This is a GORGEOUS PROPERTY and is perfectly situated 50' off of the beautiful Sturgeon River and walking distance to Trail #7 of the infamous Rails-to-Trails mountain biking and snowmobiling trails. There’s nothing like this 4 bedroom (plus loft), 3 bathroom home in Indian River so close to everything, including:

It has custom-built cabinetry and stainless steel appliances in the chef’s kitchen and a BBQ deck and gas grill just off of the dining area. The main level also has a tidy living area with comfy seating and a 46” flat panel TV (complete with an Onkyo surround sound system) and a main-floor bedroom with a private entrance to the deck overlooking the Sturgeon River and a queen-size Tempur-Pedic mattress for extra comfort . The upstairs is perfect for a couple and at least 4 kids; two in the smaller bedroom and two in the loft overlooking the great room. The upstairs bedroom has gorgeous views of the Sturgeon River and large back yard and has vaulted ceilings.

Outside Details: Outside, between the home and the river, is a nice lawn to run around on with your dog and a beautiful stone enclosed bonfire pit with firewood and seating provided. Just outside of the walkout, finished lower level is a brick patio with a hot tub for soaking in and relaxing. The home has landscape ground lighting all around the foundation so it is well lit at night while you’re enjoying the late night bonfires at the river. On the deck overlooking the Sturgeon River is a nice picnic table for relaxing, an outdoor dinning set, and a staircase that goes down to the lawn going to the river. In the front of the home is a smaller lawn and driveway as well as another vacant lot for extra parking space for your extra vehicles, boats, trailers, etc. Also in the front is paver patio with a cedar log pergola, picnic table, and gas grill just off of the indoor dining area.

Extra Features: Our vacation cabin comes complete with two kayaks for our guests to use at no additional cost. Also, on the patio outside the finished, walkout lower level is a nice hot tub overlooking the large lawn and Sturgeon River. In addition, the finished lower level has a custom-built cedar sauna! About Doug Sidell

My name is Doug Sidell and I have a passion for life and for what I do! I'm a real estate broker, investor, and designer and builder of luxury cedar homes. I represent buyers purchasing waterfront and mountain property in the Southeast, mostly in North Carolina. My primary residence is in Charlotte, NC and my business is simply named after me: C. Douglas Sidell & Co. I graduated with undergraduate and MBA degrees from Michigan State University and absolutely love following the Spartans in basketball and football. Most of my free time is spent with my wife, Krista, who is a nurse practitioner at Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte (and an alumnus of The Ohio State University), our son, Noah, and our daughter, Anna. Some of my other free time is spent fly fishing, upland bird hunting with my dog Mitch, golfing, cooking, reading, traveling, kayaking, and working on just about anything around the house.

Doug Sidell purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Doug Sidell chose Indian River

I didn't buy my vacation cabin, I built it! It is a home I designed and built in 2006 on the most perfect piece of Sturgeon River property. I chose to buy the land because it is so close to everything that is fun to do in Northern Michigan and because it would enable me to build the type of home I was looking to construct. The finished product is a three-story cabin with a finished, walk-out lower level, a main floor that's set up perfectly for entertaining inside and out, an upstairs that is well-suited for kids and adults, and views of the Sturgeon River just 50' in back of the house. There is a never ending supply of fun things to do; especially for families with children. A few that are really high on my list include: kayaking, fishing, swimming, rafting, canoeing, boating, snowmobiling, biking, hiking, motorcycle riding, X-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, etc. and it's all just outside the front door of my cabin. I love it! I hope you will to.

What makes this cabin unique

Some unique benefits I enjoy while staying at our cabin on the river include, but are not limited to: peace and quiet; late-night bonfires at the river; lots of room for all my guests/family members; space for the dogs to run around; going from the sauna to the hot tub over and over; playing some of my favorite golf courses all within a 30 minute drive; cooking/BBQing big meals; watching movies on the big screen TV; listening to the birds early in the morning while drinking coffee on the deck; catching trout right in back of the house; taking advantage of all the freedom!

Awesome Cabin, Great Location, Very Helpful Owner!

  • 5 of 5
Our family really enjoyed staying at Doug's cabin! It was perfect. We really enjoyed all the fun things to do in the Indian River area. Some of us kayaked, some biked the trails (right close to the cabin), some played golf. The hot tub and sauna were super popular too; sat in both most every night. What was especially meaningful to us is how well-decorated the cabin is with very nice furnishings and all the space. Of course the bonfire pit near the river was relaxing for us, too. We all highly recommend this cabin. The owner was very good to work with as well. Plus we could bring our dogs at no additonal charge!

Great location!!!

  • 5 of 5
Two families stayed for a week. Great time! Can kayak from site to Burt Lake State Park in about an hour, with only 4 mile drive from house to pick-up area. VERY well kept home. Also very pet friendly, as there is no carpet other than an area rug in the living room. We would love to come back!

Peaceful River setting

  • 5 of 5
Family reunion in Northern Michigan and we couldn't have picked a prettier place! I would highly recommend this home if you are looking for a spot that is near so much up north- Petoskey, Mackinaw city and island, and of course the two best lakes in Michigan Burt and Mullet!. We found the place to be spotless and the stay very comfortable.Loved the big backyard and campfire. Doug, the owner, was always quick to respond to any questions or concerns I had. I would love to go back and hope to someday!

Great family get-away

  • 5 of 5
Doug the owner and also the caretakers were very nice.
We had plenty of room to have privacy when needed.
The river was a challenge but really fun for the kids, and even the adults.
The evening bonfires were a treat. The property was beautiful and well kept.
Big Bear Adventure for tubing, the giant Cross in the Woods, Burt Lake state park and Ken Market were all 10 minutes from the cabin.
The kids went to Mackinaw and the Island and we also went to Petosky both about 30 minutes away.
Ice cream and antiques were also in the small town.
Thanks for a wonderful family vacation and all the memories.

Pure Michigan

  • 5 of 5
Such a great winter getaway cabin! Our group had a memorable experience and everyone was supremely impressed with the accommodations. The layout of the cabin was perfect for our group of eleven people as we had plenty of space during meal time and socializing afterwards. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and a foot of fresh snow made for ideal skiing and snowboarding conditions.

Doug was very pleasant to work through the booking with and was very helpful with answering any questions I had.

This cabin is certainly a destination spot to consider when planning a trip to northern Michigan. We plan to book again for a summer trip!

Snowmobile trip for the family

  • 5 of 5
We had great access to the snowmobile trails (just around the corner) and the snow was awesome. We took the snowmobiles to dinner up to Indiana River or Topinabee (Breakers was fun!) or down to Wolverine. All had places to eat on the trail.
We built a snowman by the river while the dogs were out with us. And the hottub was a great addition to our annual trip. We ended up skiing for a day too and the drive to Boyne Highlands was convenient. We had plenty of room for our party of 6. The neighborhood was great for talking a walk.

The house was clean and the neighbors that take care of the house were friendly and quick to respond when we needed help to fix a blown fuse. It was nicely shoveled for both vehicles and us walking the dogs out back. House had all the necessary amenities. Owner was quick to respond to question during reservation process. We would stay again when we need a place this size.
