WARM, WELCOMING WATERFRONT, RELAXING AND CLOSE TO EVERYTHING

Cambridge Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Farmhouse, 6 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 14-18)

Welcome to the Swan's Nest! You won't find a better location or nicer property on the Eastern Shore. Our gracious and charming 6 bedroom farmhouse is well-equipped for small or large groups and can serve up to 18 guests. The kitchen is well-stocked with quality equipment and plenty of pots and pans. The bedrooms are private and very comfortable and match the country hominess of days gone by. Remember sleeping porches? Try ours on a moonlit night with a star-filled sky. You can actually see the stars! The Swan's nest is close to town for the modern conveniences yet seemingly a step back in time when relaxation, reconnecting and rejuvenation were more important for family vacations.

What can you do on 50 acres of waterfront property? Explore with a morning walk and a cup of coffee. Watch the sunrise over the Little Choptank River and Fishing Creek. Enjoy the putting green right on the property. Play any number of outdoor games like volleyball, basketball, soccer, frisbee, wiffleball and horseshoes on the spacious lawn. Bikes are provided so take a long bikeride. Stroll down to your 120 foot deepwater pier (you can even jump off and swim in the creek). Enjoy the canoe, kayak, johnboat, paddleboat and paddle board. Relax on your sandy beach. During season catch delectable crabs right off the pier and cook them up for dinner. Tired yet? Go back to the house and collapse in the comfortable hammock!

The Swan's Nest offers an incredible array of wildlife that calls our 50 acres 'home'. You may see the beautiful and majestic American bald eagle, bobwhite quail, wild turkeys, whitetail deer, Canada geese, various types of ducks and, of course, cottontail

rabbits. Fishing Creek, the Little Choptank, and the Bay,offer a multitude of fishing opportunities and a variety of species, including the famous and delicious striped bass known locally as the 'Rockfish'.

This is Chesapeake Bay country living at its best......The Swan's Nest.

Great place for a large family.

There was plenty of room for our large extended family. Loved the porch and the sleeping porch. Could use some updating and we were disappointed that the paddle boat was not usable nor was the jet ski. The owner should probably either fix them or take them off the amenities. Overall we had a good time though!

Owner's Response: Thanks for commenting on your recent stay at the Swan's Nest. We appreciate your taking the time to suggest areas for us to improve our
guest services. We no longer offer our family jetski for guests due to
liability concerns. We are sorry for the inconvenience you may have
experienced. After your departure, we asked the next guests to check the paddleboat, as we did ourselves, and found it to be fine.
We will take the necessary steps to be sure our 2014 guests are able to use it and, again, thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Great Place for Large Family

Great for our annual family vacation. Nice to have a place that was pet friendly. Hap (owner) was great and very accommodating. The sleeping porch and downstairs porch were very nice. This is Perfect Venue for outdoor wedding. Living Room/kitchen could use updating. Some furniture worn/torn. Internet connection should be updated. Bed in the Mariner bedroom broken sitting directly on floor. Downstairs a/c breaker overloaded several times a day. Jet Ski/Jon boat not operational disappointing as this was one of the reasons we chose Swan's Nest. Plenty of linens/towels/toys for kids although several bikes need attention. Overall... a nice place to visit

Owner's Response: Thanks for your constructive comments about the Swan's Nest. We are
continually upgrading the furnishings and amenities for the enjoyment of our guests. At the time of your visit, a bedframe for the new queen bed was on order but hadn't arrived. The circuit breaker that was tripping during your visit has been repaired. We have also upgraded our internet service. We provide at least 10 bikes for our guests to enjoy, all sizes for all ages. Occasionally, one or two may need air in their tires (we provide a pump) or slight adjustments to brakes, seats, etc. We hope you found them roadworthy to allow your family to enjoy the many miles of flat, open road to ride nearby the Swan's Nest. Thanks for taking the time to suggest areas for us to improve our service.

great family vacation

Swan's Nest had a lot to offer our extended family (ages 7-90). Lots of room for sleeping,
lots of equipment and room to play, and plenty of dishes, glasses, etc. Owner Hap was extremely helpful, accessible, and also delightful. Grounds are wonderful. House could use some updating and brightening--specifically kitchen and downstairs living room. The sunporch is lovely, and upstairs sleeping porch is very pleasant. We had record heat and didn't use the sleeping porch much, but it is very lovely.
A working outdoor shower also would be an asset. Another tip--we would have liked another place to put our many bags of trash.
Boating equipment was not exactly as described--only one kayak. There was a paddleboat that didn't work. There was some other boating equipment around and kids improvised.

We didn't leave the property except to buy outstanding local produce and pick up necessities at supermarket close by. Everyone was very happy to stay on the property.

Hap put us in touch with the wonderful Sylvia, who catered a great crab/boil and bbq. birthday dinner one night. She was great.

Owner seemed open to suggestions . WE WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND SWAN'S NEST FOR A FAMILY WHO WANTS TO RELAC AND ENJOY OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES--FRISBEE, SOCCER, BASKETBALL, BIKING, FISHING, CRABBING. AND PING PONG WAS BIG HIT.

TREMENDOUS place for a reunion or any type of large group gathering

Stayed at Swan's Nest with a group of 15 old HS and college buddies. We'd planned on exploring the MD shore, leaving the property periodically in groups, but it turned out there was no need. Everything we needed was on site--we could have big group volleyball games, a great fire on the water, boating, etc. Also great for such a big group--we could split up into smaller groups, some playing ping pong on the great porch, some kayaking in the surrounding marshes, some enjoying the big house, etc. Hap was great in terms of setting up everything we needed, the property was clean and in great shape, and everything we needed, from bedding, to a fully-equipped kitchen, was right on-site. The morning we left, we all said we could've easily spent another week at Swan's Nest, and never gotten bored--highly recommended for any type of group. Thanks Hap!

My daughter's Wedding at Swan's Nest

My daughter's Wedding at Swan's Nest

Both the bride and groom's immediate families stayed at Swan's Nest for 3 days before and one day after the wedding.....visiting, relaxing, and fishing, swimming, and boating off the pier. Then on Sunday, we had the wedding ceremony (110 wedding guests) down by the pier and the wedding reception was under a large wedding tent erected in the large backyard behind the house. The setting by the pier for the wedding ceremony was beautiful, looking over the water. Though the weather was pretty hot and we had some rain and mud, everyone had a wonderful time. We had sunny weather for the wedding ceremony and the wedding pictures afterwards. By the time it started raining at about 9:00pm, we were all under the tent, dancing, so the rain was not a problem. But that turned out to be the cue for the bride & groom and many of the wedding guests to go outside the tent and dance in the rain. The next morning, many people said they thought that was the best part of the wedding. My daughter's wedding dress did get "a bit" muddy, but that is not important because she had such wonderful time and, like everyone else that was there, has many great memories of her wedding day and all the days spent at Swan's Nest.

Swan's Nest is a large enough house, with 6 bedrooms, 2 living rooms (one on the first floor and one on the second floor), a large wrap-around porch(on the first floor) facing the backyard and the water, so that it never felt crowded with the 20 family members and friends who were staying there (the rest of the wedding guests stayed in 3 hotels just 15 minutes away).

The owners, Hap & Christine, couldn't have been nicer. Even though they do not live in Cambridge, Hap was at Swan's Nest for parts of four days, sprucing up the yard and helping us prepare for the wedding, which included the wedding tent, tables & chairs, the mobile restroom, the generator, the ice trailer, the caterer, the dj, and the wedding ceremony chairs down by the pier.

This was more than just a wedding.....it was five days of enjoying Swan's Nest and all it had to offer, culminating in a wonderful and memorable wedding.
