Overview

Ocracoke House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Slow down... this isn't the mainland. If you are looking to relax and truly get away from it all, our house is the place for you. This 3 bedroom cottage is located in Ocracoke Village on the Outer Banks of NC. It has all the amenities of home and is decorated in sea glass colors which reflect our love of the water. The location is very quiet and private. It is secluded among cedar trees yet within walking or biking (the preferred method of transportation) distance of restaurants, shopping, Silver Lake harbor and the Ocracoke Lighthouse. Spend your days with a good book on the deck or screened porch, out in the boat, or enjoying one of America's #1 rated beaches (Dr. Beach, 2007).

Enjoy your morning coffee out on the deck overlooking our private yard or in the kitchen as the sunrise greets you thru the French doors. The cottage sleeps 6 with one queen bed, one double bed, and two twin beds. It is furnished with everything you need to immediately feel right at home... extra pillows and blankets, a CD and DVD library and everything you need to cook all your meals there. There is a hot/cold outdoor shower and stereo with iPod docking station.

Ocracoke is rich with local history in waterfowling, commercial fishing and of course, the pirate Blackbeard. It was at Teach's Hole off the shore of Ocracoke Island where Blackbeard famously met his demise. If you enjoy seafood there are many restaurants serving local fare or you can drop by the local fish market for something fresh to cook back at the cottage (unless of course you catch your own). For you fishermen there is room for boat parking and we have a lighted fish cleaning station. Boat rentals and both fishing and sailboat charters are available out of Silver Lake.

WE LOVED THE SECLUSION OF THIS HOME. IT FELT LIKE WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE THERE. IT WAS QUITE AND ON A DEAD END ROAD SO THERE WAS NO THRU TRAFFIC, AND JUST A SHORT WALK TO THE END OF THE ROAD YOU WERE IN THE VILLAGE, WALKING DISTANCE TO IT ALL. THE OWNERS WERE FANTASTIC TO DEAL WITH AND VERY ACCOMMODATING. WE HAVE BEEN GOING TO OCRACOKE SINCE 2000. I WILL RECCOMEND THIS SUNFETCHER AND WILL RETURN. DIDNT WANT TO LEAVE.

Perfect Choice

  • 5 of 5
The Sunfetcher proved to be the perfect choice for us. The water problem, mentioned frequently in these reviews, didn't seem to be that big a problem; basically, it smelled like well water often does at both campgrounds and cottages in Northern Michigan. Buy drinking water and all is fine. The smell dissapated in the shower when we let it run a bit. The important things to us were privacy, relaxation, and convenience; this place had it all. We sometimes felt like we were living in a tree house. Michelle was reponsive and helpful during the entire process of reserving, renting, and inhabiting the cottage. It was convenient to the village; we could and did walk to many spots. We could site on the deck in complete privacy. When we return to Ocracoke, we will definitely choose Sunfetcher if it is available.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! Just to clarify for others, the drinking water is at our expense. We gladly provide this for all our guests.

Gibson Return

I know this is unusual and I just couldn't let this lady be summed up by the last review. Things happen and sometimes you just cant control that so common sense and understanding are a must. But as to her honesty, let me just say apparently the last review was out of the norm but highly unlikely. The lady who owns this I have never met. Last year we came to her lovely quiet home, that was clearly advertised with issues with water and we also had an oven issue but hey things happen and she was very nice. Not only that as far as her honesty, here we go, I sent her a check to pay for our half week and 1 week went by, 2 weeks went by, and almost 3 weeks went by with no check clearing, well I contacted her and she said I never got it. We were scheduled to go that Wednesday and she never hesitated saying come on and we will figure it out later. We made arrangements through a web based payment site and all was well. She never hounded us, she never questioned whether I even sent it the first time and I kept my reservation. I sympathize with some unfortunate issues from the last review, but I know for a fact this lady is honest, kind and very respectable. Is the house older, yes it is, is it a little dated, yes it is, is it cozy and homey yes it is, is it clean and great for a getaway to an island for fishing and other activities yes it is, is it affordable yes it is. I am not related nor a friend however I am looking to book this november and maybe she will give me a pet discount, but if she don't I don't care, its worth it. Honesty is not an issue with this owner or her house.

Not as pictured and some details left out

  • 3 of 5
Ok - The water is not that bad. It did go brown and she sent some one over to fix it immediately. The down side to this is that the guy who came over to fix it also decided to cut the grass at 9am!! So here we are on vacation, stayed out late were looking foward to being able to sleep in (something I can never do at home) and this person is cutting the grass right outside my window!! REALLY? I guess he decided to kill to birds with one stone.

Please note that the kitchen, livingroom and bathroom are not pictured. Kitchen is very old counter tops have very bad burn stains. Bathroom is VERY SMALL. to the point when you go to sit on the toilet you will hit your head on the sink. The living room sofas are covered with things that do not even fit it properly. The dvd player did not work and the dish service would turn off constantly.

The house has a musty smell to it.

The owner is not very honest. She never informed me about the water, until I did research on reviews and asked her about it, only then did she come clean. Second the process to rent her place is to send her money first and she will give you the details later. Well she charges a $50.00 cleaning fee, but then requires you to wash and fold all linen, take out all trash, wash all dishes and put back, sweep and vacuum floors, and microwave. If I am cleaning the house why am I paying a cleaning fee? I do not think the owners have been to the property in some time. Considering the furnace door is full of thick dust, the roof is full of dust. I think the little cleaning that gets done at this place is by the renter themselves.

You might need a tetanus shot if you use the outdoor shower. All it is is a pipe coming out that is 100% completely rusted. The pictures are very old. I just thought it would be fair to future renters to REALLY know what they are renting.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that this guest's stay at our house got off on the wrong foot. Being very sensitive to the water situation I was anxious to get someone over there ASAP to get it fixed. It is unfortunate that the yard work woke them up. I probably wouldn't have liked that either. My call and voicemail message later that day to follow up to make sure the water situation was corrected and any issues with the Dish service were resolved was never returned. I was not aware of any issues with the DVD player but would have been glad to work through it with them or even get someone over there to do it for them if needed.
With regard to the list of cleaning requests we simply ask our guests to be respectful of our house and to leave it tidy as they found it. We provide a list of reminders to help with tidying prior to check out. It says to "Sweep/vacuum pet hair (if applicable)." They did not bring a pet that we were aware of. Linens are provided as a service to our guests. Most rentals do not provide them and you must bring your own or pay to rent them. They are optional to use and guests are welcome to bring their own if they do not want to do laundry prior to check out. It's something we provide if it helps out.
I was not aware of any issue with the outdoor shower. I did not know the shower head had been taken off and have contacted someone to get it replaced. This house is at the beach and as such outside things do start to corrode so we will have someone inspect it and replace if necessary.
We are well aware that when people go on vacation it is an important time that they have worked hard to make happen. As such we want our guests to have a great experience. I make sure all renters have my phone number (it is also posted in the house) and they may call at any time with any issues that may arise. We will do our very best to respond as quickly as possible to get it resolved.

WOW! What a wonderful property! Everything was very well described. The house was very well stocked and met all of our expectations. The owner was very easy to deal with and was very up front with us about everything. I know everyone is speaking about the odor and condition of the water and it concerned us as well, but it was not all that terrible. It is very obvious the owners are doing everything they can to filter and condition the water of the current well. The first shower was the worst and went to my 13 year old who survived. After that the smell was not as bad. The owners provided water for drinking and we brought extra just in case. The lot was very secluded and we loved that, quote from 13 year old son, "I couldn't have come out on the porch in my boxers at Blackbeards Lodge". Got to love teenagers. Anywho, great house, had great weather and lots of Drums caught and eaten! We had a blast. Oh yeah and the owner warned us about the path to the house, but the people in the area were very nice, now if you need a boat part, net fixed or hull to your boat just stop and I bet you he can find you what you need. Highly recommend this house.
