We bought this house in 2007. It had been used as a rental property for about 30 years and was very neglected. We spent almost a year on the renovations and are very happy with the results. It truly has one of the best locations in Downtown Abingdon and we hope you will consider renting it for your next vacation.

A Lovely and Magical Home

  • 5 of 5
I needed a last minute place to stay due to the unexpected birth of my new granddaughter. Upon contacting this owner, I chose the Mary Connelly Penn home hands-down, mainly due to the owner's kindness and flexibility. Upon arrival I was so delighted at the location of the Mary Connelly Penn home which could not be better and is a primo part of Abingdon....directly across from The Tavern restaurant. The front porch is great for rocking and relaxing and the location directly on Main St. is magical, filled with charm and giving one the feeling of being back in time. The kitchen is lovely and state of the art. The bathroom is beautifully updated and the ceiling to floor glass shower is impressive.
We slept 4 adults comfortably using both bedrooms and 2 additional young adults stayed comfortably on the futon. There is also a screened in back porch with a small table, which offers another opportunity to sit outdoors. There is nice dining area with a large dining room table.

I cannot express how very delightful and extremely accomodating, the owner of this home is. She made renting this home a pleasure and she was so delightful and easy to work with. We have rented larger homes when flying into the Abingdon area but the charm of this home captured out heart. I would wholeheartedly encourage anyone considering renting this home to do so....I assure you that will be thrilled that you did!

A Stellar Rental

  • 5 of 5
We used this graciously appointed home to house a guest speaker our group brought to Abingdon. She told us she had never been treated so royally and had never had such elegant accommodation in forty years of speaking engagements. Everything was immaculately clean and helpful explanations were provided. The location on Main Street was within walking distance of all the most charming spots of Abingdon. If you cannot live in this house full time, the next best thing is to rent it short-term from Kristi and Bruce. Thank you for a stellar experience.

VA Creeper with Kids: Perfect House, Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5
The owner was prompt in responding, everything was as advertised, the house was clean and it is in fantastic shape, with things like coffee filters and spices already there (it's the little things). The bathroom, kitchen and dining room are really super.

The location was perfect for our trip (long weekend for a family of four). Right across the street from the Tavern (great restaurant), right up the street from Rain (another great restaurant), two blocks from the VA Creeper Bike Shop where we caught our shuttle to the top. We rode our bikes straight to the house when we finished the trail. You can also walk to the Barter Theater, etc etc.

Thanks for offering such a great house to rent!

Lovely Home, Exceeded Our Expectations

  • 5 of 5
What a lovely home! We had the privilege of staying at The Mary Connally Penn House while in town to attend the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Races at Bristol. The house met all of our needs and exceeded our expectations. The house is decorated extremely well, the beds were very comfortable, and we loved sitting on the porch! We walked down the street and ate at the Ellis Grill just past the Barter Theatre. We really hated to leave. Thank you, Kristi, for a wonderful stay.

Perfect Oasis

  • 5 of 5
Two friends and I have gotten into the habit of renting a house when we travel out of town and the Mary Connelly Penn house is one of the best. We are three mature women who value space and separate rooms and kitchen facilities - and, Abingdon in August, a robust air conditioning system. The house is perfectly decorated and the kitchen and bath are to die for (except for the water pressure in the shower - low). Beds are comfortable, sheets and towels are quality, kitchen is more than well equiped! The screened in back porch is lovely for breakfast and we loved rocking on the front porch in the evening and watching the town pass by. There is a sweet coffee/wine/gourment shop across the street as well as the tavern restaurant - and in cooler weather, walking to the town center would be quite pleasant. I highly recommend the Mary Connelly Penn house.
