SUMMER AT THE BEACH -AND FOREST & FLOWERS, TOO! CAMP YACHATS VACATION COTTAGE

Yachats Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps maximum 4)

When you check in at Camp Yachats Vacation Cottage, you will be greeted by fresh flowers, the world's largest ocean, and the Siuslaw National Forest, one of only two in the lower 48 which have the forest meeting the ocean! This one of a kind cottage, privately owned and managed by the on-site owners, is situated on two acres, with the Siuslaw National Forest all around. Flower beds, rhododendrons, and flowering trees provide seasonal color throughout. We are located 6.5 miles south of the village, on the inland side of the breathtakingly gorgeous stretch of shoreline between Cape Perpetua and Heceta Head. And our rates are simple... TAXES ARE INCLUDED, AND NO EXTRA FEES! (...for humans, that is. Up to two dogs are welcome, and will be charged $25 each.)

The two front rooms and the porch offer ocean views through the trees. The cottage features 2 bedrooms, a small yet fully equipped kitchen, a living room, a small dining room, and a small bright bathroom.

You can relax in a rocker on the porch, listen to the ocean’s waves, and breathe in the cool clean air while keeping an eye out for the eagles and hummingbirds in residence.

Walk to the beach down our private mossy path edged by ferns, salal, huckleberry, and Sitka spruce. There you’ll find wide sandy beaches and rocky tide pools, only 800 feet from your front door, just across the Scenic Pacific Coast Byway. Stroll along the beaches, typically empty except for agates, driftwood, and shore birds.

Just behind the cottage a trail leads to the banks of the year round Mill Creek (about 150 feet from your back door), with tall trees, ferns, and wildflowers all around. Or you might unwind at the table under the apple tree in the backyard garden.

This charming cottage is the perfect spot for your vacation get away and a delightful base for exploring the Oregon Coast. We provide a small library of specially selected books on a variety of local topics, including history of the area, geology and flora and fauna. The cottage is also equipped with board games and jigsaw puzzles for your enjoyment.

Whimsy abounds, with an Elvis shrine, a sock monkey haven, local folk art, a sand collection, vintage Oregon plates, a little red-and-white retro red kitchen, and lots more surprises!

Your hosts live on site next door, and would be delighted to help in any way possible to make your stay a memorable one. If you desire an amenity or service not listed, please ask anyway. In many cases you can be accommodated.

• Ocean views and easy private beach access

• Complimentary tea and coffee

• Dog friendly; dog towels provided

• Wi-Fi access

• Simple rates... TAXES INCLUDED, NO EXTRA FEES for humans. Up to two good dogs are welcome, $25 each for the duration of your stay.

• Please note, two beds, maximum 4 persons

One guest even memorialized her experience here in verse::

From the moment we arrived til our leave-taking today

Camp Yachats has been wonderful, and we'd rather stay

Enjoying the comfort, the humor, the art,

The beach, the forest, the garden, the heart,

And the soul you've poured into this place...

Thank you for sharing this island of grace!

We are your hosts, Victoria Lambert and Paul Niblock. Paul previously lived on five continents, then both of us traveled the lower 48 states looking for our perfect spot. We think we have it! We enjoy the ocean 800' from our door, the cleanest freshest air you can imagine, dark rich earth for gardening, lush green forest around us, a creek in the back yard, mountains behind us, lots of solitude, and a year-round temperate climate... we don't need air-conditioning and we don't shovel snow. Life is good!

A Victoria Lambert purchased this cottage in 2001

Outside, the beach, the Pacific, the forest, the creek, the flowers and apple trees... and eagles, elk, bears, coyotes, sea lions, seals, otters, eagles and hummingbirds to share it with.

And inside, all the practical stuff you need to make your visit go smoothly... plus fun furnishings and loads of whimsy, Elvis, sock monkeys, and a growing sand collection from all over the globe!

COZY WEEKEND GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
What a great little hidden treasure on the Oregon coast! Tucked up into the woods but with a gorgeous view of the ocean through the trees, Camp Yachats was a wonderful place to get away from it all for a few days with my family. My toddler and my dog LOVED the hiking trails right out the back door. Quiet and peaceful and fun!

PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5
It was a real treat to stay at Camp Yachats. We were there over Memorial Day Weekend and it was so nice to enjoy the private, pristine location but also be close enough to partake in local festivities if we wanted. The hosts were very kind and accommodating, thanks again Paul and Victoria!

GOING TO CAMP

  • 5 of 5
I loved Camp Yachats and my visit there. Paul and Victoria have a wonderful style of management--there when you need them and otherwise rarely to be seen. The proximity to the beach is great, I loved my morning walks there. The hiking at nearby Cape Perpetua is superb, the closeness of the town of Yachats is just right for supplies or eating out, but far enough to feel some isolation from commerce. The resident eagle pair always a delight to spot. My dog and I loved our week and a half at camp.

COMFORTABLE FAMILY RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
We had a very nice weekend at Camp Yachats. We cooked. My mother-in-law was happy to sit and read in the sun without feeling the need to get things done on her to-do list. My husband sat in the woods near the creek to work on his book. We took walks on the beach, looked for agates, and went into town a couple of times to eat out (Ona (we liked the burgers and fries) & the Drift Inn (I liked the crab cakes) - both restaurants are recommended) and to visit the Sunday farmer's market. Our toddler played with Paul & Victoria's dogs and cats in the backyard, stacked Jenga blocks, and danced to the oldies music channel on their Direct TV. (For kids, we recommend using their baby/dog gate to keep them out of the kitchen, as cleaning products are stored within reach of little ones.) We played games provided by the hosts, and drank wine near the gas fireplace. It rained one night, and it was relaxing to listen to it hit the roof.

The website's description and photos accurately depicted the cottage, everything was clean, well stocked (towels, cookware, dishes, games, blankets, fans) and ready for us upon arrival. The hosts were very accommodating - offering us both early check in and late check out upon request. For our dog, they even provided a special basket of treats, towels, furniture sheets, and poo bags. The hosts gave us a thorough tour of the cottage and its amenities, made it clear that we could call them for anything at all, and they were around if we had any questions. One thing I wish we had asked them was whether they had lawn/lounge chairs available to take down to the beach; I bet they have them, but we never asked.

We recommend this location, and we hope to go back with other family members in the future when they come to visit us in Portland. We love having a little place to ourselves, especially with a noisy kid.
