Our location is simply the best!:
On a cobblestone street where you will often see donkeys as well as cars, we have an ideal location for exploring San Miguel. We are steps away from a wonderful restaurant (Ten Ten Pie) with outdoor seating and a block from the Jardin -- ground zero for San Miguel. You can walk to shops, the mercado (market), restaurants and the Benito Juarez Park. Taxis are also plentiful and cheap (less than $2.00 US for anywhere in town). And because we live here in the compound, we are available to help you with translation, insider things to do, arranging for transportation for day trips, or getting to and from the airport.
The weather in San Miguel is ideal year round:
Whether it is playing golf or swimming in the nearby hot springs, winter and summer are very moderate here in the high desert climate of central Mexico. The mornings are cool (nice for a fire in the fireplace) but the days are warm and dry. It is comfortable to be outside almost all of the days here and sitting on the terrace in the evening is possible most of the days -- even in winter. Some say that it is comparable to San Diego - without the ocean perhaps, but with more charm and definitely less expensive! Casita Rosa has it's own private terrace with a table and chairs for eating and a covered area for curling up with a good book (or, yes, a nap).
Safety and Security Issues in San Miguel:
Many people have concerns about drug violence and general safety issues in Mexico. So, here is our experience: we have not experienced drug violence here in San Miguel. This seems to be occurring closer to the border and to places where drugs are shipped. However, it is always wise to be concerned about safety wherever you go. Our casitas are behind walls and a locked door to the street that opens with an intercom system. Our front doors all have locks and we have had a safety audit by a security company here in San Miguel to ensure that we have created a safe and secure environment. We walk around town after dark here in Centro, but if we are in outlying neighborhoods when it is late, we take a cab. We do not carry a lot of money with us. These are simple, common sense precautions that are necessary wherever you go whether it is in the US or Mexico.
