This 1600 square foot, lakefront cottage was completely renovated in April '09. It is lovingly decorated with warm colors and tastefully selected furnishings. The cottage is completely furnished, from high end art on the walls, to quality bedding and bath linens, to a fully stocked kitchen. Every detail has been taken care of just for you!

The large picture window in the living room overlooks beautiful Lake Mitchell. The living room showcases a floor to ceiling, wood-burning, brick fireplace. All new furniture in neutral fabrics featuring a sleek leather club chair and matching couch, as well as gorgeous, handwoven seagrass chairs in the sunroom. Colorful pillow accents and soft blanket throws, exemplify a tasteful and uniquely fresh decor. The living room also hosts a 42' flat screen High Definition television with surround sound, DVD player and premium cable channels. Free Wi-Fi internet is available throughout the cottage.

A separate dining room seats up to 8 people and is directly adjacent to an efficiently stocked kitchen featuring stainless steel appliances. Two beautifully decorated master bedrooms offer queen-sized beds with luxurious bedding. The two remaining bedrooms feature bunk beds for a true cottage feel. The sun room in the front of the cottage displays a full wall of windows with expansive, unobstructed lake views. There is nothing but lawn between you and the lakefront seawall! The sun room also features two full-size day bed futons, each sleeping up to two adults. Catch a Michigan sunrise via the sun room while enjoying your morning coffee. The front hall bathroom offers a gleaming subway tiled tub and shower, and the back bathroom features a standing shower. Each bath is fully stocked with quality linens, including beach towels for your convenience.

Savor your meals al fresco via the lakeside deck furnished with tasteful patio furniture and a gas grill. An eight person hot tub is located directly off the front deck. Let the kids bounce away on the water trampoline, or play in the fenced in backyard as you relax the end of another beautiful vacation day away in the hot tub. Bring your boat, kayaks, wave runners and dock them on the 100 foot private dock right in front of the house, or better yet, save yourself the hassle and fuel cost of transporting your boats and rent OUR BOATS!

GAME ROOM (Optional Rental $250 per stay) The 2 stall garage has been professionally converted into a recreation room featuring a pool table, air hockey, bumper pool, shuffleboard, electronic darts, an additional TV, a foosball table, a three person sauna and a full-size refrigerator to hold your favorite thirst quenching refreshment! Reserve this play land for an additional fee, and your 'kids' will have every waking moment of their vacation filled with indoor and outdoor activity! Please note: For those renting in the off-season/Winter; the game room does not have a furnace. It does have an electric fireplace and 2 electric heaters which are sufficient to warm it for use, however, we do not recommend it for sleeping quarters during the coldest months. Also note the game room does not have running water, therefore bathroom access is only available inside the cottage.

ASK ABOUT ADDITIONAL ITEMS TO RENT: Note; These items are available on a first come first serve basis; we have more than 1 property and they may not be available even if the cottage is available. Please inquire right away if you are interested!

24' PONTOON BOAT with 90 horse motor, tube included ($250/day or $1195/week).

Take the total recreation package (includes all items listed above) for $2750/week - a $965 savings if rented individually for the week!

Please note: While we do encourage good-times and life-long happy memories to be made at the cottage, we ask you reconsider if your group is focused on alcohol consumption during your stay; we want to keep our property secure and protected for those who will treat it as we treat it. We also value our neighbors and do not want to disturb them with loud parties. Lastly, please, do not inquire if you want to host a Senior Class graduation party, or an after party for prom, as we also have a minimum age limit of 25 years of age for renters. If you want to have family-fun, reunions, or couples' or friends' weekends, then we are the place for, you and your group!

With prior approval we do allow a well-behaved, well-trained pet to vacation with you during your stay. The fee is $95 for the week. We also require you are a good neighbor and not allow your pet to wander, bark, or be left alone on the property. Contact us for additional details regarding pets.

Lake Mitchell is 2580 acres in size and is connected to Lake Cadillac by a navigable canal, combining over 3700 acres of all-sports water fun! Many casual restaurants and eateries shore up to both lakes, offering docking for dining and/or drinks. Ice cream shops, party stores, and gas docks are also directly accessible by watercraft.

You will be surrounded by the Manistee National Forest boasting six-hundred thousand acres of pristine wooded wonderland! The Big Manistee, Little Manistee and Pine River (the fastest moving river in Michigan) are only minutes away. Fish the Tippy Dam, providing world class salmon, steelhead and trout opportunities; fly fishing aficionados love to fish on the Pine River!. The dunes of Lake Michigan located in Manistee are just a short drive away.

Winter activities abound! Snowmobile trails are accessible right from the front yard. Access these trails from Lake Mitchell, and you can sled directly onto the Lake from the front of the cottage. Downhill skiing at Caberfae is 15 minutes away, and Crystal is 45 minutes from the cottage. Cross Country ski in the surrounding woods or directly onto the lake. Excellent ice fishing can be had right in front of the cottage. Or, simply sit back and enjoy the quiet over a cup of hot chocolate and a crackling fire from your cozy abode!

No matter when you choose to visit you will be WOWED! This is truly one of the nicest rentals in the area, offering the widest variety of on-site amenities.

About John or Laurie

I grew up in the Cadillac area and appreciate it's natural beauty even more, now having moved away. I've always enjoyed the year round activities Cadillac offers! No matter the season you are never at a loss for something to do - hiking, biking, trail riding, swimming, skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, fishing, hunting, shopping and so much more!

John or Laurie purchased this cottage in 2008

Why John or Laurie chose Cadillac

This property was refurbished and decorated with love! We often travel and vacation utilizing rentals, and have experienced both what we like, and don't like in a rental property. The Boathouse is everything WE would want to experience while on vacation; from the location to the decor. Great care was taken to ensure you will create wonderful memories.

What makes this cottage unique

Lakefront and beautiful - The Boathouse is quality through and through! From the rec room filled with electronic games and 3 person sauna, to the water trampoline, to the 8 person hot tub, to the lakefront fire pit, to the upscale boating decor. Although it is quaint, this is not your Grandparent's cottage on the lake!

The Recreation Package is an amenity other properties do not offer. Check out the weekly rental rates on power boats, paddle boats, kayaks and bikes - all meant to help you have a wonderful and exclusive vacation experience.

Cold Weather, Warm Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a blast snowmobiling in MI. The cottage was perfect for our group. Everything was clean and modern. We enjoyed the fireplace in the evenings and the kids were thankful for the WiFi. We ate out most meals and truly enjoyed your recommendations. We have rented several places around the country, but have never received such great service from the owners. Thanks for everything!!!!

Owner's Response: Dale, We couldn't be happier to hear your group enjoyed the cottage and the surrounding area! The Boathouse location is a great choice for year-round fun and we are honored you chose to stay at the cottage for your snowmobile family getaway; particularly during the coldest temperatures of the year. Your group wins the award for, Hardiest of Guests! We do hope you will choose to stay at the cottage, again, in the near future. We would love to have you also experience the balmy temperatures of Summer in Northern Michigan :) Best, Laurie & John

Ice Fishing trip 2015

  • 4 of 5

Spent 3 nights with eleven friends at the Boat House for our annual ice fishing trip. The house was clean and well stocked when we arrived. Though smaller than the houses we are used to renting the home worked well. Its location on the lake is nice but would definitely bring sleds upon returning to the property for another ice fishing adventure. The property owners were very accommodating with regards to the information they sent us on the lake with links to fishing reports, etc. Everyone had a great time and it is at the top of our list for next year but we may have a few more people so will likely check out their other property on this lake. Thanks again for a great stay.

Great for an autumn getaway

  • 5 of 5

Rented by ~15 for an extended holiday weekend in October. The home is very cozy, yet comforably sleeps a very large amount of people. We made fires, cooked (and grilled), used the hot tob a lot, and also rented the pontoon boat. We also rented the "Clubhouse." Cadillac is nicely situated for a day trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes or Traverse City, and we also went on a few short hikes in the area. While we decided to drive up at a fairly chilly time of year, the house was a great base for an autumn trip, as well as the summer vacations that other reviewers seem to have enjoyed. John and Laurie were quick in their responses to questions, and their local maintenance man was very helpful in assisting with the pontoon boat. All in all a great time!

Owner's Response: Dan, We are so happy to hear you and your group found the cottage to be spacious as well as a great location for your autumn retreat! The Boathouse is a great year-round destination; no matter the season. Lakes Cadillac & Mitchell, the Pine River and The Manistee National Forest are just outside your door! Traverse City, Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes or even the Mackinac Bridge are all great day trips, too! Thanks for staying at The Boathouse and we hope you will visit again, soon! ~Laurie & John

Last hurrah for summer

  • 5 of 5

Spent 5 days at this wonderful place with 2 families (5 kids). A jam packed place that was perfect for the kids with the garage that has been turned into a games room that the kids called the Fort. There was absolutely no way for them to be bored. The kayaks, hot tub, soft sand beach with water trampoline and relax lounge it was hard to fit it all in. The cottage was larger then expected and could not have been cleaner!! The hosts were wonderful adding a s'more package for the kids and were open to taking calls for any questions. We will definitely try to fit this in again next year

Owner's Response: Kevin, We are truly happy to hear you and your family enjoyed the offerings and amenities at The Boathouse cottage! It is a wonderful location for families with children (or, adults who are kids at heart!) Our goal is to provide a venue which you would never want to leave and will always want to return, again; sounds like it was a mission accomplished! We hope you will soon return to The Boathouse for, "Round Two"! Best, Laurie & John

Great vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at your cottage. We barely left except for grocery runs. The kitchen was fully stocked; the cottage was clean, plenty of towels and hot water for our large group (7 adults, 4 kids, 2 dogs). We loved the jacuzzi, the water trampoline and the relaxation station! There was a wonderful fire pit with plenty of chairs and marshmallow roasting sticks (they even provided the chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers- very nice touch). The kids loved the garage/game room when they needed a break from the water. All in all it was a great property and we would definitely return.

Owner's Response: Cindy, We are so happy to hear you and your wonderful family enjoyed the cottage and its surroundings! The Boathouse is in a great location for daytrips to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City Wine Country, Lake Michigan, World Class Golf Course at Arcadia Bluffs, which are all just an hour or less drive from the cottage; however, we find many of our guests are content to enjoy the cottage, itself and find difficulty leaving it and its offerings! We hope you and your family will find their way back to the Boathouse, soon!

summer getaway

My husband, dog and myself stayed at this fantastic property for a week. We had a great time taking it easy lakeside, playing games, having campfires, relaxing in hot tub, cooking dinners, eating outside and enjoying swimming and boating! The place is light and bright and has everything you need. We will definitely come back!

Cadillac offers a wide variety of recreational activities, mouthwatering cuisine, appealing attractions, unique shopping and is clearly a small town with a ‘vigorous economy, a healthy environment and a vibrant sense of community.

There are large chain grocery stores and the usual fast food restaurants, but we encourage you to try the locally owned businesses and restaurants created by those who live, here. For instance, The Clam Lake Beer Co is a newly opened brew pub offering 20+ beers, brewed on site; the sport a great menu and wine is offered, too :)

To wear off that great food and drink; we offer over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, 34 downhill ski runs with over 485 feet of vertical drop, over 58 miles of cross country ski and snow shoe trails (15 groomed miles), 90,000+ acres of state and national forest, and three major rivers with two large lakes offering year around world record fishing. Recreation defines our lives and offers ‘naturally inviting’ reasons to visit us.

After the day in the great outdoors, Cadillac offers unique shopping boutiques, three bowling centers, a roller skating rink, a championship ice rink, two full service health & fitness facilities, a 3D movie complex, and of course mouthwatering cuisine at the many locally owned restaurants around the area. Add these attractions to a full line-up of winter festivals and you can spend a fun-filled, or relaxing vacation – either way, come connect in Cadillac, you’ll keep coming back for more.

Once you arrive at The Boathouse Cottage you will most likely not want to leave the property; however, should you decide to take a day trip we have recommendations!

Are you a golfer? Enjoy fine dining? Sunsets on Lake Michigan? Check out Arcadia Bluffs located in Empire, Michigan. Arcadia Bluffs is just over an hour's drive, West of the cottage.

Even if you don't enjoy golf you will enjoy this location's ambiance of gorgeous views and scrumptious food! Shopping is your hobby? Drop off the golfers and head to Frankfort for the day! Rejoin them at night for the sunset and dinner :)

Don't Miss Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park in Empire Michigan; voted America's Most Beautiful Location by The Today Show. Empire is just an hour from the cottage and less than 20 minutes North of Arcadia Bluffs This destination is often the highlight of our guests' day trips. Pack a lunch, take a hike and experience the stuff wonderful lifetime memories are made of!

Manistee is 45 minutes West, and offers both a casino and Lake Michigan shores. Traverse City is less than an hour and hosts many festivals throughout the year, including the World Famous Cherry Festival in July. Also in Traverse City - the Leelanau Peninsula; home to many wineries and shops.

You will never lack for something to do when you stay at The Boathouse! Or, try my favorite - just kick-back and do nothing at all and still experience one of the best vacations of your life!
