Photos and Description of the Chicxulub vacation house rental 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 7 (with sleeper sofa)

The beach house has large, airy rooms, multi-paned windows for enjoying the cooling Gulf breezes, and views of the Gulf from either floor. We've combined local taste and decor with a desire for comfort, and hope you enjoy the easy-going ambiance of Casa Brillante. The little house at the rear of the property is screened in to provide an open-air entertainment area with ratan bar. A charcoal grill is also available, and can be used under the extended roof in case of rain. The main house has a fully-equipped kitchen and service for eight. The downstairs bathroom has easy access from the rinsing shower on the side porch when you're coming in from the pool or the Gulf. Each of the three bedrooms have direct access to the upstairs bathroom. The northern bedroom has a private entrance from the balcony. This bedroom and the eastern room both have views of the Gulf while the southern bedroom overlooks the back garden, the 'casita', and the pool area.

The area is probably best known for the Mayan ruins. Chichen Itza, the most visited site, is possible with an early start. Uxmal, even more impressive with its intricate carvings, is only about a 2-hour trip each way. Minor ruin sites (Dzibilchaltun and Xcambo) are each within a half-hour drive. Additional day trips that are easily-done: swim in the natural wells (cenotes), or tour haciendas, cathedrals, or caves. Go out with a local fisherman in his 'lancha', or drive 10 minutes to watch flamingos feeding in the salt flats. Or...put your book down, get out of your hammock, and go for a swim in the emerald waters of the Gulf, or for a dip in the pool. A great place to go adventuring or to lay back and take it easy. Lots of restaurants in Progreso (a 10- minute drive), as well as Wallmart-style shopping and/or Mexican market shopping. Chicxulub Puerto is a laid-back fishing village where it's easy to find fresh fried fish and the basics. 40 minutes from the Merida airport.

Other Activities: Swimming, beach combing, shell collecting and bird watching can all be done from the beach in front of the house. Five minutes' drive east takes you to a viewing tower for flamingos. Water sports equipment is available for rent only a few kilometers away; fishing trips can be arranged. The minor Mayan ruin sites of X-Cambo and Dzibilchaltun are within half-hour drives, and the impressive site of Uxmal is about an hour and a half to the south. A bi-lingual driver can be hired for day trips. Progreso (10 minutes west) has any number of restaurants and some tourist shops, while Chicxulub Puerto has a limited number of each. The beautiful colonial city of Merida with its Cathedral, Governor's Palace, parks, museums and innumerable shops and restaurants is about a 40-minute drive, with a golf course on the way.

Wonderful Time in Chicxulub

My husband and I (and 2 dogs) stayed here for 5 weeks in December 2007. The house was beautiful and had everything we would ever need. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking anything you wanted. We made a full Christmas dinner with no problems. The pool was wonderful and the yard was well kept by the very friendly and helpful caretaker. The owners are great (and very funny I might add) and could answer any questions we might have about the surrounding areas. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone who loves the beach!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Beautiful, quiet, relaxing

We stayed at this beach house on 2 occasions and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is large enough to be comfortable, but furnished to be cozy. Great kitchen/dining area...good for entertaining. Breakfast on the 2nd floor veranda was our favorite way to start the day. Close enough to Progreso to be convenient, but far enough away to be peaceful.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
