Retired Professor and Dean

Roger Jenkins purchased this cottage in 2004

Having grown up as a child nearby, when this property came up for sale, I quickly bought it. Because of my work, I have been privileged to travel all over the world, but have found no spot as beautiful as these mountains and streams here in Buladean.

- Minutes from Appalachian Trail

- Walk across street to have access to trophy trout stream with beautiful brook, rainbow, and brown trout.

- 10 minutes from rafting and water tubing.

- 30 minutes to Roan Mountain State Park with swimming, tennis, fishing, hiking, picnic'ing'.

- 30 minutes from the top of Roan Mountain - with the world's largest natural display of rhododendron.

-30 minutes from Penland School

- one hour from skiing at Beech and Sugar Mountains in Boone and Blowing Rock.

- one hour from Biltmore House in Asheville

- peaceful, quiet, and wrapped in natural beauty.

OUR FAVORITE MOUNTAIN GETAWAY BY FAR!

  • 5 of 5
Our family stayed here over the July 4th weekend and loved every minute of it! The owner was very helpful, kind and responsive. The home is very clean and has everything you could possibly need. The beds and the bedding were the absolute best - very comfortable (excellent rest!) and well decorated! We woke up the first morning and enjoyed sitting on the patio watching the hummingbirds and listening to the creek. Our three children (ages 11, 9 and 5) had a blast playing in the creek and exploring. The fishing right across the street was fun for all of us - such beautiful sounds, incredible waterfalls, and peaceful surroundings. I loved the flowers, butterflies, picking blueberries - everything about this home makes us want to come back - real soon! It was a great time to get away and unwind as a family. We did not want to leave and we can't wait to stay again!

BEAUTIFUL, PEACEFUL, FULLY EQUIPPED HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
To put it simple...this place is heavenly. My husband, myself and our 3 children have spent the last two spring breaks at the cottage. The home is fully equipped with everything we need. The property provides endless exploration for the kids. The back deck is so relaxing. The nearby hiking is perfect for kids. All in all, this place is a perfect getaway. Roger is so nice...he brought us homemade brownies and apple butter. We plan on coming back as much as possible.

SO COZY I FELT LIKE I WAS HOME.

  • 5 of 5
The photos of the Cottage did not do it justice - it was warm and inviting, and so was our host. Perfectly clean, with a warm welcoming feel. Even though we did not have cell phone reception, the Cottage has a phone which can be used for local or long distance calls for no extra charge. All the basics are within a 15 minute drive - and another 5-10 minutes will get you items beyond the basics. There are trails for hiking all around the area, and there is a cute stream in the backyard with its own little waterfall. So restful - we will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Cottage at Toobie Hole. The house was very clean and nicely furnished. The stream in the backyard was the highlight for our children (4 + 7)---they played in it endlessly. The falls and deck across the street were gorgeous. The owner was very friendly and responsive to our e-mails. We felt a bit far removed from everything we wanted to do (lots of daily driving with small kids)--but we should have researched that better before our trip. The road was a bit closer to the house than we would have liked (you could hear cars whizzing past), but other than that, we'd highly recommend this property.

GET AWAY....

  • 5 of 5
Charming cottage; neat, clean and extremely inviting. Interior is comfortable, but outdoor deck and creek are spectacular. My husband and I had dinner outdoors every night and had a wonderful experience- not just relaxing, but truly a spiritual experience. If you need a break from the city and your daily life stressors, this is the place to escape and recharge the batteries. All you need is your toothbrush. Convenient location- great outdoors (figs, blueberries and beautiful landscape) and a running creek to help you relax.

BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAIN COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
We loved our vacation at the mountain cottage. The property and creeks are absolutely gorgeous. There were so many beautiful flowers all around the manicured property. We even enjoyed some fresh picked raspberries out of the garden with our breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the hummingbirds at the feeder out back.... they were very entertaining. And that back deck table over the creek was my peaceful retreat every morning with my coffee. We ate quite a few meals out there enjoying the creek and scenery....the atmosphere was better than any restaurant we could go to! And speaking of decks, the massive one across the street sits atop a larger creek with a beautiful waterfall. We enjoyed spending time over there as well relaxing. The inside of the cottage was beautifully decorated and clean. Very upscale and comfortable furniture with a wonderfully stocked kitchen. All of the info provided on the listing is very accurate. The cottage at The Toobie Hole is a "home away from home". Thank you Roger to you and your wife for sharing this beautiful place. It really is a piece of heaven and we hope to return for another relaxing getaway!
