About Laura James Property Manager

David and Laura vacationed on the 4x4 beach in 2000. Before they left that week, they had purchased a lot that would become the site for their future home. Having built and restored many homes in the past, this new location provided a new opportunity to create the perfect home for themselves and their family. As it turned out, the perfect home was not one that needed to be built, just moved 10 miles from it's location in Whalehead Beach.

Laura James Property Manager purchased this house in 2005

Why Laura James Property Manager chose Carova

This location was one that suited our sense of nostalgia, since the old Coast Guard Lifesaving Station was in sight. When we moved the house from Whalehead, we had to make a tough decision. We had to decide whether to place the home to take advantage of the tremendous views or keep the main entry out of the path of nor'easters. The view won! While we enjoy the views from the deck, the main views are enjoyed from the kitchen island, where we can watch the breakers, birds, dolphins and an occasional whale.

What makes this house unique

This home is comfortable, without being worrisome. There aren't too many ways to wreck it, which allows for true relaxation.

Perfect getaway!

The house was perfect, from location to amenities. I saw lots of wild horses and weather was good. The house has any and everything you could possible need or want. Laura answered all my emails and questions right away and was very helpful. I plan to go back and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

Comfortable home in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5
This was our first trip to the Outer Banks and our stay at Saltbox was better than we could have imagined. First of all, the location couldn't possibly be any more amazing. The distance up the beach provided a secluded and quiet place for us to enjoy. Though there were definitely other people around and on the beach, space is plentiful and it's easy to have lots to yourself. Though this distance away from the paved roads into peace and quiet might be a downside for some, for us it was the ultimate bonus. Further, it was still relatively easy (and fun) to go into town as needed (e.g., for the essential trips for ice cream cones). Saltbox's location as the 2nd house from the beach couldn't be any more convenient. The view was amazing, and the beach was almost literally a stones throw away. You can pack your truck/SUV (extremely convenient) or just walk down. The house is very well equipped and exactly as it looks in the pictures. I have stayed at a lot of rentals, and it is very rare to find a sharp knife in the kitchen, let alone decent cookware, tupperware, and a variety of appliances. Furnishings are comfortable, but not fancy, so you really do feel like you're at home. This place is absolutely perfect for kids (ours are 20 months and 4 years). Not too much for them to get into with lots of fun games and toys. The house was very clean. The beds are somewhat on the firm side, so if you're a pillowtop mattress lover, you might consider bringing one of those egg crate things. Also, the internet can get quite slow in the evenings. Neither of these made even the slightest difference to us. We saw horses every day we were there, from the moment we arrived to the morning we left. To the delight of our kids, they were frequent visitors (along with rabbits) to the yard.
Laura was very helpful/kind/friendly in the whole process. She answered any questions we had throughout and prior to our stay and was immediately responsive to our one minor issue (needing a different set of sheets). Area restaurants are somewhat overpriced (tourist prices) and ultimately not all that amazing, so planning to pack meals to enjoy at the house is a good idea. You really won't want to leave anyway. I would highly recommend Saltbox as a place to stay. We are hoping to return next year and would have liked to stay longer this year.

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5
This was our second time staying at Saltbox. We loved it so much last year that we decided to stay for two weeks this year! The house is in a wonderful location. It seems like the beach is getting crowded anywhere lower than milepost 20, so this was a great location to be away from the congestion. The house is wonderful..... we loved the updates to the kitchen. Everything you could possibly need is already at the house. The house is well kept and clean and the owners are fantastic and went out of their way for us. Not only will I recommend this place to others, but I plan to continue to vacation there for years to come. Definitely worthwhile!

Saltbox is located on the beautiful and secluded 4 wheel drive beaches in the northern most section of the Outer Banks. Just four miles from the Virginia border, but accessed only by the road to the south, this location is as remote as it gets for a vacation destination. After leaving the hard road, travel 7 miles on the sand and turn in at mile post 20. Saltbox is the second home on the left. Wild horses will visit you as this area boasts a herd of 150 wild Spanish mustangs. Remote as it is, if you travel to Corolla, you will find many shopping and activity options.

The town of Corolla was established in the early 1700's. http://www.corollaguide.com/history/

There are local walking tours and other guided tours. There are many upscale restaurants, surfing and boarding activities, a wildlife museum, The Whalehead Club Museum, Heritage Festival Park, the Currituck Lighthouse and numerous shopping opportunities. Two major grocery stores, Harris Teeter and Food Lion carry most any provisions you may need. Roanoke Island is a 1 hour drive and is considered to be the area of the first European settlement in this country. Take a 25 minute drive to the village of Duck and discover many different clothing and variety shops as well as Para- sailing and numerous boating adventures. Or just stock up and spend your vacation at our lovely beach home paradise. It is especially enjoyable in the fall, when the water is still warm, the tourists are few, and the rental rates are lower. Be sure to bring your 4x4, as this adventure is not available without one....
