I bought and lived in this wonderful house from 2007 to 2010, and during that time went through the house carefully - updating and upgrading all aspects. I had the pool put in and did a major landscaping, and I selected all the furniture personally, by exploring import boutiques and carefully selecting various pieces over time.
Unfortunately, I had to move to the mainland for work, so I have been renting the home to a family for the last three years. Now they are moving on, and I am looking for new tenants.
Currently, I live and work in Ashland Oregon, where I am an administer at the local university.
I love the home and think it is a very special place, someday (6 years?), I hope to return and live there again!
Here is a (work) picture of me.....
Alissa Arp purchased this house in 2007
"We had a wonderful time and Kailua is a neat little place, I do really hope to be able to go back! The house itself is beautiful and love the layout, and everything was clean and comfortable! The kids loved the ocean, pool, and the lizards, they started to call out "mango" when one fell on the deck or splashed in the pool. Our favorite beach for boogie boarding ended up being Malaekahana State Park, which we went back to 4 times then Lanikai Beach was the next favorite. We did take a boat tour and hiked Diamond Head, did some other hikes, but really enjoyed exploring the island. My kids loved hunting for stuff on the beaches, we think we came across a little baby burr fish, it was about the size of a marble! Again thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us."
"Dad, next time can we stay for 20 days instead of 10 days?" "Dad, you've got to buy that house,"
These two statements from a nine-year-old member of our family group offer a good summary review of our stay at this house in July 2013.
We had carefully researched the many descriptions and photos of houses available for rent in Kailua, Oahu. We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and we wanted a house that would bring us together with our two sons and their families. We sought a place that all could easily mingle, but that offered enough room so all could pursue individual activities and have privacy for sleeping. A pool would be a benefit.
We choose well. As our vacation went on, my wife kept saying, "This was just the right place for us." It started the first night when she looked up to see one of our sons and two daughters-in-law all busily moving about the kitchen. They prepared a lot a great meals in the well designed kitchen and with the help of the outside grill.
Meanwhile the kids were in and out of the pool and or playing video games together and other family members lounged on the lanai or on the comfortable indoor couches. An extra bonus was the falling mangoes. The kids enjoyed the mango hunt. Tree-ripened mangos are wonderful and the number recovered from the deck or pool daily were sufficient for all.
We had three cars so that each group in our family could individual opportunities to move about the island, as well as the option to be together. All the activities of the Island are easily accessible from Kailua, a great base for a Hawaii vacation.
Juggling three cars in a limited parking area at the house was a challenge, as was backing up a long drive. I left this task to my son, who was the expert., This most definitely is not a deal breaker. Every one of us would whole heartedly recommend a stay here, especially for a family group such as ours.
We had such a great time at this house. Everything was neat and clean and facilities were well maintained. The beds were so comfortable. We had so happy dinner at the lanai with BBQ grill. Lanikai Beach was gorgeous and I could get there easily. However, for my mother-in-law, children and my pregnant wife, we had to go to Lanikai beach by car.
My kids were so happy in the pool everyday. We would definitely stay here again.
Five grandchildren, ages 5 to 18, and four school systems, locales ranging from Colorado to Georgia to South Carolina to the mountains of Western North Carolina. For the first time in years, all our spring breaks coincided, providing a rare opportunity for a family vacation. Everyone wanted to do something "big," and Hawaii was the first choice. When we asked friends and relatives who were either residents or former residents of Oahu, where we should stay, they all recommended the Kailua area and nearby Lanikai Beach, reputedly one of the world's most beautiful. After checking out several vacation rental sites, we all agreed that this house would provide the ideal space for our family group and that the furnishings and surroundings were both luxurious. When we arrived, we were not disappointed. In fact, the photographs on the web site didn't do justice to the house, pool, and gardens. Everything was clean and meticulously organized, and the thoughtful housekeeper had provided enough coffee to get us rolling on our first morning, hastening the recovery from a 10-hour nonstop flight. The owner was lovely to deal with--responding quickly to questions about the house and the area--and the pool caretaker and gardener were most considerate, the former quickly responding to a question about pool temperature and the latter taking care to work efficiently around our activities. The location of the house couldn't have been better--supermarket and shopping 10 minutes away, Costco 25 minutes, easy walk to the beach and easy drives to others nearby. The house was truly perfect for us; since we didn't have nearly enough time to explore Hawaii, we hope to return--and the house on Lanipo Drive would again be our first choice of residences.
We had such a great time during our week at this lovely home. Everything was neat and clean and we had so much room. The grounds were beautiful. The beds were comfortable. We were grateful for use of the grill and the beach supplies. Lanikai Beach was gorgeous although a bit far to walk for my senior parents. We loved the pool -- my son thought it was even better than the beach. We struggled a bit to figure out how to heat the hot tub, but it was great when it was hot. We enjoyed going to the Polynesian Cultural Center as well as a short hike to nearby Muanawili Falls. Kailua is a nice town that had everything we needed. The owner was very responsive to our inquiries and quick to return our deposit. We would definitely stay here again.
We arrived at about noon on October 5, 2012. House keeper was still cleaning from the previous renters. She asked us if we didn't mind coming back in a half hour so she could finish up. She was super nice and friendly. Told us where we could go for groceries. When we got back to the house, we we were just blown away with how nice the place is. House was clean, towels, sheets floors everything was as to be expected. The pool, the location, the backyard area, how the house opens up to the outside were all amazing. Kitchen had everything we needed to get by. Super nice appliances including washer and dryer! Short walk to beach access, although if you would like actual beach to walk on (lanikai beach) you have to walk a bit further down the road or drive, we had no problem finding a spot to park if you get there at the right times. In the garage there beach items for your use. Boards, floaties, ice chest, beach mats, one person ocean kayak out back. The owner Alissa is super nice and easy to deal with. She had our deposit back the same day we left. I can only hope that I get to come back to visit. Kailua is a great little town. After driving the whole island, the community that this house is in and the beach it is located next to, sealed the deal for me and future visits. People are always waving and super friendly. I will definitely be back to Oahu, and hopefully get the chance to stay at this house again, if not, you will for sure find me near kailua and lanikai beach. Absolutely beautiful slice of heaven. Thank you for sharing it with us!
Beautiful home! The property is exactly as pictured and even better. Has everything we can ask for our family vacation: infinity pool, spa, BBQ, boogie boards, beach mat, floating mat, and my favorite – a kayak. You can literally walk down Lanipo Drive (about 1/4 mile walk) and launch the kayak there. But if you want to kayak a bit further off, e.g. on Kailua Beach, you’d better off renting a car with roof luggage rack. The owner, Alissa, is very attentive and super fast at responding to our inquiries, also fast at refunding deposits. Only wish is that the spa could be a bit hotter. Overall an excellent experience – would definitely consider coming back if we're in Oahu again.
Located on the windward side of Oahu, Lanikai is world renowned for its white sand beaches, water sports (kayaking, sail boarding, surfing), and cultural activities so as the Polynesian Cultural Village. Next to Kailua town - a cute and easily accessible village with lovely restaurants, shops, grocery stores, banks etc. Everything you need for a wonderful and easy holiday!
