Southwest Harbor Vacation Rental condo

When we arrived at the condo, we immediately felt welcome. The condo was very bright, the view was great, and even the ceiling fan had been turned on. The condo was spotless, the beds were extremely comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, and the pool was at the perfect temperature. Sometimes it was hard to leave the pool to do some sight seeing! Our son enjoyed the DVR (which we now must get!) and the internet access.

As for the location, Southwest Harbor is a 30 minute drive to Bar Harbor and the Park Loop Road, so be prepared to spend some time in the car. Other than getting tired of the same road to and from the condo, this was not a problem.

We did our grocery shopping at Ellsworth before getting onto Mount Desert Island, so we never needed to do any shopping at the local market. One thing to note is that we did not have cell phone coverage in Southwest Harbor (and several other places on the island).

We tried to rent bikes in Southwest Harbor, but they were all out. I would recommend if you are going during high tourist season to plan ahead. We took a sunset nature cruise aboard the Acadian out of Bar Harbor and saw several eagles, seals and a gorgeous sunset. The crew provided blankets when the temperature went down as the sun set. We were not prepared for the temperature drop as it was HOT when we left Bar Harbor.

We asked a neighbor for a good pizza place for takeout. Gott's was recommended, but we were very disappointed.

Late one night, after finishing the Park Loop Road in the dark, we stumbled upon a fantastic meal at the Lighthouse Inn and Restaurant in Seal Harbor.

I would definitely recommend this condo and hope to return again to do some things (biplane ride, Cadillac Mountain when it is not fogged in, taking bikes on the ferry to the Cranberry Islands) we didn't have time to do!
