THE CUTEST LITTLE COTTAGE ON THE DOWNEAST COAST!

Gouldsboro Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, fold down futon couch, 1 bathroom, sleeps 4

This really is the cutest little cottage on the Downeast coast, with magnificent views and shoreline, situated only feet from pristine Gouldsboro Bay! This charming and quiet get-away was lovingly rebuilt from the ground up by the owner just a few years ago and is beautifully landscaped. Awake to early morning sun and watch lobstermen hauling traps and seals swimming by, right from your bed! Enjoy the ever changing views with the 12-foot tides and look for eagles, osprey and terns. Lounge on the deck and read, walk the shore looking for sea glass, try the bikes or hike some local trails. Use the available kayaks or canoe and ply the waters of the Bay or launch your own boat and use the owner's deep water dock, guest mooring and dinghy. Come along for a ride on the owner's 25' sailboat and sail out to the rugged islands where seals and sea birds abound and see Petit Manan Lighthouse. Join the owner for a ride in the skiff and pick up dinner right off a lobster boat!

More about on-site activities:: There is easy access to the shore right beside the cottage where you can launch the available kayaks and canoe - or take in and out at the owner's dock right next door. You can explore the sparkling waters of Gouldsboro Bay as well as nearby West Bay and Joy Bay. Paddle alongside lobster buoys and lobster boats as you enjoy the views from the water of the pine studded granite coastline.

In addition to hiking the shoreline in either direction, it is also pleasant to walk along our quiet dead end road, and the trails beyond. Everyone you meet will give you a friendly greeting at the very least.

When the mackerel are running, fish from the owner's deep-water dock with a line that will bring up three at a time - no fishing license is required for ocean fishing.

Nearby Activities:: Visit the very scenic and less crowded part of Acadia National Park on the nearby Schoodic Peninsula (20 minute drive) with it's spectacular rocky shore, crashing surf and gorgeous views of Mt. Desert Island. The villages of Prospect Harbor, Corea and Winter Harbor on the Schoodic Peninsula are quaint and picturesque. Winter Harbor is also home to Hammond Hall, the focus of many cultural events, especially in the summer.

About 20 minutes in the opposite direction is the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge where there are a variety of inland and shore trails for hiking - don't forget to bring your camera.

If you're looking for a nice day trip, the main portion of Acadia National Park and bustling Bar Harbor are about an hour's drive away.

Only minutes away, you can visit our local winery, Bartlett Maine Estate Winery and sample their exquisite fruit wines.

Public golf courses are located in nearby Winter Harbor and Sorrento.

A LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN!

  • 5 of 5
I cannot even begin to express what an amazing vacation we had in Gouldsboro staying in this cottage! It was obvious the cottage was built with much thought and care. The cottage was spotless when we arrived and all the amenities made it feel just like home. In the living area there is a binder full of recommendations and suggestions of things to do, places to go, maps, etc. This was incredibly helpful for us to plan our days. We loved that the cottage came with the use of kayaaks, our own private beach, and the opportunity to cook lobsters dropped off to the dock by the local lobster boats. The owners, Bonnie and Chubba, were incredibly hospitable, kind and just a pleasure to be around. They even treated us to our first sailing adventure! We feel so lucky to have found this cottage and are already planning our next vacation here.

ABSOLUTE PARADISE!

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed the best vacation we have ever had together here with Bonnie and Chubba. The location is idyllic and private but close enough to MDI's attractions and the towns of the Schoodic Peninsula. The binder in the cottage was most helpful and informative. Also, as other posters have said, the boat ride for lobsters and sights is beyond compare. We will be back, most certainly!

SUMMER VACATION

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our vacation at the Maine cottage. It is so lovely! The views of the water are exactly as pictured, and the lush gardens with butterflies and little rock sculptures are all around. The home was so clean and well appointed.
The owners are very welcoming and provided us with information about area hiking, local spots to eat (Joshy's and Pikes were favorites) and even a boat ride to see the bay and learn about the area. They provided kayaks, bikes and helmets and showed us where everything was so we could use the kayaks or canoe whenever.
I also loved the quiet of the home, it is on a dead-end and you can hear the water lapping on shore, but no cars. This made for peaceful walks down the road and very quiet nights.
We like to hike, so we took a ride to Acadia which was so easy, we went back the next day to hike the mountain. We also took a hike at the nearby areas of Schoodic Peninsula, and the nature preserve. We visited the organic farm to shop and the grocery store in the next town which had lots of organic choices and local food as well. Some of the more touristy things we did were Granite Garden which I enjoyed and touring the harbors on our own. Next time we go I want to try the ferry to Acadia which is nearby and seems a better option due to the bus system operating at the Park.
I would recommend this cottage to everyone. We had a wonderful time and plan to go back!

PICK THIS ONE.

  • 5 of 5
I read the reviews before my husband and I chose this spot for our belated honeymoon. It's true what they say; Bonnie and Chubba are the perfect hosts. They took us out in their little boat to see the bay and to buy lobsters. Chubba gave my husband a crash course in cooking said lobsters. Bonnie provided us with flawless driving directions from Boston Logan and suggested several places we might go and things we might do. They were amazing, and so was the cabin. It's quiet, romantic, spotless and in a gorgeous location. Being from the Midwest, we never tired of just gazing out the windows at the water, especially on clear nights. We might have been content to stay in all week, but with Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula a mere 15 minutes down the road, we couldn't resist. Goldsboro is about an hour's scenic drive from Bar Harbor, and I understand there's a ferry that reduces travel time, and yet you'll feel a world away from the tourist towns when you sit out on the porch with a glass of wine at the end of the day. From linens to cookware, everything is provided. I would only suggest that you stop on your way in to pick up some groceries. The nearest proper grocery store is in Milbridge some 15 miles up Rte. 1. Choose this cabin. You'll find yourself echoing the reviews you've read just as I have.

PEACEFUL MUSINGS

  • 5 of 5
I would recommend this cottage to anyone one wants to "get away from it all." Peaceful, pristine surroundings, the cottage was immaculate and attractive with all necessities provided. The hosts, Chubba and Bonnie, were warm and welcoming as well as informative about local sight-seeing spots.

The cottage is situated to take full advantage of beautiful Gouldsboro Bay. There is little to distract you from the surrounding natural beauty as our dead end road is very quiet - the lobster boats make more noise than the cars! There is easy access to the shore right in front of the cottage where you can comb the beach, sit on the beautiful pink granite rocks, or launch the kayaks/canoe. There is also access to the owner's deep water dock where you can fish and use a guest mooring (a public landing 1/3 mile away). Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge is 15 minutes away and offers great hiking. The quiet Schoodic Peninsula portion of Acadia National Park is just 20 minutes away, where you can enjoy crashing waves and views of Mt. Desert Island. You can take the ferry to Bar Harbor for the day from nearby Winter Harbor. As for cultural entertainment, there are numerous performances and activities throughout the summer and fall in this special area of Downeast Maine.
