A perfect vacation get-away
Review Submitted: November 17, 2009
Date of Stay: October 2009
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Hau Tree Beach House in October. I can't think of anything that would have made our stay better, except maybe a turtle or two on the beach, but there was a protected sea turtle area several beaches down. The October surf was starting to attract surfers - we watched them all day long from the porch right over the beach, where we also ate all our meals, including candle lit dinners. We swam & snorkeled in the little bay in front, protected by a reef. Snorkeling was OK, not great.
As opposed to the previous unhappy reviewer, we found the place very clean, nicely stocked with food staples & linens. Things were simple - what you'd expect at a family beach cottage. The caretaker was discreet when he used the laundry, entering from the outside door, keeping the door locked into our cottage. We finally found the Wi-Fi -(house to the left), but til then, went to the Coffee Gallery in Haleiwa. The Farmer's Market in Haleiwa (Sunday?) gave us ample local foods. Two large grocery stores supplied the rest.
We loved the low-key atmosphere - no condos, hotels or high rises (except Turtle Bay Resort 1/2 hr away - gated community with fancy restaurant). There were a number of local hikes and gardens, as well as famous surfing areas. Local restaurants were OK - nothing special, but nice to get out.
I'd recommend this as a quiet get-away, or for small families. The swimming area was protected - great for little kids. Less than an hour from the airport, it will be easy to return to! Mahalo!
Owner's Response: Mahalo ! We are so glad you had a enjoyable vacation. A Hui Hou
