This city has it all - from outdoor recreation, and a cosmopolitan outlook on art and music, to jazz, blues, and notably, some of the best restaurants in the country.
It certainly has the best farmers market!!
I am not there very much as I am traveling for work. This is my personal unit - the furnishings and amenities reflect that - this is not a standard 'rental'.
The city is alive, bustling and filled with energy. So many beautiful places to explore - the Oregon coast, the Columbia River Gorge, and Portland itself will keep you occupied for months.
The organic foods at the farmers markets rival those in Paris! REALLY!

LOCATION is fantastic. Ideally situated on the river - walkable to almost every site of interest in downtown and the Pearl.
Off the balcony, the river flows by with views of the sunrise and all of the excitement that living on the river brings.
Yet, the condo is right next to downtown. In a short walk or street car ride, you are in the midst of a wonderful, clean, safe and cosmopolitan city.
It is the best of all worlds. Nature, quiet, and no vying for parking - leave your car in a private, underground car and explore the city.
We stayed at Alyce's apartment for a month in the spring.
It's within a beautiful full-service apartment complex on the riverfront downtown. My husband has knee problems, can't walk distances and hills, and the location suited us perfectly - on the beautiful riverfront walk for me, 2 blocks from the streetcar for him, just a block or so to a lovely coffee cafe facing the river walk for both of us... One night we stood on the terrace and enjoyed the fireworks display which was the start of the Rose festival weeks.
We found the apartment just as described, and were delighted to find all the staples we needed to make our stay easier - no shopping for the basics necessary. Alyce provides spices, aluminum foil and plastic wrap, garbage bags, everything and more than what's in the listing. It made our lives so much easier. Shopping is a short streetcar ride to the Farmer's Market, Safeway, Whole Foods. With the wonderful Saturday Farmers Market, and it's fantastic produce, fish, smoked meats, cheeses, etc., we found ourselves cooking dinner in the apartment more than we had planned. And having lunch at the market. Our only issue was with the dining table, which while fine for breakfast, is wobbly and difficult for comfortable dinners.
We explored the neighborhoods, went to the opera, theater, museums, galleries, discovered clothing boutiques... all within a block or two of the streetcar. The Rose Test Garden and the Japanese Gardens turned out to be easier to get to than we thought, and well worth the short trip. Since this was a return trip for us, we only rented a car for a day and spent all our time in Portland. However, it was nice knowing that the garage was there for us.
I stayed here in 2010 and returned in 2014.
Well, the owner is spot on - this location is superb. I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the Riverfront - while still being in the midst of Portland activity. The condo faces the river - with no street in front of it - therefore no noise, cars, or traffic. I walked everywhere . . .downtown - the Pearl, Saturday market and farmers markets. If I had groceries from Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Safeway, (or a load of books from Powells) :):) I could simply get on the street car and cart it all to within a block of "home".
The condo is fully equipped - there were linens, nice glasses, a great mattress and all the staples I needed so I didn't have to spend extra for the basics.
Restaurants are all around - and the best of the best downtown as within walking distance - as are all the Portland concert venues.

I love Portland, and this is the only place we stay we we travel to Portland! This condo is in a perfect location! Right on the willamette river, near the best water front restaurants, by an awesome health club, walking distance to all the fun events the city has to offer. We lengthen our stay with each passing year! The condo itself is spotless and has an incredibley comfortable king bed. The views from the unit are amazing. If you are lucky enough to stay here over the Fourth of July you'll see a fireworks show that will blow your mind on the river IN FRONT of you! The owner is a doll to work with, and she has an underground parking space for your stay. You will not do better than this is Portland....just don't rent in when I want it!!!
My wife and I chose Portland to escape the Austin heat and to see a portion of the Pacific Northwest for our first time. We could not have chosen a better location and could not have hand-picked a better owner. We actually booked the property in April. Between then and the rental start date, Alyce, the owner, sent us numerous emails containing useful suggestions regarding things to do. We tried to do them all. The condo overlooks the Willamette River, and it's very relaxing to sit on the balcony for morning coffee or evening wine while watching the kayakers, joggers, and bicyclists. Very peaceful. The condo is ideal for a couple. It has all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay, yet it's not so fancy to cause discomfort. Think homey. The concierge staff is very helpful and friendly. Entry to the building is very secure. Same can be said for the elevators to the various floors. I could go on and on but I would be repeating what other reviewers have already said. In summary, we would definitely stay here again should the opportunity present itself.
This gorgeous home has everything you need. It is in a perfect location to enjoy every minute of the day whether you go out to enjoy the city or stay in to enjoy the view.
Public transportation is a step out the door. Downtown Portland is a couple blocks away. The building is in the middle of a river walk with restaurants, parks... Oh, and did I mention the view?!
The owner is simply wonderful to work with. The building concierge staff is awesome.
Alyce has created a wonderful, comfortable, stylish space that immediately felt like home for us during our 2 1/2 week holiday. The condo has a very central location, close to the bustle of Portland but set on the banks of the beautiful Willamette River, it actually feels like your miles away. The views across the river to Mount Hood, seen from the cool and comfortable balcony, are utterly breathtaking, especially at sunset. The condo is so comfortable and clean (an unfortunate rarity in my experience), simple, stylish decoration and with a well stocked larder, I simply cannot recommend this rental more highly. It is utterly perfect and my partner and I hope to stay there again later this year. p.s It must be worth it because I travel all the way from Scotland to stay there!
Stayed here August 2010 as we opened the door we were completely impressed. It was great to find everything so comfortable and tidy. The air conditioning was a blessing when temperatures passed 90 degrees, and the instructions made it easy to operate/find everything. The host was more than willing to accommodate every request, and was quick to reply to every email. The location was perfect - so close to the Saturday Market and Safeway, with a Starbucks just around the corner. After a day out in the sunshine coming back to the condo felt like coming home. Every night, we had dinner on the balcony while watching the passing boats, the view was incredible. Will stay again, very soon!
