Beautifully restored by retired educators who once owned a local historic (1779) inn, home to Ethan and Ira Allen, famous Green Mountain Boys. Skinner House continues to meet and serve our guests in a beautiful four season resort community.
The Owner purchased this condo in 2005
We have a passion for the Manchester area and community. Manchester caters to a diverse community ... from ski rentals to wedding parties at the Equinox Hotel & Resort ... from all-year outlet shoppers to golfers, attending our major Summer horse event, the car and floral shows, amazing blazing foliage season, the long slow cool Summer, vibrant Spring and great Winter skiing and good times around the fire ... Manchester is a full 4 Season Resort community. Skinner House is very well received by our guests. Many have returned to stay with us each year. We hope you enjoy it.
Skinner Cottage is very well located on Manchester's most beautiful Main street, is a historic home, well situated next to the Equinox Hotel & Resort with its outstanding facilities including world class spa and restaurants, minutes from even more excellent restaurants, cafes, taverns and shopping, only minutes walk to two golf courses and tennis facilities and only a short drive to skiing. Being in Southern Vermont, Manchester and Skinner Cottage are well situated to explore a wide range of all-season and seasonal Vermont vacation activities. Even a walk up and down the million dollar marble sidewalks of Main Street - on which Skinner Cottage is primely located - we think you will agree, will take you to another time!
We had a great time checking out all Manchester has to offer. We enjoyed our stay at the Carriage House and you may see us again.
My husband I have stayed at the Carriage House at Skinner Cottage several times...in every season. Winter, spring, summer, fall... I property offers us access to all that the Manchester area has to offer. We especially like the proximity to the Equinox Hotel, just 3 houses away. We enjoy gng over for a nightcap at the Falcon Bar at the Equinix and weather permitting enjoying that dink sitting outside around the quartz fire put which faces the Mt. Equinix summit.
The spa at the Equinox is a great place to go after a long day of hiking or cross country skiing and is once again just a few steps away from this lovely, cozy property.
The property itself is warm and cozy, and is always extremely clean. We have prepared many meals in the small, but well-appointed kitchen. After a day of snow-shoeing or cross country skiing at Hildene or Wild Wings, there's nothing better than coming back to the Carriage House, flipping on the gas fireplace and enjoying a glass of red wine and a game of backgammon.
A previous review noted that there are only two sets of towels available to guests, even if you are there for an extended stay. The first time we stayed there for more than a couple of days we had access to an on site washer/dryer and we simply washed the towels ourselves as we needed to. Access to washer/dryer is no longer available so for extended stays you may want to bring an extra towel of your own.
Also, the location of this property with views if Mt Equinox is amazing, but in the summer there is no place to sit outside this 2nd floor property and have a glass of wine and enjoy the view. This is a minor inconvenience but after a long hike on a summer day the opportunity to sit outside either on a small patio or deck would be great.
The owner (Dave) and caretaker (Craig) are extremely responsive to any questions or concerns and do everything possible help you feel "at home". If they added couple of cozy chairs and a little better cozier lighting in the living room they might have guests who never want to leave!
This place was perfect for us...in beautiful Manchester Village, close to wonderful restaurants, hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing. Bright and spacious and quiet Carriage House felt like our home...wonderful to come home to at the end of the day...fully equipped kitchen with table overlooking garden with stone wall, cozy gas-burning wood stove, comfy bed. Have already booked for next winter!!
Stayed in the Carriage House for four nights. Roomy, clean, and great views of the gardens. Kitchen is small but well equipped. All kitchen appliances and utensils were in very good condition, except the knives which need sharpening. Comfortable bed. Window AC in the bedroom which is noisy, but makes for a comfortable nights sleep on a hot night. Need a second night stand on the right of the bed. One was there when the pics were taken. Also, the two rockers shown in the pics would be preferable to the single wing chair that is now in the living room.
The antique refrigerator in the kitchen is used for storage of plates, etc. This unit makes for a crowded entrance to the kitchen, has limited storage space and is not in keeping with the uncluttered decor. Better to use the space in the dining area for a storage cabinet.
Only one set of towels for each of us for four days. Plenty of storage in the living room that could hold extra towels. Light bulbs out in dining room and bedroom. No welcoming information such as info on recycling, whether we could use the patio, check out time, and the function of the LG unit in living room.
The VRBO site is confusing as they are renting two units, over the carriage garage and a 3rd floor apartment. The site gives little info on what is included such as kitchen items (toaster, microwave, coffee maker, etc.). We did not realize until we arrived that there was a link to more information on the bottom of the VRBO site. This link shows more pics and gives historical information. Pics on this site and the VRBO site are not current. They need to create VRBO site for each rental with links to each other.
Stairs are steep and would not be good for a handicapped or elderly person.
These are suggestions for improvement. This is still a great place to stay and we recommend it.
A charming carriage house in an ideal location in the village centre. Well equipped for longer stays if necessary. It It set just off the main road and is very quiet. Close to ski areas and within walking distance of rural walks as well as more strenuous walks up Equinox Moutain. Also within walking distance of many amenities within Manchester such as The Equinox, many restaurants, Hildene and the factory outlets.
Quiet place, lots of room. But the owner needs to communicate with the renter better. I think it would have been nice to have had a piece of paper next to the keys that welcomes the renter with their name on the welcome. It was a little alarming at first not knowing if we were in the correct place. It would also be nice to have some basic information along with the keys like where the grocery store is located, where are the restaurants, television instructions, trash instructions, where to park the car since there were 4 numbered spots, etc. We were gone all day every day and didn't have time to explore Manchester so those places were harder to find at 7:00 pm. Also, at least twice during our week stay, someone had been in our rental unit while we were gone. This was disturbing. I have never rented a VRBO and had anyone come in while I was renting. One day the recycle trash had been taken and one day the TV had been used and both days lights were left on. If this VRBO has "maid" service that information should have been given to us.
