Fantastic Winter Getaway!

5 of 5
Submitted: March 5, 2013 Stayed: January 2013
We just spent the majority of the ski season (Jan & Feb) staying here. My husband and I loved it! Just a 10 min drive to Butternut, the apartment is nestled in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood, but very close to all the happenings and fantastic restaurants in the Great Barrington area. This incredibly clean and neatly maintained "rustic meets modern" apartment is peppered with Sabina's interesting artwork and artistic touches. From the French press and goose down comforter to the washer and dryer, it was great having the comforts of home while on vacation. We would definitely return!

A Wonderful place in the Berkshires

5 of 5
Submitted: December 4, 2012 Stayed: November 2012
My wife and I came up here from New York, just after Hurricane Sandy, and booked for a well-needed one month respite. It has been a wonderful experience for us, and Sabine's little apartment has been terrific. It is clean and quiet, private, very tastefully decorated and has real charm, with lovely wooden floors throughout. The amenities are very well thought out too, with a great washer and dryer in the hallway, microwave, toaster oven and 2 burner stove in the kitchen. Sabine even supplies washing soaps, dryer sheets, shampoo, dish soap, etc. There is a really strong wifi signal in the bedroom, for those who need to stay in touch during their stay (it is not so strong in the other room). The bathroom is very nicely decorated, nothing fancy but clean and efficient. Good lighting all throughout the house, which is important to me. She also supplies books and videos on her shelves that are quite good.

The area surrounding the house is very nice too, beautifully pastoral/rural with nice walking options. Stockbridge is a very short 3 miles from the house, and the Norman Rockwell museum is a short walk up the road. Lenox is about 10 minutes to the north and Great Barrington is about 10 minutes to the south. Just driving around and exploring the nearby back roads is well worth it. The amazing Berkshire Bakery is about 7 minutes away and is a must when you are here ... in fact, you may end up there every day like we have. The Brick House Pub is also a wonderful place to have a beer, some great food, and watch the Sunday football games.

As for Sabine herself, she is a delightful woman and a very talented artist with abundant knowledge about the local area (restaurants, museums, hikes, etc.). She doesn't interfere with your stay in any way, but is very accommodating when or if she is needed. When you arrive she gives you a scrapbook she has put together with tips on where to dine, shop, hike, etc. Very nice touch.

If pressed to name any drawbacks, all I can think of is that the ceilings are low along the sides of the kitchen area, and in the doorways. Since I am 1.85 m tall I hit my head a few times (my wife had no such problems, I should add, and blames it on my own clumsiness!). The kitchen is small, but very efficient and we were able to fully function with cooking and having a normal home life.

I would absolutely recommend this place to others, and in fact I already have.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful report. I sure hope you will be back. And we need to have tea before you leave.

A bucolic charming place in the Berkshires

5 of 5
Submitted: December 3, 2011 Stayed: October 2011
We had long been wanting to come and visit the Berkshires, having been told about this beautiful area. It is plainly true! But for doing so we needed a place to live in armony with. We have discovered it in Glandale near Stockbridge to Sabine's rental where we spent the whole month of october. How refreshing and revitalizing!
Not only found we all we needed apartment-fitting wise: ( perfectly in accordance with the listing) but we have discovered a so nice and caring lodger who made it her duty to provide us with all she could about where to go, places to be seen, good restaurants, museums and so forth, which is so important for foreigners.
In short, a place for nature-lovers who wish to enjoy the landscapes and become acquainted with kind and welcoming people.
No doubt we will talk about the place around us, we have already did it actually!
Owner's Response: Pleasure on my side. Thank you so much for being the ambassador in France for THE BERKSHIRES, here in North America. We hope that many curious travelers, like you, will enjoy the apartment as well.
Cheers and
Merci!

Bucolic apartment in the Berkshires

5 of 5
Submitted: September 6, 2011 Stayed: June 2011
This apartment is wonderful. It's very private and quiet. And has more than everything you could want, including a wonderful washer and dryer in the unit, which is unusual. The owner is very accommodating.
The house itself is built into a hill and the space we rent is the upper floor. You walk up the hill a little and there is a big yard and a porch that is all yours.

I think I would call the whole setting refreshing.
I stayed there alone but you could bring children. I think they would be delighted with it. I also went in June before the crowds and when the trees and lawns are very green and the Berkshires are glorious.

A charming place to call home!

5 of 5
Submitted: September 10, 2010 Stayed: September 2010
I just returned to Boston from my 8 day reprieve in the Berkshires. I found this rental to be my home away from home. I have never slept so well on vacation. The bed is super comfy and it is just the most restful atmosphere you can find. Everyday, I enjoyed long walks and bike rides on scenic roads winding through the hills. For the upcoming leaf-peeping season, this would be an ideal spot... right close to the Housatonic River, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Tanglewood and dozens of roadside farm stands with the most delicious fresh produce, herbs and flowers. (I didn't want to leave!) Sabine is a wonderful lady and her home is well kept and truly charming. I will definitely be renting this property again, and I highly recommend this hidden gem.
