Enjoy an unforgettable holiday, in the heart of the amazing Alpujarras, on the fertile southern slopes of the snow capped Sierra Nevada, a remote, rural area with stunning views of the mountains and a mild Mediterranean climate from the nearby coast. This villa has been built in traditional Andalucía-Arabic style and children are warmly welcomed. The holiday home and the location have a lot to offer to families and those with a spirit for adventure as well as to those seeking rest and relaxation. The peace of the countryside can be enjoyed in the large garden, while reading under the shade of an olive tree beside the childproof, gated pool, playing football with the kits or spending a summer evening at the barbecue. You can go on short walks directly from the land, take day trips to the nearby coast or up to the whitewashed, winding mountain villages. It takes 40 minutes (34 miles) by car to get to Granada, one of the most beautiful and lively historic cultural cities in the world.

Attractive specific features of the property: Due to their location in the unparalleled, evergreen even in the heat of summer, Alpujarras, between the sunny coast and the high mountains of Granada, our holiday cottage is the ideal place to get to know Andalucia intimately, away from the tourist hustle and bustle. It is an ideal starting point to do any kind of walks and excursions. Straight from the house, you can enjoy wonderful walks through the valley or up to the hills. By car, you can take trips to the high part of the 'Las Alpujarras' with its white and picturesque mountain villages or to the peaks of Sierra Nevada, up to 3484m high and full of rare animals, wild rivers and untouched lagoons, resting in peace. In 25 minutes you get to the coast and in 40 minutes to Granada. Day trips can be taken to cities like Cordoba, Ronda or Seville, or National Parks like Sierra de Grazalema, Sierra de Cazorla, Cabo de Gato etc. In addition to this, the holiday homes are only 80km away from the Sierra Nevada ski resorts. Interesting specific features of culture: The time of the Moors and Arab rule lasted almost 900 years and left more of an impression on The Alpujarras than on any other region of Spain. The legacy of Arabic art and culture can still be seen in the style of buildings, the intricate irrigation system, and the local crafts, music and art. From the Arabs came recipes, which creatively combine meat or fish with fruit and herbs. They brought figs, pomegranates, citrus fruit, olives and melons with them and these sun-loving fruits are still flourishing in The Alpujarras today, alongside strawberries, prickly pears, peaches, cherries, apples, pears, quince, walnuts, chestnuts and almonds. On the property, there are about 30 different fruit trees, and the whole year one can pick fresh fruits right from the tree, ripe oranges even from October to June. The flowering time starts in February with the almond flower, the famous and historically significant and revered orange tree blossom (El Azahar) smells during the whole month of April.

Specific features of local cuisine: The Alpujarran cuisine doesn't boast any refinements, it's more about the earthy real tastes of the ingredients - and thanks to the variety of altitudes and climate zones here there's an abundance of foods on offer: air dried mountain ham, all types of sausages and cheese, meat, fish and vegetables, potatoes and eggs prepared in various ways, fruit, as well as every possible variation on olives. Many of these fine ingredients lend their charm to all sorts of Tapas, delicious nibbles whose home is Andalucía; accompanied by a glass of sherry, the world famous wine from the sunshine land of the Spanish south.

Our rates are for the whole property and all bills for 4 people incl. Wi-Fi, gas, electricity, a basic pantry with essentials (herbs, spices, vinegar, oil, sugar, honey, coffee, tea, wash powder, etc), and fire wood in winter. Only the end cleaning fee of 45 € for our cleaning staff and the single charge of 40,- € for the complete laundry (whole quality bed linen sets, bedside rugs, big and small bath towels, pool towels, set of soap and toilet paper, kitchen towels, new sponge and dish cloth and a 'Welcome-food pack' for a first snack) will be charged once and locally on arrival, as one unique cost, independent of the length of stay. Extra beds are 10,- € person/night. Children under 6 are free. We provide free high chairs and cots. Out of low season Saturday is changeover day and min. stay 1 week. Exceptions can be made. We also offer winter long let rates for 800 € - 1.200 € per month, depending of dates and length of stay and we can offer special rates for last minutes bookings.

Flamenco lessons in the house, horse trekking or alpine trekking in the area and ski excursions to the ski resort of Sierra Nevada can be arranged. In general it will be a pleasure to us to offer all our experience we could gather in the 20 years we are living in the area to give you any kind of practical tips and advises about what-when-where-and how to do, like walks, hikes, nice car spins, beaches, restaurants, culture events, tickets booking, etc .We really want to give you the chance to dive in and to experience the authentic Andalusia.

The land is a certificated organic farm and lawful tourist-family business which is controlled by the Spanish tourist authority and guarantees all kind of demands on security, hygiene and quality. The price includes 10% VAT and an all inclusive household contents insurance. With our long experience with the holiday house and the continuous improvements we have been doing during all these years we want to make sure that our guests can experience the most interesting and amazing holiday ever and enjoy a completely unproblematic, specially relaxing, stress less and refreshing holiday. About Oliver Baun

I dropped into the Alpujarras by accident being on a journey all over Spain. This was happening in the mid 80's and it was at the same time as the famous book writer Chris Stewart arrived into the area. Years later he published his bestseller 'Driving over lemons' where he tells all these funny stories and amazing experiences he had to go across and in fact, I discovered the same kind of an authentic unspoiled paradise as he did. Obviously the south of Granada was in these days a bit different to what it is now. The area was very poor, not many cars but lots of donkeys, TV was just coming in and people actually 'lived' in the bars. There was no VAT tax yet and no highway hundreds of miles around. Granada was a day journey away and northern Europe a different planet. I was in heaven. Now I'm living this area for over 25 years, my children were born and grown up here and I love it every day even more. It's the Garden Eden, it's Paradise!

What makes this house unique

The holiday villa Cortijo el Potro is characterised by its generously sized interior, especially its large sitting room and two bathrooms, as well as its proximity to the village and warm welcome towards children. It is actually the very special child friendliness, child safety ambiente with many toys and games, which allows the whole family to enjoy a wonderful and relaxing holiday. At the large swimming pool beside the house (4m x 9m + a shallow area for small children) there's a water slide, a playground, a small soccer pitch with a goal and a giant tire swing.

Over the winter we offer our guests a wonderful Finnish wood sauna, either for a couple or for the whole family. For this reason the pool is open all year.

A beautiful peaceful place

Just a wonderful place to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings. The hosts are friendly and welcoming, the village is 10 minutes walk, and the house, pool, garden and view for me (and my 4yr old son) are perfect. We rebooked for this year as soon as we could.

Wonderfully relaxing and in the perfect location

This cortijo was such a relaxing place to stay.

The swimming pool was absolutely perfect for our 2 year old son with lovely wide steps going into it and a shallow section which he could happily paddle about in without us having to constantly keep hold of him. Even when he was freezing cold with lips turning blue he had to be bribed to leave it! There is also a nice garden area which allowed for games of football and we were able to access a tyre swing. The owner, Oliver, also very kindly provided our son with a little pedal bike whilst we were there.

The cortijo itself is comfortable with the nicest parts being the bedrooms and the wonderful roof terrace which leads from the main bedroom - the most stunning views all around and the most perfect place to have lunch or dinner! Make sure you go out in the evening as well when the stars are out - absolutely breathtaking!!

The location is also wonderful. We went for walks up into the mountains as well as taking the car into the mountain villages which was great. Again, the views are just spectacular. We had a day trip to Granada which was a beautiful city and fantastic for tapas. We also had trips to the beach - not many locations can offer you beach, mountain and city all within close proximity and in such a picturesque setting.

The only negative we encountered was the travel cot which we were supplied with and which had big holes in. Luckily our son was old enough not to get caught in them but it really wasn't fit for purpose. To be fair, we never actually mentioned it to Oliver whilst we were there and he may have replaced this by now. You also really have to love cats and dogs in order to stay here - we do and quite possibly, Gomez and the cats made our son's holiday! However, there are lots of cats and they can be quite persistent!

All in all, we had a wonderful time and would recommend this extremely relaxing getaway!

Der perfekte Rueckzugsort fuer den Winter. Das Haus liegt einen Kilometer entfernt von dem idyllischen Oertchen Orgiva, in Mitten eines wunderschoenen Tals der Sierra Nevada. Die Gegend bietet im Winter ein sehr mildes Klima. Die Tage sind meist sehr freundlich und sonnig, die Naechte manchmal frisch. Olivers Haus ist jedoch gut isoliert und der Kamin sorgt fuer eine gemuetliche, warme Atmosphere. Orgiva hat einige Supermaerkte, einen extrem guenstigen Obst- und Gemuesemarkt an Donnerstagen (1Euro/kg) und diverse gemuetliche Cafés. Die Gegend selbst ist extrem gut fuer Wanderungen und Fahrradtouren geeignet. Zudem ist das Mittelmeer gleich um die Ecke und die schneebedeckten Berge nur einen Katzensprung entfernt. Frisch gepresster Orangensaft mit Orangen direkt vom Baum und leckere Avokados aus dem Garten gehoeren zum Fruehstueck auf der Terrasse dazu. Wir hatten eine wunderbare Zeit und kommen gerne wieder!

Spanish Paradise

Oliver was a very gracious host. We felt welcome and were very pleased with our accommodations. The house was so warm and cozy, and plenty prepared for the winter. The weather was sunny and comfortable in the day, fresh in the night. The countryside was lush with citrus and olive trees covering the landscape. It was a beautiful, relaxing vacation. When we visit Spain again, we will stay here.

Die Beschreibung im Internet ist zutreffend. Das Haus ist sauber und gemütlich eingerichtet. Es bietet alles was man braucht. Der Grundriss ist sehr zweckmässig und grosszügig genug, um 2x2 Personen einen problemlosen Aufenthalt zu ermöglichen. Die Betten sind gut. Das Haus liegt in einem wunderschönen alten Kulturgarten bzw, -Landschaft. Man entspannt unter Orangen- und Olivenbäumen! Der Pool war sehr sauber. Ende Oktober waren wir abends froh über die gut funktionierende Heizung. Wir schätzten den herzlichen Kontakt mit den Vermietern sehr. Sie halfen uns zudem mit ihren kompetenten Auskünften unsere Wanderungen und Ausflüge schön zu gestalten (nochmals ganz herzlichen Dank!). Ein herrliches Wandergebiet, und: der Mulhacen ist einfach zu besteigen! Kultur in Schlagdistanz: Granada 1 Std., Cordoba (Mezquita)/Malaga je 2-3 Std., beides sehr zu empfehlen, das Meer 1 Std.. Was will man mehr?

Un nocheinmal vielen Dank für die gute Idee eines zweiten, grossen Panoramafensters im Wohnzimmer. Es ist bestell und wir werden es nächste Woche einbauen. Ihre Angaben zur "Schlagdistanz" fanden wir ganz besondrst nett - hier haben Sie gleich die Fotopausen mit einkalkuliert: Nach Granada kann es von Haustür zu Haustür schon eine ganze Stunde dauern, aber die Küste erreicht man eigentlich schon nach 30 min., in Malaga ist man in 1:30 Std. und auch nach Cordoba braucht man eigentlich reine Fahrtzeit nur 2:30 Std. Dieses Detail hat und trotzdem sehr gut gefallen und wir mussten auch etwas schmunzeln. Es ist eigentlich wirklich schön, dass Sie sich so viel Zeit genommen haben. "Entschleunigung" ist die grosse Hilfe Momente ganz besonderst bewusst und tief zu erleben und zu genissen. Wir würden uns freuen Sie im Frühling wieder als Gast bei uns empfangen zu dürfen (die Idee mit dem Motorrad ist klasse...). Alles Gute, Oliver B.

A Wonderful week in Southern Spain

This vacation home is amazing! My wife, I and our 9 year daughter stayed here and had a wonderfully relaxing time sitting by the pool, eating in, going out for dinner. The view of the mountains from the house is great and there are a number of places to sit - right outside the house, the second floor veranda - and enjoy your morning coffee or in the evening several cold beers or a glass of wine. Oliver is a great host and had many suggestions. You're close to the ocean and and a number of other great sights including the Alhambra. I totally recommend this home.

Orgiva is a lively Andalusia market village, picturesque situated in a large valley in the south of Granada, right under Europe’s clearest night sky, between the rugged and snow covert mountains and the Costa Tropical, surrounded by wild, green and well-balanced countryside, rivers and thousands of years old olive and productive orange groves. It has the steep inclinational, terraced slopes of the Alpujarras with its white shaped mountain villages to the north, the vineyard area La Contraviesa to the east and the completely virgin, wild and unspoiled hills of Sierra Lujar to the south. Alongside its numerous street cafes, bars, small shops, the weekly market and the indoor market, Orgiva also offers supermarkets, banks, a post office, and a cinema. In the area as in the high mountains are many marked hiking trails, which are passing by fresh mountain rivers and alpine spring lagoons , perfect to enjoy a refreshing break or a even a stimulating bath.

It takes 10 min. to walk over a country lane from the property to Órgiva.

Only 5 miles away is Lanjaron, the old traditional water and bath spa recently renovated with any kind of wellness oservices.

It is only 25 km to the Costa Tropical, where you still can find a few beautiful and peaceful bays with only a fish restaurant right on the beach.

It is 50 Km to the marvellous and indescribable beauty town of Granada and the magic and breathtaking Moorish- medieval palaces of the Alhambra

Other Activities: We'll arrange mobile massage at home by professional qualified holistic and sports massage therapist (also experienced in pregnancy massage) for 40 €/60 min. and 60 €/90 min. Also we arrange Flamenco courses, mountain climbing, snowboarding, Kite-surfing, dog-sledding, white-water rafting, canoeing

Our property is an organic farm producing its own organic virgin extra olive oil and almost all over the year our guests can find rip fruits ready to be taken right from the trees.

Golf: On of the attractive and noble advantages of Andalucia is that all places of interes and any kind of tourist and gastronomic attractions and infrastructures are well running whole over the year and there is no hibernation out of the high seasons and over the winter time.

To the next golf course it takes 25km driving down to the beach.

Ski: Experience a completely different skiing holiday: in southern Spain! Depending on your mood and the weather conditions, you can go skiing in the Sierra Nevada, lap up the sunshine under a palm tree at a street cafe on the Costa Tropical or enjoy a tour of the world famous Alhambra Palace in the fascinating and light-hearted student city of Granada Sierra Nevada (80 km from the house) is the most modern ski resort in Spain and has more sunny days than any other ski resort in Europe. A high certainty of snow, enjoying 76 km long, wide ski runs on altitudes between 3400m and 2000m, low prices and a really friendly environment make Sierra Nevada an ideal winter holiday destination. While back at your cosy holiday home there is a welcoming open fire and if you wish a Finnish wood sauna, which we will be happy to prepare for you by prior arrangement.   • Cots and extra beds we provide free on request with the complete bedding. All beds have new, good 2 meter spring mattresses and are fully equiped, not, as often common in southern Europe, with loose sheets with loose Acrylic blankets on top, but depending on the season thinner or thicker quilts with an appropriate bed coating. The large bedroom has direct a wide patio door access to the upper sun terrace. The house and its furnishings are very tasteful and authentic, all the furniture and ceiling beams are made of solid wood, the floors of clayey burned earthen slaps and the bathrooms tiled Arabic. Good quality of construction, modern insulation and thermo-glazed windows make a fresh winter evening by the open fireplace and a siesta on a hot summer afternoon in the pleasantly cool house to a pleasureful moment. On the subject homeowner lives in the same grounds: We as homeowners are aware that our guests not only trust about a certain amount of money, but they trust about something much more valuable; a part of their annual holidays. Concerning that, small, weekly work on the land, such as cleaning the pool and watering are the only moments in which I have to appear briefly in the garden. Otherwise, I take extraordinary regardless of the preferences of our guests, whether they are looking for some contact rather they prefer a private and peaceful holiday. In this regard, your holiday is guaranteed in good hands. On the subject sharing the pool area with other guests (July to mid-September): The whole property and its gardens are lush generous and the type of accommodation, the area and the booking process directly with us via the Internet reached guests with a trusting, open, flexible, natural and very easy going profile.
