Laurel River Retreat is well known locally for its magnificent setting, on a hill overlooking the Laurel River in undeveloped forest. The Laurel River Trail along the river is at the bottom of the hill and runs for three miles to where the Laurel intersects with the French Broad River. This is one of the most popular and beautiful trails in the region. It is literally at the front door of Laurel River Retreat.
Hot Springs:
Hot Springs is a charming little town just 10 minutes drive from Laurel River Retreat. It is one of the few cities in America intersected by the Appalachian Trail. Visitors from all over world pass through the town as they hike the trail. It offers three nice restaurants, a hiking/camp store and several good hardware stores. It is famous for the Hot Springs Spas, a real treat for visitors - clean, well run and affordable. Hot Springs also has a medical clinic.
Asheville:
Asheville, NC is a scenic 40 minute drive from Laurel River Retreat. This is a jewel in the mountains. It has many fine restaurants, antique shops, theaters, malls, and shops and large Many people enjoy visiting the Biltmore mansion and grounds. Asheville is also nationally known for its many fine art galleries.
