BEAUTIFUL CANALFRONT COTTAGE, PERFECT FOR COUPLES!

Ocracoke House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 2-3)

Second Wind cottage is a real home away from home...guests often comment that staying here is like visiting friends.

Great care is taken by the owners to ensure the comfort of every guest. The cottage is perfect for a couple, or a couple with a small child.

It has an open, airy floor plan with lots of windows and two sliding glass doors leading to decks that overlook the canal, a very well-equipped kitchen, and many small touches that help make your stay more pleasurable. We pride ourselves on offering a clean, comfortable, and well maintained cottage.

If you've never been to Ocracoke, you're in for a treat. It's one of the most unique places many will have the chance to visit. With 13 miles of pristine beach, it's no wonder it was voted the number one beach in the country in 2007. It's not hard to fall in love with the easy going, laid back lifestyle.

If you're in the mood to stay busy, there's lots to do from inshore and offshore fishing with native guides, biking, raking your own clams, kayaking and parasailing to shopping and trying one of the many great restaurants on the island.

If you're more into relaxing, kick back on the porch in one of our locally made Adirondack chairs and watch egrets, ducks and otters off the back deck, or chill out with a book or movie from the house.

If you have been here before, there's always a few new places to check out and a chance to rediscover why you came to Ocracoke in the first place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We came to Ocracoke for a getaway from home responsibilities, it has been more than we ever hoped for. This cottage keeps growing on us - don't want to leave!

The cottage is charming. It gave us each privacy and yet common area. We adored eating on the lower deck and grilling outside.

We found all the dishes, cooking utensils and even spices we needed. Everything was immaculate! Love the decor - kept finding a wall art I hadn't taken in fully.

We visited every shop that was open - great breakfast at Dajio, Thai Moon take out was perfect on a rainy night. Loved Zillie's.

Obviously, I could go on and on about our week but this fabulous dwelling enhanced our stay.

The people here are so down to earth, personable and full of information. My husband spent time visitine with the shopkeepers as I perused the wares! We did take a day to Hatteras and enjoyed the lighthouses but couldn't wait to return to 'our island'.

Thank you Steph and Larry for providing such a lovely, comfortable accommodation. If everyone enjoyed this stay as much as we did, the island would become quite crowded!

10 and Counting

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I just returned from the Second Wind cottage a few days ago. We realized that we just finished our 10th visit to this property. While the recent reviews contain all the details about the great amenities, I believe having visited 10 times speaks volumes! We never get tired up of pulling up to this house and staying in the same place. We know it will always be comfortable, clean and full of the simple things you might need to enjoy a place away from home. Here's an example... a pair of scissors. Most of us can't keep a pair handy in our own homes, but when you need them, they're available. (Crazy, but other reviewers have described the normal stuff) It's the simple things in this beautiful cottage that will keep you happy. The owners deserve the biggest compliment though, as they are wonderful people who are truly concerned about your comfort and maintaining a beautiful place to vacation. Thank you for sharing a little piece of Paradise on Ocracoke Island!

The most perfect retreat!

  • 5 of 5
This was our 4th year to vacation on Ocracoke, and we could not have chosen a more perfect house! My husband, 5 yo daughter, and I had an amazing week biking around the island, soaking up the sun on the beach, and exploring the canal behind the house. To say that this house is well stocked does not do it justice....beach chairs? Check! Umbrella? Check! Completely awesome kitchen with everything you need? Check! We didn't need half of what we brought, because Steph had thought of everything! The house itself is amazing....cool (we slept with the windows open almost every night!), nicely decorated, and so comfortable! I would definitely recommend it for couples and for a couple with a younger child.

Awesome place, awesome weekend!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I rented this beautiful cottage for a 3-night getaway. We were so impressed with this place that we were already planning next year's trip before we even had a whole day there. This cute cottage has plenty of space and really has everything you would need for an enjoyable stay - a comfy bedroom, clean bathrooms, a well-stocked kitchen as far as utensils, dishes, etc, a charcoal grill, beach chairs, plenty of living and "hanging out" space. We were able to see everything we wanted to see on the island by way of the beach cruisers we rented for the weekend. We truly enjoyed the peace, quiet and relaxation of the weekend. A+ - perfect accommodations. Thank you! We will be back.

Perfection

  • 5 of 5
We read the previous reviews before choosing this cottage and yet we packed our SUV to capacity with items we were sure we would need for a week on the island. Save yourself the effort -- Steph has thought of everything! The cottage itself is beautifully and comfortably decorated, but the amenities included are incredible. The cottage is so well-stocked, literally the only items you need to are your personal clothing, toiletries, and food/drink. We packed a kayak, beach chairs, and a grill -- all on hand at the cottage. There are beach towels, beach umbrellas, a crab trap, fishing rods, an oyster knife ... the list just goes on and on. My personal favorite was the soft fleece blanket for use with the inside or outside chaises. It rained and/or stormed all but one day of our stay (usually not long or hard enough to deter our excursions for long) and it was wonderful having such a comfortable home to which to retreat and refresh. Jerry especially enjoyed that he could access the canal with his kayak from our back yard and that he had a crab or two from our dock to throw in the boil each night. We were visited by a gorgeous egret one morning and were awakened every morning by the coos of a dove nesting nearby. (and sometimes squawks when she ran off an annoying seagull). Our best experience on the island was our time at Springer's Point in which we saw only two thru-hikers the entire afternoon. Best food was the Flying Melon. We had a few chuckles adjusting to "island time" -- nothing opens early or stays open late ... and can close on a whim. It was hit or miss for us all week, but thankfully it was not a long bike ride to the next place or back to the cottage. And, yes, definitely take your bikes. Other than 4-wheeling out to the beach, we pedaled everywhere. The terrain is flat, everything is nearby, and the locals are used to bikes, golf carts, and mopeds everywhere. Thank you for a restful and memorable break. We cannot praise the cottage or the island highly enough.

Great Ocracoke Spot

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I planned a quick getaway to Ocracoke for some rest, relaxation and piece and quite. That is just what we got!!

The home is nicely equipped and is just darling. Washer, Dryer, two bathrooms, well equipped kitchen, right on the water, large bedroom . . I could go on. Very clean with thoughtful items like flashlights (we used for night time bike ride), pens and paper, even grill with shishkabob sticks!

The location is just a short bike ride to the village, we biked several times.

Very quiet area made for nice nights on the back deck (one of two) . . . best was listening to the wind blow through the cedars.

We will be back in the fall for another weekend trip away from our home.

(PS- I am in the vacation rental business on an island south of Ocracoke, I was very pleased. Take it from a pro . . Steph knows how to make you feel at home!!)

We loved it here

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time staying at Ocracoke at this wonderful house. It was clean, spacious, and well-appointed with everything we needed. The title and photos really say it all - it's a beautiful place and perfect for couples! Enjoyed being so close to Flying Melon too! We would definitely recommend this property and hope to go back for another visit.
