Testimonial:: We just got back last Saturday from Maine. We’re still trying to adjust to life in South Florida again, but we keep dreaming of Maine and all its wonders. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and had a terrific time at the lake. We swam, fished, canoed, and picked wild blueberries and raspberries down at the edge of the water. In the evenings we would sit by the fire, roast marshmallows and then step outside to watch the night sky filled with thousands of stars. Though we’ve stayed in other houses in Maine, your house is in a wonderful location and so comfortable. Our favorite activity is to pack a lunch and to go sit on the rock ledge by the lake where we picnic, swim, canoe, and fish. Afterwards we finish our day with a scoop of ice cream at Round Pond. We also explored the different peninsulas, ate lobster rolls (repeatedly), and enjoyed every second of the cool weather. Damariscotta is a lovely little town as are so many in the surrounding area.

Beautiful Property in a Beautiful Location

  • 5 of 5
We recently returned from a wonderful stay at this home. Laurie was very accommodating as we booked our stay from Monday to Monday (which was much appreciated). If you haven't been to the mid-coast region before in the Fall, I strongly suggest it and if you are looking for place to stay, this home can't be beat. Just don't book the week that we want!!

The views overlooking McCurdy Pond were fantastic with the "rock" providing sufficient access for fishing with my young kinds and launching the canoe and my kayaks. The wooded path to the water was great with a well maintained path and the rear yard provided plenty of space for the 5 kids we had with us (all under 7) to play and roam.

When in town, be sure that you don't miss out on the local delicacy...no not lobster...Pemaquid oysters!! For my money, they are the best in the world. Freshly shucked on the back porch with some lemon, cocktail sauce, and a frosty beverage is pretty touch to beat.

The house itself was clean, well appointed and in good condition. The floor plan is open which was perfect for the 4 adults and 5 kids we had along. There are plenty of bathrooms and I have to say the beds are very comfortable. The only thing missing were a couple trash cans in the garage.

We had a yet another great trip to the Damariscotta region and made more great memories. We will certainly be back and would strongly recommend this home to anyone.

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5
We stayed for 2 weeks and could easily have stayed another 2 weeks.

The property and house was larger than expected and well-maintained. The water in the pond was somewhat cool (but, hey, this IS Maine!) but that did not stop some of us taking a daily dip!

The silence and solitude was truly welcomed. The birds calling at night and in early morning. The fog from the pond wafting up through the trees creating a visual feast.

Acadia National Park was 2&1/2 hours away and made for a very enjoyable day trip. Portland not as far in the other direction. Pemiquid Lighthouse and Boothbay Harbor only about 1/2 hour away.

Have recommended it to family planning a 2014 Maine Vacation.

A Perfect Week

  • 5 of 5
After spending 10 summer vacations on nearby Biscay Pond from '95 to '05, we were all anxious to return. Even though our daughters are in their twenties now, we were all hoping to enjoy similar experiences like we had in the past. This home did not disappoint. It was exactly as others have stated and as described in the listing. Laurie provided excellent customer service to me, especially with regard to a few minor issues. Marty, the local contact and handyman, was super. What a nice guy.
In addition to the places we regularly visited in the past (Round Pond Lobster Co-op, Round Top Ice Cream, downtown Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor, Sarah's in Wiscasset, and tennis at public courts at Lincoln Academy in nearby Newcastle), we also had some good pub food at the Newcastle Publick House. Additionally, we ventured north to Sweetgrass Winery in Union one afternoon and enjoyed sampling some very nice, different wine and spirits.
We have already recommended this vacation home and area to many friends and relatives since we returned home, and we're hoping we can also return (if and when our busy schedules permit).

Maine at its Best

  • 5 of 5
We spent 4 weeks in this home on McCurdy pond. After several summers with a house at the ocean, cold water for swimming and lots of traffic, this site was as private and tranquil as one could ever hope for. Swimming two or three times a day in a lake that we mostly had all to ourselves save for two loons that often swam a few feet away and sang to us at frequent intervals, especially at night. The house is comfortable and well furnished. The owner is very anxious to provide a first class experience and responded immediately to requests for improvement or suggestions as to missing items. For a Maine lake experience, you will find this rental outstanding.

Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5
Let me say that the pond is actually what we actually a lake, it's very large. The water was crystal clear and you can see several feet down. It was surprisingly warm, and very inviting. My daughter swam almost everyday.
The kitchen was well equipped with nice appliances, and most importantly a lobster pot, which was well used. The beds are very comfortable, and the entire house was spotless.
We traveled easily to Booth Bay, Rockland, Rockport, and Camden. They were all very short trips and worth visiting.
I would recommend this property to anyone who wants to visit Maine, and would be delighted to go again.

Home on McCurdy Pond with easy access

  • 5 of 5
I just returned from spending a week with five other artists at 66 McCurdy Pond. We went to the Damariscotta, ME area to do some “plein air” painting along the coast and at the Pemaquid Lighthouse. We also wanted to take two "day trips"… to Monhegan Island and the Rockland arera. The Hardy Boat Ferry in New Harbor, and the nearby access to Route1..made this very easy. This spacious house was ideally located for our daily painting excursions. It was also ideal for “housing” six women who each wanted their own “private” space in which to sleep. The Master Bedroom, the Queen Bedroom, and the Twin beds were comfortable. While the upstairs room with the futon, and the Den with new pullout sofabed work well for sleeping, we wish we had thought to pack a a couple of inflatable mattress pads to provide a bit more comfort for our older bones. The seating areas and dining areas are comfortable; there is a TV in the den suitable for the kids game consoles.
The pillows, towels and linens were fresh. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean. We enjoyed taking evening walks to the pond to hear the Loons calling at dusk. The Pond water is clear and clean and provided welcome swims after a hot day spent painting. Mobile phone service: ”Verizon” and Tracfone, worked ok, but those of us with ATT service were limited to “texting” on most of the Peninsula. There is a wireless internet router in the house…which requires a password, so you will want to ask for it when you book.

Owner's Response: Thrilled to receive great reviews! Thank you for taking the time.
We hope all of our guests have a splendid time and share pictures and memorable discoveries that we can share with future and returning guests.
I just came back with my children after almost two years of not being at the house. It was a very busy week of giving the house its much needed Spring Cleaning and purchasing new items for our guests (oven, coffee pot, toaster, towels, pillows, sofa, sleep sofa, mattresses, wireless router, ethernet cable, etc!).

My favorite excursions were to the following:

Boothbay - Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (gorgeous! and a great kids section)
Muscongus Lobster Pound - 28 Landing Road Round Pond 04564 (bring a tablecloth, BYOB!, a salad and lots of friends!)
Kayaking in Boothsbay - Tidal Transit - ask for Travis!
Rising Tide natural foods with a brick oven pizza truck outside - 323 Maine Street Damariscotta
Monkey C Monkey Do - Wiscasset - zip lines - Fun for the kids!
The Cupboard Cafe (you will need a GPS to get you there! address is on the refrigerator!).
The map on the refrigerator to do a tour of Round Pond (lighthouse, old school house, etc) is a lovely day trip.
...of course...the canoe out on McCurdy Pond...

We loved staying at the Maine House! Our 2 families of 4 were very comfortable. Rainy days afforded us relaxation with games and movies. This is a great place to unwind, especially at night, listening to the loon calls off the pond. The beach, lighthouses, whale watch and especially the Muscongus Bay Lobster Pound are a must! (The MBLP is also just up the street for a quick steamah and lobstah run for that midday craving!).

Ski: 'Have you ever previously rented a cottage or house only to arrive at the

location and say, 'what a horror show!' Well, it won't happen with this

rental. This lovely home has everything to offer - comfort, plenty of room,

clean!! - every amenity you would ever ask for when renting a home. We

brought along our two felines who had plenty of room to roam and plenty of

windows to view the outdoors. We brought along our kayaks which we covered

with a tarp and left down by the edge of the water. McCurdy Pond is

fabulous for kayaking - not boring, and calm enough to enjoy without fear of

tipping. Having washer and dryer available was definitely a plus. Being

able to put our vehicle in the garage was great given the fact that

unfortunately we had mostly rain for the two weeks we were there. You can

walk from the garage into the rear foyer - great for carrying in groceries

with the kitchen right around the corner. If you want peacefulness, this is

the place!
