MARAIS DISTRICT CHARMING 1-BEDROOM 4 SLEEPS

I have to agree with most points made by JSonthePlateau – a lovely little apartment and a really great location, sadly let down by a few minor gripes.

The thin walls and poor bed (actually two singles that kept moving apart) did not bother us that much. The apartment also lacked a couple of basics such as a kitchen bin and a kettle and the TV reception was atrocious.

Our major concern was the flat wasn't all that clean – dust and fluff had built up around taps, toilet and bin, old loo rolls hadn't been cleared away, and the floor clearly hadn't been hoovered. All of this came as a bit of a disappointment as we'd paid a 50 euro supplement for linen, towels and cleaning.

I emailed the letting agents about this and I did receive an apology and assurances that it doesn't normally happen, but when I responded asking if we could be refunded the cost of cleaning I received no reply.

We were in Paris this October and this location was absolutely perfect. It is a cosy little apartment in Le Marais close to a lot of really good restaurants and shops. Be warned: It's four flights of slippery (old smooth wood) stairs to go up each time. There was a slight issue with the bathroom and the doors not being impeccably clean... The bed is a bit soft and the rooms would benefit from having more opaque curtains and the walls are paper thin (Parisians are very passionate people...).

The contact person gave us some great ideas for restaurants when we arrived (we arrived quite late) and was quite helpful. The management does give you a lot of information by email for your reservation and this was helpful. All told, I would still recommend this place for a Paris escape.

My husband and I stayed at the little apartment in the Marais for our 25th wedding anniversary and are dreaming of when we can come back! Clean, tidy, tranquil setting with typically French tall windows overlooking the inner courtyard from the living room and the street from the bedroom. The bathroom (with shower, toilet and bidet) was immaculate and beautifully designed. A small kitchen is perfect for cooking small meals after finding your favourite bakery, wine store, florist and other little grocery store just one street over (on rue de Bretagne). Very efficient and charming all at the same time.

The location in the Marais is within walking distance to most anywhere in Paris, and close to the Metro as well. Wear good walking shoes! By the end of the week, the climb up the stairs to the apartment was much easier (with all the exercise). Wonderful cafes nearby and lots of shopping! One tip - pick up a small Paris street directory (with the blue cover) at any newsstand - small enough to discretely fit into a pocket and much less cumbersome than larger fold-up maps. Everyone seems to have one there, not just tourists!

The agency representative (Christophe) was so very helpful in meeting us at the apartment, arranging the outgoing shuttle to the airport, and answering any questions we had. As stated before, we are dreaming about the chance to return and would most definitely stay at the same apartment! We are happy to recommend this experience and this agency.
