Casa Rayón Where you are at home!

Casa Rayon: an updated Spanish Colonial Home

Casa Rayón is a secure and recently updated Casa Antigua from the Spanish colonial period located in the desirable Colonia Americana neighborhood of Guadalajara Jalisco. The exact date of the construction is unknown but it is assumed to date back to the 1800s. Its thick adobe wall and 15 foot ceilings keep the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Thru out the house you will notice the artisan crafted mosaicos hidráulico or encaustic cement tiles that became popular in Europe and Latin America in the 1850s. They are still manufactured today in Guadalajara, by hand, using the same techniques.

You will appreciate the hand crafted talavera tiles line the walls of the kitchen as you enjoy modern conveniences like an induction burners, full size refrigerator, microwave oven, convection toaster oven coffee maker, and blender. You can still see where the openings in the ceiling were that allowed smoke to escape from the wood burning stove tops from yesteryear. For your convenience the kitchen is also equipped with cook ware and utensils, as well as plates dishes and flatware.

The bathrooms have talavera tiles as well as hand painted sinks. The Suite San Francisco bathroom has dual sinks and a bathtub to sit and soak.

Casa Rayón is conveniently located in the desirable Colonia Americana Neighborhood of Guadalajara, less than one block from Parque Revolución where the two subway lines meet, various bus lines connect, and you will always find a taxi.

The Templo Expiatorio, Gothic church is thee blocks from Casa Rayón. Easily WALK to historical downtown attractions, museums, banks, clubs, restaurants, shopping, language schools, and grocery stores.

To stay at this Spanish Colonial home was a beautiful experience. This house is decorated with good taste according to its style. It is very well located, walking distance of most amenities. We liked so much that we are coming back in October for ten days. Antonio, co-owener, who lives upstairs, was a good source of help if needed. J and M Vancouver, Canada

This is a remarkable place to stay. Not only is it in central Guadalajara and close to wonderful restaurants, cathedrals, parks, the University, markets, and the subway, it is absolutely lovely. It exceptionally comfortable with a cozy feel to all of the rooms. Antonio has taken great care with the decor and every room is a delight to the eye.
It was easy to move in and feel right at home. Antonio goes out of his way to make sure that the stay is a wonderful experience as well as providing weekly cleaning and fresh linens; all conveniences are there. After a two-week stay, we still did not want to leave.

We were blessed in finding Casa Rayon for our stay in Guadalajara. It is a beautifully restored old Mexican home - very attractive and comfortable. Our hosts, Antonio and Thomas couldn't have done more to make us feel at home. They made us feel like friends, rather than just renters. They truly went the extra mile - providing a second coffee maker and another refrigerator to accomodate our needs. They even shared their two adorable little dogs, Blanquita and Jane, with us. Since we took the privacy option, we had the entire ground floor to ourselves. The rates are very reasonable and an outstanding value. The privacy option is well worth the additional cost!

More a "home" than a house

It is hard to describe this wonderful place without using too many superlatives. Great care has been taken with the interior design, decor, furnishings and household equipment as well as attention to details so often overlooked in rental properties. Even the in-house information binder was so complete that we did not need a tour book!
The location was ideal for exploring the downtown area with easy access to tour buses for going further afield. After a hard days shopping with my wife in the artesanal stores of Tlaquepaque, it was a great relief to return to the tranquillity of Casa Rayon.
Many thanks to landlords Tom and Antonio, our stay far exceeded our expectations.

Casa Rayon......Where you are at home.

Our pleasant four month stay at Casa Rayon was all we had hoped it would be and more. Thanks to hosts Antonio and Thomas who made sure that everything ran smoothly in the house as well as being a source of knowledge and information about Guadalahara.

Their listing description and photos of house and location captures Casa Rayon and friendly neighborhood perfectly. The house is maintained well , decor is lovely, and amenities included all that we needed to make our stay comfortable. I especially liked the bedding linens and towels.

The proximity to all that we wanted to experience was wonderful. A 10 to 20 minute walk would take you to shopping, markets, historic centre, theatres, parks and restaurants. A 5 minute walk takes you to Templo Expiatorio,a Gothic style cathedral, where there is always something interesting happening day or evening. Taxis are available everywhere if your feet start rebelling and they are very affordable. It was a joy not to have to depend on a vehicle for getting around.
We are already looking forward to our return trip to Casa Rayon and Guadalahara.
