owner. The house is well maintained, clean and the view of the beach is spectacular. Martha's staff Jessi is the best she cooked very good food for us. We dine twice at Beto's restaurant and the food is excellent plus the view of the ocean is awesome. I highly recommend this place to everyone that needs a week to relax and enjoy the waves of the beach.
Marta was extremely helpful throughout the whole booking process and came through for us with a ride from the airport which was extremely stress reliving as it was our first time to El Salvador.
We arrived in the evening and Marta was there to greet us and show us around the home. She had the groceries we requested in the fridge which made the next morning wonderful as we didn't have to leave for breakfast.
All the bedrooms have air conditioning and ours had a comfortable bed. The kitchen is well equipped. The living area has comfortable furniture and many English channels on the TV. The WIFI works great too.
We peeled ourselves away from the pool to do some sightseeing, but it was hard to leave. The pool was great and the scenery around it was beautiful.
The beach is very private and many times we found ourselves alone. It is a walk down but you can always drive to the beach too if you are not up to the walk.
We did go to some restaurants for dinner; Betos was by far our favorite. Very close to the house and the ocean front dining was beautiful. Overall Jesse, the cook/housekeeper, provided our favorite meals. She is very accommodating and although our Spanish is horrible she was always patient with us.
If you choose to book this home you will not be disappointed. Make sure to check out the fish dock in La Libertad...it is amazing and if you can have Jesse there each day to cook at least one meal for you and try her sister/mothers pupusas (they are delicious!!!!).
