More Guest Book Comment: What a wonderful place on Earth! One of our best vacations to Hawaii. Beats any hotel in Honolulu hands down. Hope to be back next year! Thanks for sharing your lovely heaven on Earth.

From the moment we stepped foot into this lovely home, we were in awe! I have never felt so at home as I have here. There is something very spiritual and inspiring about the Hau Tree and the beautiful location. We have found our Paradise on Earth! Mahalo for sharing with us your home. Our memories will last forever

Relaxing Vacation: It is hard not to relax in a place this beautiful. I've never been to Hawaii before - and what an amazing place to spend my first adventure. I saw some unbelievable surfing and I so much enjoyed the little blue lagoon. We'll be back

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Hau Tree Beach House in October. I can't think of anything that would have made our stay better, except maybe a turtle or two on the beach, but there was a protected sea turtle area several beaches down. The October surf was starting to attract surfers - we watched them all day long from the porch right over the beach, where we also ate all our meals, including candle lit dinners. We swam & snorkeled in the little bay in front, protected by a reef. Snorkeling was OK, not great.
As opposed to the previous unhappy reviewer, we found the place very clean, nicely stocked with food staples & linens. Things were simple - what you'd expect at a family beach cottage. The caretaker was discreet when he used the laundry, entering from the outside door, keeping the door locked into our cottage. We finally found the Wi-Fi -(house to the left), but til then, went to the Coffee Gallery in Haleiwa. The Farmer's Market in Haleiwa (Sunday?) gave us ample local foods. Two large grocery stores supplied the rest.
We loved the low-key atmosphere - no condos, hotels or high rises (except Turtle Bay Resort 1/2 hr away - gated community with fancy restaurant). There were a number of local hikes and gardens, as well as famous surfing areas. Local restaurants were OK - nothing special, but nice to get out.
I'd recommend this as a quiet get-away, or for small families. The swimming area was protected - great for little kids. Less than an hour from the airport, it will be easy to return to! Mahalo!
OMG this place is like heaven on earth. We stayed there Sept and Oct 2014 and its my goal in life to get back ASAP. Very comfy with my family of 4 and loved surfing everyday, showers under the sunset and swimming with Turtles and Sea Horses right out the front. The family were very easy to deal with and the value was dope..
My husband and I chose this house as our first getaway from the kids. He's a surfer so we were looking for a spot that I would enjoy alone, without a car, while he was over at Rocky Point. That was our intention, however many days he just paddled out right from the house. The waves were 6-10 feet the week we were there. When he was worn out from other spots he was able to just stick close to home and have some easier, fun waves any chance he got. I'd peek out at him and when he'd start paddling in I'd start breakfast. I spent many hours, with several books and a cup of coffee on that front porch. I've never been so relaxed. The yard is great for sunbathing and being just steps from the sand, a quick jump in the ocean to cool off. The house is great. Super beachy, easy. Great for 2 couples, or 3 if you use the back house. Also would be great for a family of 4 in the house, and 2 big kids in the back house or, even better, grandma!
We made tons of day trips from this spot, Haleiwa for Shrimp and snowcones, Waiamea Falls hike, Sharks cove for snorkeling, Turtle beach in Lahinaka, Turtle bay resort for lunch and relaxing at their cove, kualoa ranch for an awesome atv ride, and into waikiki for Kalua pork at Helena's.
Can't say enough about our experience here. Great for us as a couple but can't wait to bring the kids back!
Amazing location for surfers, for families, for couples. Great parking in a prime location on the beach. Can't wait to go back!
This year we chose to stay at the Hau Tree house for 2 weeks instead of 1. I am at home (In Alaska) pining for it as I write this. I have stayed at quite a few places in Oahu and nothing beats staying here. It is the most relaxing, welcoming, beautiful place I have stayed and the porch is calling my name. I just wanted to write this because as I had read the 1 negative review of this place it just makes me laugh out loud at how ridiculously wrong the review is. The owners of the place are fabulous and do everything to make it wonderful. Everything the reviewer said was absolutely wrong. The place is immaculate, the internet worked just fine, and the neighborhood felt extremely safe. I walked all around it every night. I just wanted to write this because that review was so misleading but.....if truth be told, I really don't want the Hau Tree to get too many renters (lol). We need it for Christmas next year too!
We highly recommend the Hau Tree Beach House for your next Hawaiian vacation. It's not fancy, but oh, so comfortable. The yard is beautifully maintained, the cottage clean as a whistle. Family meals were taken under the Hau Tree on the patio where the lights were a nice addition since our last visit and lent a festive atmosphere to our gatherings.
Trish, one of the owners was wonderful to work with while making our reservation and while at the cottage.
While there, from the front porch, we saw breeching whales, and an endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal visited our beach for a day. Several beaches down, there were large sea turtles, but right in front of the cottage we saw dozens of smaller ones in the water.
A short drive south is the historic town of Haliewa with it's great shops and restaurants. Don't pass up the rice bowl breakfast at Breakers! Drive north and visit the Polynesian Cultural Center. The 7 PM show is amazing!
You can't beat the cost for what this place delivers. We will definitely be back.
First let me say that this house is what a beach house should be. I read a lot of reviews about the view from the porch. We could hardly pry ourselves away from it in the mornings and at night. We watched surfers while drinking coffee and then out to the beach everyday. The protective cove was fabulous for our kids who snorkeled and swam in it everyday. The house had beach toys, chairs, plenty of towels, sunscreen and etc... We hardly had to buy anything but the few things we did, we left for the next guests. I thought the beach area was one of the best because you could walk down to a main beach where lots of surfers and swimmers were and then back down to our own private beach.
The picnic area under the Hau Tree was also doubled as the game area. Having a washer and dryer was great and the house came stocked with everything we needed. It was also very comfortable.
Our friends stayed in the small cottage and that worked out great. They had privacy if they needed it but we all mainly hung out on that porch. The views everyday were beautiful. We saw a humpback one day.
Town was only a 5 min. drive and was fun just to walk around and window shop or to eat out. We will be returning next year if possible. It gives us Alaskan's something to look forward to during our long winters.
Thanks for sharing your place with us Trish.
